Default Okay, I would like opinions on this....

and it may be a touchy subject for guys, so therefore avert your eyes.

This bitch (and I mean that with all sincerity) decides to attack me in one of my livejournal communities when I simply posted that I witnessed a woman breast-feeding her child in a public food court when I was in Jacksonville one weekend.

I posted about how that's a wee bit inappropriate, and she calls me (and I quote) "You've yet to give me a logical reason why she should hide to feed her child, and until you can, you're just going to come across as immature."

My logical reason: there's a time and a place to breast-feed your child and a food court in the middle of a crowded mall is not one of them.

    Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? Anyone?

    Bueller....Bueller....

God I'm pissed about this! Just a blatant attack like that....irks...me....to...no....fucking....end.... ...........

This is grey area, for sure Bee.

It's all about discretion, personally. I mean, yeah, someone's eventually gonna go the crude route and say that boobs are boobs, but I'm not trying to get a peek while a kid is going to town on one, if you know what I mean. (forgive my frank nature on that)

I don't have an issue of a woman doing that where she feels (per se'), but it's one of those "lack of common courtesy to others" type of thing that I do take issue with. If your gonna whip it out at least make me think (humor me) that you are considerate of others around that might feel that it is akward to catch that while eating their burger. Cover up if you don't wanna move, at least it shows you are trying. If that militant b**ch needs a reason, tell her that there shouldn't be one. I don't adjust my pants in front of her face, I politely do it somewhere else or do it where she can't see. Out of common f**king courtesy.

Don't get me started with parents in a restaurant that let junior scream while trying to have a nice quiet dinner.

    Thanks r-type.

Here's what I don't get. This chick attacks me for saying this and says that "I need to grow the fuck up." Excuse moi....but the woman could have gone out to her car to do this OR not even bring the baby to the mall.

And parents letting their kid(s) scream in a restaurant...ooohhh don't get me started there either. That pisses me off to no end.

I'm sorry you got attacked, Bee. It's a very controversial topic and people get quite belligerent. A couple of friends of mine who are Moms just went through a row with MySpace because the site had locked up some woman's pictures with her child for being "pornographic." (I do think that's a little overboard myself)

For me, it's all about being polite to others. I don't mind women breastfeeding in public, but she should make an effort to cover herself. No one should parade their anatomy in front of the whole world. One of the reasons I'm so tired of SF is that I'm tired of all the parades and the public stupidity, go figure. I'm getting so conservative in my old age! >shiver<

So yeah, I'm cool with it, even in a foodcourt. A woman shouldn't be crass with herself in *any* location.

Totally disagree with you, but I hardly think you are immature. At the very WORST you might call it an over bearing since of modesty. But I wouldn't even say that.

then again, you could say I am not modest enough. remember, I'm the guy that doesn't see a problem with going number 1 outside.

just remember, people that call names are either insecure in there beliefs or felt like they have been dissed themselves. I don't see how the latter could apply.

oh, and here is the defence that would make you not immature:

We live in a society where flashing your boobs is not appropriate. to say it's okay to breast feed in public, is to say it's okay if Britney Spears looses her top on her top on her latest video, and they don't censer it.

I think it's grey area, too.
It seems to vary from person to person or community to community.
I don't mind seeing women breast-feeding, but I myself have never done it in public space. Because I didn't want to show it.

So I don't think you're immature at all, and the woman shouldn't have attacked you.

It really depends on how "Hot" the chick is!!!

But seriously, babies are used to feeding at certain times, and when they're hungry, you can't deny them food! Not all mothers can stay at home, or even have time to breast feed in the car... As long as they're not hangin out, and it doesn't appear as if the "mom" is trying to make a statement ...I'm cool with it!

The girl got paid at least a 1000 dollars. I have to give her props cause there are a lot of women out here being sluts for free. They aren't getting anything out of sexing the whole neighborhood. At least this chick had some sort of plan in mind and wasn't just sleeping with nobodies to get ahead.

Umm.. well this can go a number of ways.. To some people it might be gross.. and make them not want to eat their food because the sight disgusts them.. (Just like how some mothers change their kids in public like that.. now THATS worse than breast feeding.. for goodness sake theres always a bathroom nearby they can change their kids in where its acceptable to do something like that)... to some people it might be a sexual thing to see a womans breast in public like that and the sucking and well.. I think you know what I'm trying to say there.. some guys like that sort of thing.. and then theres other people that think its acceptable for mothers to do that. Myself.. I don't believe its an acceptable thing. If they want to breast feed at home.. thats fine.. In public.. bring a bottle.. if they want them to be nursed on only breast milk.. buy a breast pump and pump it out for use at the food court... I don't think you are out of line for saying that theres a time and place for things like that. The person that commented at you perhaps needs to be given some advice. Of course theres no reason that their child can't be fed. But to be fed in that manner is a whole different thing. Its not being immature.. its being proper, and respectful to others.

And you are referring to the gay pride (fags) parade.. which I more or less call stupidity.

I think that the person should find a place other than a food court to feed her child.Although she has a right to do so anywhere. It should be deemed as "rude" because of the location.Almost every mall has some type of seating(benches)located throughout them somewhere.Other than the food court. She should consider those who do not want to eat looking up and away. That should be considered a private act between mother and child. If bonding and breast-feeding become a "natural" issue.Even in old times.Women did not do this at the dinner table.Did they?

I agree it does seem just wrong to whip it out in public, I nursed my first son and i would never of thought of nursing in public, thats what bottles are for. That would have been embarising for me so i do think it was rude to do that in public.

Don't get me wrong I am all for breasts, boobs, what ever you want to call them. Buuuut-

Yup I second and probably third that (since r-type said it too), but In modern society it's not the place in a mall to whip it out. I would highly double you would change you childs diaper in the middle of a food court.

How ever that goes under the same column as the woman who was arrested for walking shirtless after a basketball game (no bra) and the guys weren't. I forget the state, but women can now go topless.

IMO: Public is not the pace to breast feed no more than it is for a dude to whip it out and pee on the side of a building. Meaning just because it is convenient and accessible doesn't make it right.

breast feeding is a private thing. No reason to do it in public. There is no reason a woman needs to expose herself so people can walk by and see her breast while her child goes to town on it. Public restrooms exist for a reason.

So, I stated "it varies". I'm neither a proponent nor an opponent at this point. It's still touchy matter.
I know Bee lives in modern society therefore I said that it was wrong of the woman (in Livejournal community) to attack Bee.

And of course I highly discourage people from changing diaper in public. That's something else.

I think people get it twisted by looking at it this way: If not because of feeding exposing a breast would get a chick in trouble. (depending on the officer) So I guess IMHO that's where the line is.

Honestly, you may want to tell her to watch out because (and I say this with all sincerity and honesty) there may be a sexual predator out there waiting for someone who is open to doing things like this.

You never know who you're around and this somewhat entices them.

Just some thoughts...if they made sense.
    I'm a dog chasing cars. I don't know what I'd do if I caught one. I don't have plans. I just do things. I'm not a schemer.

I use a knife because guns are too quick. Otherwise, you can't savor all the emotions. You know who people are in their last moments.

I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger.
