Default Platinum Dunes' FRIDAY THE 13TH-remake

    Is it a good idea?

I vote no. There's too many remakes produced these days. Besides, the Platinum Dunes' remakes has a tendency to be right on the line of being mediocre and decent/good.

Hell no. Don't remake it at all, I'm tired of this Hollywood need to remake and re imagine. Not a unique idea between the lot of them. I'll take sequels of that series till the cows come home but why go back?

Come on Mike... that idea is lame!!!!!

Surely a man of your talent can inject something entertaining into PD.

    Default Friday the 13th Re-make

Me being one of the guys that played "Jason" Part 2 and I might add the only Jason with a bag over his head. Would love to see a Friday the 13th again, only this time with a story about "Jason" himself. Not because I did it but I still think part 2 to be the best one with some kind of story line. Having a director like Michael Bay on the project would be a big plus. I would love to be a part of the project.

What amuses me is fanboys dissing Michael over remaking movies that they think are good movies to begin with.

    I didn't say I liked the originals.

I appreciate how PD gives new directors their big break... but I'd give it a billion times more respect if it did something original rather than remakes.

I would like to see a film based on the Jason of Part 3. It would be great seeing Richard Brooker play Jason again, since he was the first to wear the hockey mask

I am curious of the direction this film is going to take since it will feature Jason, and the original only showed him in the dream ending. I am interested in finding out.

I consider myself a fan of the old movies, especially part 1-4, and I don't think we need another Jason-flick. They were never great movies to begin with, it's not like when Rob Zombie pissed all over Halloween. Say what you want about Platinum Dunes but their remakes are actually pretty faithful to the original, so I predict this remake will go down the same way, mildly entertaining but pretty forgettable and kinda lacklustre.

I consider myself a fan of parts 1-4 and the other Paramount films, with the first four being the best. However, this remake or reimagining of the film cannot be any worse than Parts9-Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X and Freddy Vs. Jason. It is going to depend on who directs, who writes, and who plays Jason and how the director allows Jason to be played.

Doing a slasher film now a days is hard to do since the audience was ratcheted up to the gore they seen in Saw and Hostel and so forth. How do you make a "campy" yet at the time scary movie become relivant to the movie wather today?
Jason vs. Freddy was one way..but that was more of a tip of the hat to what made them great..not really scary.

This remake is going to be decent, I'm sure. It will be just like the other Platinum Dunes productions - pretty dark and gory. It won't be a campy comedy like Jason X was. But still, what's the point?

The point is that after the crap that was Jason X and Freddy Vs. Jason, there needs to be another film made to bring Jason back to what he is. I would hope that the gore won't be too over the top, because to me it is too distracting. That is why I did not care for the Hostel and Saw films.

Why remake the 1st movie when Jason wasn't even in it? They should just do another sequel.

But the gore in the first four are pretty over-the-top don't you think? Especially for it's time. The writers/producers said somewhere this will be a remake of pretty much the first three, so I hope they call it "Friday The 13th: The Origin of Jason Voorhees" or something like that, and not just "Friday The 13th". I also want Tom Savini back to do the make-up, and Richard Brooker (Jason in Part 3) to play Jason since he was easily the best in my opinion.

I would like to see Savini come back for the FX but he would need to use the Jason look for part 3 rather than part 4. That is the best look that in the films. I am wondering what title they will use for the film too-but I think that they will use "Friday the 13th". Richard Brooker should be back as Jason. He was the right size to play Jason. He took care of business. And for its time-there was gore that was over the top-but it was well timed. These days it is all over the film, and that to me, makes the film boring.

Hopefully, the return of comedic horror, as opposed to the torture porn genre we've been subjected to of late--yech!

    Thanks for the link, Beej!

Despite some posts I've posted in in this thread this is perhaps the only remake I'm looking forward to. The original series is pretty much fucked up since many years back anyway so you might as well do a remake. I hope they call it Friday The 13th: Jason Begins och Friday The 13th: Origins (silly names but anyway) considered it's not a really remake of Part 1 though.

You know, I'll tell you a story. When I was a youth/teen, I loved Wes Cravens films. I thought he was the fucking second coming and a legend in horror. ANOES, Shocker, Hills Have Eyes, People Under the Stairs. I could go on.

Now a funny thing happened. I got older. I have fond memories of his films. Of the films of his I saw when I was young. With the digital age, I bought a few and watched them on DVD. You know what? They make me cringe now. They are so fucking cheesy and cheap and frankly unscary it isn't funny. So I stopped watching his films. There are some of his films I haven't seen again since I was a teen, and I'm going to keep it that way. And that includes the original Hills Have Eyes.

In the other hand, I've seen the remakes, and the remakes of Hills Have Eyes owns the original. I mean if Craven gave a frank interview on the Hills Have Eyes he'd probably say "Yeah, the remake is the way I actually envisioned it, if I had A) the budget; B) effects were at that level of sophistication; and C) I actually had the fucking talent". But no, Craven didn't, and even if the funds and effects were available, he still fucking couldn't make the Aja remake, or even a film half as good. Instead when he gets to the modern era he makes a piece of shit like Cursed. Hell, not even dyed in the wool Craven Fans have anything good to say about that film.

Same goes for Friday the 13th. It is one of those dated "quaint" horror films. If it had never been released, and someone made it today AS IT IS it would be laughed at. It'd get a PG rating if not for the tits.

    So bring on the remake.

Are more stars known as Derek Mears, Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti, Danielle Panabaker, Willa Ford, Travis Van Winkle, Aaron Yoo, Nick Mennell, Nana Visitor und Jonathan Sadowski und Ryan Hansen?

I'm actually really looking forward to this one. It seems like everyone on board has a pretty good track record. The guy picked for Jason is just scary perfect

From everything I've read the entire production was "Cursed" from the word go. I don't think it was all Craven's fault by a long shot. You're right. The Hills Have Eyes Remake was great.
