Thumbs down Am I the only one who didn't like...

I spent over a year anxious to see this movie and when it came out I was there opening night, with my kids. Then, a few nights later with my kids and my friend and his kid. I saw it 3 times in theaters and about 3 more times on DVD. I loved the movie, but it was so different from the G1 plot that I was very disappointed.

Am I the only one who didn't like most of the changes made in the 2007 TF movie? Let me elaborate...

    1. The Allspark. This is a completely NEW concept to the TF. In the G1 series the focus was on getting Energon cubes to power the Decepticons thirst for domination. The allspark comes along as a live giving giant cube that transforms into a tiny little cube, and electrocutes any machinery into insane evil robots. Ridiculous.
    2. Choosing Alt modes on the fly. Teletraan 1 selected alt modes and actually spent TIME to BUILD/Repair the robots to become those alt modes. How it is that these robots can change their hardware while driving down the street, and then repaint and wash themselves? If you're shooting for realism, you missed.
    3. If the robots transformed into meteor/asteroid/spaceships to get to earth... then surely they could do that again and leave. The movie gives the impression that they're stranded.
    4. The Matrix of Leadership goes into their chests, not a cube.
    5. The Decepticons in the original series did not talk like monsters like the MB flick. It's so weak to make them less intelligent like that. The constant bickering between Megatron and Starscream was great and there is virtually no dialog in the new movie.
    6. Taking out Soundwave in the first movie was absent minded. Bring him back with a vocoder.
    7. Megatron is not Megatron without Frank. Nuf said on that one.
    8. The transformation sequences were shot too close to the action to get a good grip/feel of the transformations. Pan out next time.
    9. In the next movie, when there is a battle happening, don't forget about all the characters on the set - they vanished and reappeared for the ending. WTF?

Disclaimer: I only watched the G1, G2 and G3 cartoons. I only had the toys that were available in Canada. The comics and international stuff has not played a part, so if what I dislike about the TF 2007 movie is sourced from those places, I stand corrected.

I hope the sequel is better.

Pfff, G1 fanboy, for the love of god, get over it, this is a different story and concept! This is not base on G1 shit!

    1. Why would they have to travel all over the world and getting Energon instead of using one single source for them to dominate the world?
    2. I remember a while about the writer's interview about that Teleraan thing. Look for that interview for answers.
    3. No, they're not stranded. The Cube is their only hope to go home and rebuild their world, but the Cube was destroyed. So theres no point going back to Cybertron since their world is dead already.
    4. Sure it goes to the chest but you really missed what Optimus says. He'll put the Cube to his check to destroy it thus sacrifice himself to do so.
    5. The writer want to make the Decepticons more mysterious (for people new to TF). You'll see what they are in the sequel.
    6. The writer said they couldn't do him right, so I think its best to leave him aside or else if they did him wrong, fans will go mad.
    7. I like the new voice of Megatron more than Frank. Hugo fit to this. Nuff said.
    8. I don't know about that but you should watch the 2nd DVD.
    9. Who knows.

To sum it all, this is the new TF generation, not that G1 based crap.

Although I agree with some of what you say, I simply can't take you seriously when you say things like G3, Pan out, and you make your first (and maybe only) post here a bitchy thread starter.

The sequel will be better, but you'll complain about it no doubt.

You G1 fanboys are in denial or something. Just accept the fact that things change. You know how wierd it would have looked if they would have gone with the Blocky G1 designs? They might as well just make another animated movie.

So please keep these G1 fanboy comments like this to yourself.

Actually, that's not true. They could return to Cybertron if they wanted to but everyone they know on that planet is dead!!! Why would they want to return to that? They aren't stranded, they just prefer to live on a planet that still has living life forms.

The movie did not ruin the franchise. It's the constant complaining from the purists that ruins everything.

Yes, but only if you let them ruin it for you. I don't. Look, Lance, you're entitled to your opinion and I respect that. Just be prepared for people (like myself) who whole-heartedly do not agree with you.

I despise fanboys... be grateful you were given a good movie with freaking giant robots. I would've died for a movie like this when I was 12. ...and I saw the original animated Transformers movie in the theater on opening weekend back in the 80's.

Yep, you're the guy. I kid, I kid... and yes, the sequel WILL be better...

