Should be interesting, but the video game to movie deal has gone wrong before.
Wasn't this Lord of the Flies in Atlantis?

who cares it will suck like most vid to movies do. give me a final fantasy movie that is actual fantasy and i am there
and when was the last time a competent director got a hold of a video game movie...never. I have good faith that this will atleast be visually translated well at the least. But I have more faith in it then that
Because video games and movies look similar but completely different form of expression.
Movies are beautifully condensed art in two hours. Video games are over-40-hours journey. It'd be hard to adapt.
Well...8 to 10 hour journeys. RPG's are the only ones that really climb over 30 hours. Generally any genre is going to be 8 to 10 hours.
Verbinski turned a theme park ride into a great series. No way he can mess this up. He spoke at DICE...the guy has a passion for gaming..or a new foudn one anyway. Either way...this will probably be the first good video game movie. Silet Hill is probably the best so far.

Also like Stage vs Film and why not many films that are based on stage shows do not go over well. People stick to the story too much. I liked Silent Hill it had any changes, but stayed very true. And with such a low budget they did a good job.
If they make a mega an flick though... I QUIT!

I thought Hitman was great. Best video game adaption IMHO. It tied into the games very well if you actually knew all about the games story and characters. The movie wasn't for everyone though.
Considering Bioshocks art direction and story it should transcend very well into a movie. Not sure about Gore. He fucked us with Pirates2&3.
At least for a video game based movie, it's not being directed by.....you know who.(Twilight zone music is heard).

What we really need are a Halo movie or trilogy, and a Metroid Prime movie or trilogy.
All Hail Megatron!
I'd enjoy seeing a "God of War" film; though it seems like the kind of thing that could really only work as CGI(especially and scenes based around Hades/Tartarus)

No matter what they put Halo as it will be a bad movie. Its story will be all fucked up because everything will have been seen before in other action or sci-fi movies. The main character is a boring and overused archetype in those type of movies. Everybody that has tried to write the script has said its been done better in other movies. It'll still be made because M$ wants to rake in the cash off the fanboys and they know people will see it even if it sucks. At least Bioshock has an upper hand in looks compared to the stale world of Halo's. If it was animated a lot of these things will be overlooked and translate to a better movie. When's the last time we had an American sci-fi animated movie? Halo or Metroid could be the first. Maybe then it might be good.
Bioshock is stoped due to budget restrictions. Universal doesn't trust in Gore Verbinski enough to give him $160M.
Aren't those $2700M of the Pirates trilogy enough guarantee?
Now take two (the owners of the rights) are studying if they move to another studio or make the film cheaper.
