    Default Dtwo

Does anyone know when the IPO for Digital Domain is actually going to drop?

Did you read it all? Got your answers yet? Give you a headache?

Ewe, now DD gets to to play with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Sure didn't stop the mortgage mess w/them stinky loans in the CDOs and didn't prevent the pain the stockholders of Bear Stearns felt. Don't like that Act...worthless and just a lot of killing trees when the greedy folk will always find a way around it...but it made the politicians look better (to their constituents).

Well, so common stock price looked reasonable (sans that it'll drop quick/dilution and it's expected)... you know that has been happening with my stock in that little purple beverage, and mining company, too -- boo. Welcome to NYSE, et., al. *sniff, sniff*

You only lose money if you sell...

Or buy. The stock market is crap. (Normally I'd follow that generalization with "And I'm all about real estate!" because I am, more or less, but well... you know, obviously.) But this isn't about the stock market, it's about Dtwo. I have a very specific interest.

I will PM you later with my nefarious plan. I have to run to Dolores Park to talk to Gluck about the last story I turned in. TTFN!

So there I was reading along (another company's annual report) and learning all about Palladium and Rhodium and up comes this tid bit --Matsushita Electric Ind has developed a 100 Yr durable 4 layer Blu-ray Disc using Te-O-Pd film for inorganic recording layers (total capacity of 100GB with each layer having 25 GB storage capacity (!) For a nano-second I thought I understood it, but then it passed, and now I am back to being humble moi. (silly rabbit)

Just in case anyone other than me is curious about this:
Digital Domain may scrap public stock offering

Hmmm. I'm mixed and I'm not even involved. Like I posted above (S-O Act) it's a freaking pain.

I would think there would be lots of folks who would invest, case in point: Sidney Kimmel, 80-yr old, producer whose works have produced little by way of commercial success (media state it's because he hires people who are from indi fare BG, ergo, no big financial wins) and is scaling back his efforts in film making. Thinking he'd be a good partner or investor... just sold his one house in Florida for $81 million. He's been looking for a something to bring in $s not just acclaim which to date his films have rec'd plenty of the latter. (But I don't know that fella, could be he has an agenda alien to DD's, etc.) You'd think there would be more folks out there interested.

I'd like to see a little barter business going -- some people don't have $ but they have talent which can parlay into $ (e.g., actors, writers, etc.). Pay them scale for a service (makes the unions happy) plus stock -- so if the studio does well as a whole, so does the talent, etc. (not just limited to if the film does well).

    Just the peanut gallery thinking.

PS. Explain to me Red what "it's all about November means" -- cause I don't understand (don't torture me).

Someone nerdier than me will have more specific information but my understanding has been that the completely adapted, fully versioned BluRay combo player (it will work and "up" standard DVDs) hits the market in November (so I won't be buying one until then and have told everyone else I know to do the same).

Okay, I'm slow (i.e., dinosaur), but thanks, advice taken. It's stinking hot here btw -- was 104 at 2 PM and I was out in it helping my dad put up a gate and yeah, tis funny to have him barkin' orders at me and laughing cause it took me more than a nano second to work the rachet/socket. Will he let me just hire someone? Noooo, that'd be too easy, and then he'd get no entertainment value out it.

Eek! It's warm here, too, but not nearly *that* warm. We love the sunshine in San Francisco, though. It's just such a rare and precious thing, particularly in the micro-climate of my neighborhood (I am near the sea).

Heh, men and their ways. When my father visits I always have a to-do list ready for him. He gets bored VERY easily and wanders around my house looking for things to paint or repair or rebuild.... This is usually when I'm at work so I never get to help. I did help him rebuild the deck in his own yard, though. I *love* pouring concrete.

(Oh and P.S. by November, the price'll come way down on BR too, I'm pretty sure. Holidays 'n all.)

Yeah, that's how come we were doing this at 2 PM (heat of the day) cause I was around to help. Concrete, hmmm, can't say that's a fav, but I do luv the smell of fresh cut lumber (suddenly I've got Monty Python in my head...)

I'm just good with it. It's weird. This reminds me about the gouge in the floor in the back room at work, actually. I should have asked Manny if he wanted me to fix that. Ah well. (Today's my Friday. Three days off, woot!)

By the by... is it just me or are posts not appearing right away?

More reasons to stay private... okay doing an IPO means money, but *gag* so not worth the headaches (I'm like "mine, mine, mine, don't tell me what to do" mentality...but that's just me, and yeah it is a control thing, so?).

    http://www.ocregister.com/articles/a...oadcom-samueli#

Samueli, Henry Nicholas and 2 others named in SEC complaint, which alleges false accounting, lying to shareholders.

Henry Samueli resigned as chairman of Broadcom Corp., the company he built into a tech juggernaut, to fight a federal lawsuit alleging he conspired with other executives in a five-year scheme that involved false accounting and lying to shareholders...

The Securities and Exchange Commission sued Samueli, Broadcom co-founder Henry T. Nicholas and two others today for conspiring to backdate employee stock options in violation of federal corporate accounting rules.

And then there is this sort of thing which is just nasty bit of biz (i.e., for the really determined types on getting their way). You don't go to this length unless you got the stocks to vote it your way.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/innov...onNews&sp=true

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - InBev (INTB.BR: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) raised the pressure on reluctant bid target Anheuser-Busch Cos Inc (BUD.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) on Monday with a plan to replace the U.S. rival's board of directors that has rejected its $46.3 billion takeover offer.

Belgium-based InBev filed a preliminary proposal with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission that would lead to Anheuser shareholders voting on the board's future.

InBev, the world's second-largest brewer by volume, said it wanted to give shareholders a voice in its proposed $65 per share takeover of the Budweiser and Michelob brewer in the face of the board's unwillingness to talk.

I think they the reason for the posturing is the board heard from the buyers of the beer that they are not to happy that this "all american beer" is going to be owned by another foreign company..and the shareholders are doing what they can to make it look like they are standing up to them..even if they cant..

I think the U.S. goverment should take a look at the interests and say no..this ownership is staying in the U.S..We are just a country for sale now..to the highest bidder..and you know what is that really the most powerful country in the world when its own companies are not owned by americans??