    1. It's called a MacGuffin, son. Learn it, love it, live it. I'm sure we'll get more complicated TF relationships in the next film now that the filmmakers' know (from our reactions) that the robots they made can emote properly.

::rereads #2 three times, fails to understand it:::

    2. Magic.

    3. And go where? Cybertron has been destroyed. Plus, Bee wants to stay with Sam.

    4. I have no idea what A Matrix of Leadership is but, technically, the Cube doesn't go into their chests either. Hence, Megatron being destroyed by the process.

    5. No, they sound like cartoons, which is worse, because it is not believable.

    6. It wasn't absent-minded. It was carefully weighed decision made by everyone involved. They didn't want to bring up the complicated issue of mass-shifting in the first film so they set Soundwave aside for TF2.

    7. No really, they sound like cartoons. I'm sure you had a nice childhood an' all but really, dude sounds like Muttley. Check it out.

    8. Oh man, you go shoot that scene and let me know how it works out for you. Personally, I have no idea...

    9. That happened with Barricade, yeah. I'll give you that.

I actually like the G1 A lot (woah really!), some of the communication bickering and plot advances the Descepticons had in the cartoon would have been great in the movie. I think some added dialog would have settled many hard core G1 fans (not all, but many).

But I do however really like the movie. It is very creative, the designs are top notch, and you do get a little bit of a feel for the Autobots and who they are.

If they are given more money in the sequel Im almost entirely sure they will include more face time with all the Transformers.

As for some of your complaints that I dont agree with...
Running around for Energon wouldn't work too well. In the cartoon they can travel from one point on the planet to another in 10 seconds... but in a movie they would expect to spend more time traveling. So if the Decepticons raided China while the Autobots were in USA, well, they got all the Energon they need before they can be stopped!

    Lastly.

This movie about the Cube... The decepticons only relaly went after it because they needed it to restore their planet. However now that the cube is destroyed, they are on earth... so what are they going to need? To survive! We will probably see some energy (Energon) stealing in the sequel.

What is this G3 you speak of? There was G1, G2, Battle Beasts, Machine Wars, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Animated and the Movie. In Japan there were other series as well which I don't concern my self with too much, though I know there were things like Masterforce, Beast Wars II, and Beast Wars Neo. G3 does not compute.

What do you mean by G1 crap/shit? G1 started it all for us. Without G1 we most likely would never have come to the point of having a movie. Looking back at the cartoons, yes its as if the acting and design isn't the best, but it was STILL Transformers. For the 80's it was AWESOME!

Hugo gave Megs a much darker side. More or less it sounded what Galvatron should have sounded like IMO. For the 80's interpretation of an evil robot Frank did a GREAT job. Would he have been a good pick for the movie? Thats debatable, and obviously theres no win.

Those are two things I didn't fully understand. All machines need some sort of energy to keep it going. Whether its oil, gear lube, electricity, whatever... So unless these nano particles that also helps with their transformation are also self sustaining, I couldn't figure out how they kept going and going and going (And no I don't think they had energizer batteries shoved up their @$$)

When it comes to the Cube, the Decepticons didn't want it to restore Cybertron, they wanted it to transforms earths' machines into a larger army of decepticons. That and for more power for themselves. Their home planet had been left in ruins, but it was not destroyed as some people had been left to believe.

On a side note.. Remember people, this is a forum and people are allowed to write their thoughts of Transformers and the movie. Please try not to attack others or "gang up" on someone just because they have a different point of view than yourself. Otherwise this forum will be just like other forums which is why people don't stick around.

    Sorry, when I wrote G1, G2, G3 I should have wrote Seasons 1 - 3.

Wow, when I wrote this I knew I would get backlash, I even thought that I would be banned or had my thread removed, but I did not expect so much child-like anger.

I'm sorry if you liked it so much and my expressing of my opinions hurt your feelings. Here in Canada we are still allowed to say how we feel, but perhaps I should have thought twice before posting freely on an American site.

My point of view is drawn from the original TF - the ORIGINAL. That means, anything that comes after the original has to live up to, or surpass the standards set by the original. Yes, it was a cartoon, but have you watched it lately? I recently picked up the first 2 seasons and watched them in order. The stories were good, the characters were in depth and unique and the only mistakes were mostly the limits of technology, budget or painter error - the plot was solid.

