Default What Will YOU Do With Your 400 Days?

"The clock is ticking and as of now we are keeping score."

I'm sure you've all seen The Clock on the front page of this site. Michael Bay is going to make Transformers 2, I'm going to finish the first draft of my novel.

I have a nine page outline for a thirty-six chapter long novel with six chapters written. My vow to myself-- and now, all of you--is that I will have a completed, revised, and suitable-for-presentation-to-an-agent draft of this book I've been kicking around since 2001(!) by the time Transformers 2 is completed. 400 days is more than enough. No more excuses. This is totally it.

What will you do with your next four hundred days?

Thats a damn good question. I mean as in thats a good challenge. Nothing helps motivate one to meet their goals then to set deadlines. And ones that you can't change via "Oh I'll just extend that 3 months cause I'm not really ready yet". Kudos for creating this challenge for yourself. And for sharing the idea.

In my next 400 days I have a lot of goals I am currently pursuing. None of which are minor tasks. Buy my first house, officially start my own business, and make sure that business is successful. That just sums up the challenge I put forth to myself. And are only a couple of the many goals I have to accomplish within 400 days.

Perhaps every hundred days we will need a "report card" thread to help keep things going.

    I love this idea.

I vow to have my first video game created.
Platform: PC (Keyboard or XBox controller)

I should have the know-how within 120 days, which is plenty of time to fully develop a game design document (overview of what will be in the game). Which will be great because I need one to show at GDC (Game Developers Conference) this year (Which is in September or October...)!

Oddly enough; I'm working on a novel as well, no outlines, I just let it free-flow for the most part(with school almost over, it should be pretty easy given that it's zombie-themed and I'm an avid lover of Zombie flicks)

Also...finding a new program for the new school year, hate the one I'm enrolled in now, just riding out the last two finals(one today, one tomorrow and that's it)

    I'll be going to:

.finish cowriting the script of the video game now in preproduction.
    .get approval of a vacation
    .book the international flight
.prepare to see TF2 in the U.S.

But I have a feeling I'll be busy with the ongoing project in Q2 2009.. No! I need a vacation in June!

Wow, that's actually a good chunk of time... You could even have sex and spawn a child -- now that's a production.

Meh? I'm working on being less rigid, less ruts -- out with the To Do Lists! Be spontaneous. 399 and hopefully no interruptions or days being cut short. Much to do, no dawdling allowed.

Any fool can get knocked up, I am creating ART! Besides, you have to keep feeding it and sheltering it for eighteen years and I just can't afford that... Maybe after I get the book deal?

And I love my To Do lists! I need them to live! No one can take my To Do lists away from me!

Don't hold your breath either. Time flies, and then well, shit happens...can't plan for that. But I like, and I really mean that, I like that you have a plan.

we got some nice goals. Mine are more immediate. before June 20 I want to Ink some of my pages, make a mini-comic, and pull a sketchbook together. After that, I need to send some work into a editor I met and see what he thinks. I may also send some more work into a children book publisher. After March of next year I'll be graduating (God willing), and I'll need to find a job. saying all that, now I really feel like the ax is coming down.

No, no, don't feel discouraged! You should feel excited! You can do it! Those are all wonderful goals and 400 days is a lot, as Beej pointed out.

Plans are good. I highly recommend plans. Even if it goes all to hell and one is forced to make a new plan. (Happens to me all the time!)

So there I was in the dentist's chair for 100 minutes (yup, I kept track) with Dr. Wong (thick accent) and his Russian assistant (another different, but thick accent) and I was having a Marathon Man moment, but after the Novocain kicked in (you know, if I were a witch I couldn't have twitched my nose) and then I thought of your 400 days, then a song came into my head thanks to your post... and it went like this:

"You sit around getting older, there's a joke here somewhere and it's on me
I'll shake this world off my shoulders, come on baby this laugh's on me

Stay on the streets of this town and they'll be carving you up alright
They say you gotta stay hungry, hey baby, I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action, I'm sick of sitting 'round here tryin' to write this book"

Ah yes. That takes me right back to college and a thwarted affair with a college professor who was WAY too nuts and old for me... but I digress.

It's catchy, I do like it, but that song is all about frustration and thwarted desire. Me, I'm all about chugging forward at the moment. I am, in all honestly, throwing down what I know to be crap these days. I am writing it all down, and getting myself through it. The sooner I create a first draft, in all its huge, ugly magnificence, the sooner I can begin the real writing process, which is the act of revision (or, y'know, editing ).

I'm just doing it. I'm not overthinking it, or worrying about it anymore.

Didn't say it made sense, just that's where the train went. (Marathon Man, 400 days, Bruce...) And now I am side tracked...looking up who is the Grand Marshall for the parade Saturday morning (yes I'll be there)...last year it was Mickey Rooney, this year Martin Landau. I'm bad. http://www.strawberryfestival.org/

    It's above that picture.

You may need to update your browser. Or just ask Nelson.

It doesn't work in Explorer, just FireFox and Safari. (My Mom can't see it, either.)

A little searching on the home page does a body good.

He does address it (well, the IE issue that is):

why did we decide to support firefox, safari and basically any mozilla-based browser and not microsoft internet explorer?
simple. the future in web design is moving away from html-based design and into css-centeric design. css (cascading style sheets) is a very optimized and more flexible way of designing web sites. templates could be formated and modified on the fly without the need for spending entire days changing the fonts, layout, and colors on every single page throughout the site.
microsoft has decided to form their own "css" standards that are non-compliant with the w3 standards and guidelines that are used by the world wide web consortium and designers. Even though internet explorer is the most used browser in the world, the browsers mentioned above perform better and are more secure for you the viewer.
so, if you see the design of this site a little out of place, please upgrade to any of the following browsers:
firefox: (mac osx, linux and windows)
    safari (mac osx and windows)
opera (mac osx, linux, and windows)
