Unless Will Ferrell is behind the wheel, trading snaps with Sacha Baron Cohen in a horrible French accent....I'm game.

I love Nascar. I hate some aspects of it, and I miss a lot of the older drivers that actually had character.
I had a break for a few years from watching it (I had a rear pro CTR TV and new it'd ruin it). I came back to start watching again and wondered what had happened:
- Mark Martin driving the #8 for DEI
- Dale Earnhardt Jr driving for Hendrick (ew)
- Toyota's on the field. I mean what the fuck? Where do they get the right? What actual part of stock car do they pretend to represent? Has Toyota ever made a rear wheel drive V8 muscle car?
- Dale Jarrett retiring after being forced to run in a Toyota. I would too. It nearly broke my heart. When I first started watching Nascar, Jarrett was like Captain America, driving a Ford Motor Parts sponsored Red White and Blu Ford. To end his career driving a Toyota is an absolute abomination
- What happened to DEI? They were like a premier team for a while there.
I am a Jr Fan too. I also like Greg Biffle (he was awesome in the Busch series, I've followed him since then), Mark Martin, Ryan Newman.
Part of this should be where in the US u live to be a good reference of the DEMO of the sport.

I've been a Nascar fan ever since the first race i went to back on Sunday July 11th, 1993 at NHIS. It was the first NHIS (Winston Cup) race at the track. Mark Martin was on the pole. Rusty Wallace Won the race, did a Polish Victory lap. Mark finished 2nd. Davey Allison finished 3rd. Unfortunately that would be Davey's last race as he died from a helicopter crash the next day in Talledega.
I will never forget that day. ever. It was hot as hell. And i got heat stroke from too much sun, heat, lack of water, and lack of food. It didn't help that the worse I felt, the less I wanted to eat or drink anything. Worst mistake. But I didn't know any better. I was only about 12. Within a week I knew every race team, sponsor, & driver. I soon became a Die Hard Robert Yates Racing fan rooting for Ernie Irvan who replaced Allison in the 28 Texaco Havoline Ford Thunderbird.
Ernie was on his way to winning the Cup the next year when he was nearly killed in (not too dissimilar from Dale Sr.) head on crash during practice at Michigan Speedway due to a cut tire.
The story comes full circle in 1996 when Ernie wins his first race since the Michigan accident at NHIS. Where I was there again, watching in the stands. His teammate Dale Jarrett, finished 2nd in the 88 Quality Care Ford Thunderbird.
Those where the golden years for me. I still watch races. but since I moved down to FL I have yet to go to one which i miss. But I don't think I'll ever experience the sport quite like i did back in the 90s. The teams have changed so much in just the last few years. And all my favs are starting to retire.
I'd guess Tony Stewart would be one of my top favs out there right now.
P.S. Toyota doesn't bother me entering NASCAR. I think it was a good thing. I also think its about time NASCAR updated the engine building rules. No manufacture builds carburetor production engines anymore. How does that represent Stock Cars? Time to go fuel injected. But I guess on the other side of it, thats part of the art of engine building.
Last time I checked they manufacture cars right here in America, so I don't see why not.
Personally, I don't like NASCAR, it's just watching a bunch of cars make left turns and seeing who can make the left turn before the other. Ooooo, woooow, exciting. You wanna make NASCAR exciting, have the drivers open the bottle of champain before the race!

I live in Brisbane, Australia. I'm a born Aussie.
I find the exact opposite. I can't stand Grand Prix as basically there is so little on track action (eg, passing leaders under green) it is not funny. And they are like part time drivers. In fact NASCAR Cup series takes the cake as far as miles raced per year per driver. Probably about 10x Grand Prix. And a lot of those drivers run the Busch series as well. I have a hell of a lot of respect for NASCAR drivers. There is absolutely no room for error on a 1.5 mile track at 195 mph with 42 other cars around you.
Aussie supercars are quite cool, but I never got into them as:
a) the field is too small
b) the races too short. We have one race per year that is 1000km (about 700 miles) and you know what? They need two drivers to run it per car. We have a 600 mile race with NASCAR, and a few of the drivers run the Indy 500 that weekend as well.
c) the races too infrequent

Thank you..quoted for the MFT!!!
and I dont care if Toyota builds cars here..I could go on about this and actually having this same issue talked about over on the Camaro board I am on..it just sucks really..but hey..
Toyota is "As American As Apple Pie"...
and no since Toyota is in NASCAR I am boycotting the shows and not buying anything. I used to love Tony Stuart..and now he runs Toyota..ban..sissy Waltrip..ban..Gibbs racing..ban ban ban..
Yeah, my dad has signed on to be some kind of tour guide or helper at NHIS. He MIGHT get to mingle with the drivers.![]()