THIS is the NEW TF, I understand that, but I felt that there are holes in the plot (allspark, cybertron destroyed, characters MIA etc). I did not say it suckt - I believe I mentioned I watched it about 6 times.

What I liked about Frank's voice for Megatron is that it was realistic and unique - in this new interpretation ALL of the decepticons have red eyes and ridiculous voices. This tells me that very little effort was put into what these characters are all about. It is the typical, standard issue villain. Big, strong, scary, no personality nor intelligence. The original Megatron was a strategist, a warrior, a leader, driven and smart. Starscream was ambitious, driven, sneaky, deceptive and not very tactical.

In G1, every character had depth. In this new one, very few of them get any attention at all. That girl got more attention when she opened BB's hood and gave Sam a boner. That is so not necessary when you have a good story and good characters.

Let's ease up on the irrelevant pseudo-victim stuff. Last time I checked, you are still here, not banned, and so are your posts of disappointment. You're gonna be just fine. I actually thought your post was pretty tame. Compared to the crap that is out there, these were actually something I would call honest gripes. But you have to understand, you're coming here almost a good year since the movie has been out. You're gonna have people tired of hearing it, is all. (moved on) I can't speak for others and in what manner they respond in kind though. Not to mention, those gripes have been beaten to death by a select few. Does it make them any less valid? No. Are they in the minority here? Probably. I understand you are just now coming here to post these, all I'm saying is that all one can really do is move on, and hope that the sequel is more to your liking (or not). Not gonna try to change your mind about it. Being passive-aggressive about it isn't gonna help your case.

What I feel alot of people have trouble grasping is the concept that this was the first time this had ever been done before. Meaning TF's in live-action, aka some stuff just doesn't translate well aka some stuff is gonna be left out. Some of worked, some of it didn't. One cannot force this 2hr movie to be a complete slave to something that was haphazardly put together to move product to a certain age group 20-something years ago. How can I and others, who grew up with the G1 cartoon, had the toys, understand that, but some will not so much as acknowledge that concept?

Generation 1 didn't have depth, it had multiple time slots over a couple of years to hawk toys. This movie had the unenviable task of trying to introduce to a new audience, explain, revamp, wax nostalgic, hawk new toys, and appeal/entertain to fans and non-fans alike, all within 2hrs. There are gonna be holes. There are gonna be characters(and their traits) missed. (you can basically replace TF's in that opinion with any other beloved franchise) There are gonna be aspects of the movie that piss fans off, while pleasing others at the same time. What can you do? Can't help you with that one.

    Welcome to the club Lance

R-type pretty much summed things up......

don't turn this into Canada vs US.......not cool!

As an avid G1 fan.........I do love the new film. I feel the changes made suit modern times!

    Case in point..... James bond

Since good O'l JB is being retold.......would it be right to highlight a micro camera, or cell phone camera, a switchblade hidden in the boot as high tech spy gear?........

Come on now you know what I meant, or at least I hope you did. Megatron went to Earth many millions? of years before humans were there. No human machinery existed. He wanted the cube and I'm sorry for saying it wrong, to "restore the chaos" as in, "build more baddies" to fight the war on cybertron (yes, against the autobots!)

I'm not ganging up on you. You have some ideas I thought were correct, however some ideas I thought wouldn't have made sense. I was only giving my reasoning why I thought the way I did. As for the Energon, it seems more likely to be involved in the sequel since they have nothing else to fight for but to "survive".

Ive recently seen all of G1 (seasons 1 - 4, tho 4 only has a few episodes). And im almost to season 3 - But seasons 3 and 4 sucked so I wont be reliving that.

I agree they didnt have very in depth character development in this 2007 movie.

I agree that the all spark idea was kind of lame---but a movie repeated around stealing energy would turn away people who weren't fans of the cartoon like us.

But just because "everybody" doesn't agree with "everything" you say doesn't mean we are crying about it, jeeze. You are allowed to post your opinions. We are allowed to respect your ideas and submit our opinions regarding the subject matter you posted.

THIS ISN'T THE CARTOON GET OVER IT. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE, YOU ARE LIKE THE 1 MILLIONTH.

Well, I am glad that all the snarky junk is out of the way and we can all be normal people again.

In other news, last night I picked up some cool emblems for auto decoration - check it out:
