Default Lobby for Director's Cut of PH and Armageddon

There's no real campaign for this of course, but I'd like to remind everyone to drop a friendly note to Buena Vista Home Video to beg them to release the Vista Edition of Pearl Harbor and the Criterion Director's Cut of Armageddon on Blu-Ray.

While I do have the Blu-Ray of PH, I prefer to watch the far superior Director's Cut on the Vista Edition DVD, which is quite superior to the release version (damn PG-13 requirement.)

and the Criterion Director's Cut of Armageddon on Blu-Ray.
i stated in another thread recently that i'm sure we'll get the Arm. Criterion, as the Rock blu-ray was not the bare-bones release i'd expcted, but was in fact a carbon copy of the Criterion. From this i can only assume the Arm. release will follow suit.

Negative on Armageddon. In another thread here, there was a link to an interview where Michael said the master was destroyed, and it has to be recut. So it'll be some way away. But I want it!

I'd dearly love the DC of Pearl Harbor too.

The negative being destroyed actually increases the chances we might get the Criterion cut; let's hope so.

As far as PH goes, I wonder what happened to the Vista Edition materials; Buena Vista doesn't care anymore as the Vista Edition web site is dead now and I suspect it was an idea that didn't sell enough extra copies of titles given the treatment to warrant the extra expense.

Makes me want to buy an extra copy from Amazon just as a backup…

How will it increase chances of the critereon cut? That was oibviously a low res master given it is non-anamorphic ntsc. The PAL directors cut is anamorphic and much better. I just hope Michael Bay gets enough time to kick off the restoration project...

¿Someone knows if a "region 2" version of the Pearl Harbor Director's cut can be found somewhere?

Not on HD. I have the UK Region B release.

I don't believe it is available anywhere unfortunately.

I thought Criterion has their own masters for their processing of material?

Remastering is not editing...more like reformatting and adjusting color for DVD. All films today are mastered in HD even for standard DVD releases. Notice a while back you started see a little box on the back that read "Mastered in High Definition." That just means they have an HD master to make the Bluray/HD "then" transfer when ready. Chances are that Armageddon was never mastered in HD to begin with so that would need to be done anyway.

The DVD format has little to do with the resolution.

It has more to do with the fact that at the time Disney never did anamorphic releases, period, and Armageddon was of course a Disney film.

The UK release was Anamorphic. I made my own transfer to NTSC. My version rocks! And yes it's the director's cut.

I'd prefer the extra res in the PAL anamorphic transfer. My ears honestly aren't good enough to pick the sound differences. Plus I grew up with PAL so am used to it.

I'm loving 24p with Blu Ray though...
