    Default Superman!...duh,duh duhduhda duh!!!

Well Superman Returns made alot of box office, money accorrding to the industry...With this said most people didn't like the movie however...
I am not one of those people; However.I have my reasons;Which I'll explaine...I Liked that the movie stuck to the original soundtrack;but on top of that they had the original voice of kalel(Marlon Brando).Though like reeves passing, away before release of the movie;both gave a admant concent to it's release...Much is mentioned in the bonus features. I as an individual grew up disliking Superman!
He always struck me as a rip off character of batman.../A Polore oppositte...They both fought for justice; but had their ways of achieving justice....
Superman accorrding to the movie; returns Adds, to a level of credibility...

ya it made a lot...but considering how much the movie cost to make after the 8 or so years of it being in development...they barely made any profit...if at all.

I liked the movie a lot....I was disappointed that there wasn't action with Superman fighting something. But it was a solid movie

well the new movie is gonna have alot of action this time...and as far as making a profit.the industry can't bullshit a bullshitter.brian pulled in a nice paycheck along with marvel and warner bros.
The only people who didn't really make a profit were the actors, grips, etc.
This is why they decided to make the man of steel/superman 2...I know what your gonna say agony, look at this and it's a article that says, the movie has been put on hold...well it's not.I just watched the movie last night and was like dude this is f-in bad ass.

Superman came before Batman and they're both DC characters but I forgive you. But yeah, Superman needed to solve more problems with his fists, golden age style... more car hurling...I'm all about car hurling... way more fun...

The actors and crew got a paycheck. They got paid...I don't understand the statement. The only people ever in need of making a profit is the studio and any investors. Anybody who pays for the movie. Actors and crew don't pay for any part of the movie.

As for Superman 2, if it gets made, it wont be any time soon...so don't hold your breath.

Chris Reeve could not possibly have revised the role of the new Superman because he was a paraplegic! He was in a wheelchair! Sheesh.

Brando couldn't have voiced an opinion about it because he was on his own island, away from people and a little out of it, if you know what I mean.

And ya know, if you never liked Superman as a child, then why did you watch Superman Returns? You could have simply not watched it. Did you watch the original movies with Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder? The first one was good, the second one was okay, but then it completely went off the deep end when they asked Richard Pryor to come on. WTF???

And he's sooo not a rip-off of Batman. Two completely different superheroes...err....heroes.

Batman=normal guy, but a millionaire (billionaire?) who fights crime. Has no Kryptonite, well, maybe women in general. I think Christopher Nolan is doing a good job revamping the entire franchise. It's darker and much more like the comics.

Superman=alien. Has supernatural powers thanks to the yellow sun. Cannot stand Kryptonite.

See? No comparing Superman and Batman.

And I thought Brandon Routh did a decent job as Superman/Clark Kent. He seriously pulled off the Reeve look.

And this movie (along with Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow) goes to prove one never dies in Hollywood! CGI can bring back anyone from the dead and make 'em look good at the same time. *wink*

Maybe I'm not reading into your post right because it seemed to me you're kind of rambling....so correct me if needed.

I second that. Also Superman is the First Superhero. Without him we wouldn't have all the Superheros he have today.

I liked Superman Returns. I know it wasn't really action packed but it was a HELL of a lot better than Superman 4: the Quest for Peace. Some fans Didn't like Brandon Routh and wanted to see Tom Welling as Superman but I thought Routh did a good job considering he had to live up to Reeve's performance as the man of steel. Besides who whould you rather see. Brandon Routh in updated suit with a really small "S" sheild, or Nicolas Cage in a black rubber suit with a silver "S" sheild that came off his chest and turned into two throwing blades?

Superman is hard to do for a 2 hour movie. But there has to be non stop action and the thing is Superman has no counterpart of power that they can use right now???
    Doomsday?

Hell I was thinking how bout a movie with Superman vs. Captain Marvel!! Think about it..

The JLU episode of Supes vs. CM was awsome..if they took that to the big level..it has enough to be a great movie.

If I remember correctly, they did try to use Doomsday in several Failed scripts (Hulk Hogan was Rumored to play the brute). Captain Marvel would be an great challange for the man of steel.

No counterpart? Never read Superman have you? Darkseid, Drega, Imperiex, Kaliback, Braniac, Parasite, Big Barda, Cyborg, Metalo, Mongul. I could go on, but I've made my point, if a movie with epic fights was to be made they have an almost endless characters who can stand up to Superman, hell, there are many above his level too.

Ok first off,the industry made plenty off superman.Hence the reason for the new movie and it is back on schedule I'm sure now that the strike is over.I'll look into it here shortly.

secondly bee,I know reeves was a parapalegic.I never suggested he repise his role.If you paid attention you will notice actors from the original movies are in the new movie making cameos. It woulda been nice to see him in a cameo as welltalking to kent or something. If I'm not mistaken brando was dead by the release as was reeves.

Thirdly bee,as far seeing the movie though I never liked the character as a kid.One I love movies, two I saw commercials and read about the movie before it's release and it sounded as well as looked kick ass.

As for watching the movies I saw them all.I honestly didn't like them as a kid except for the one with zod I think that was superman 2.After watching return I watched all the movies again and thought I don't know why I didn't like the movies as a kid.The only thing I could think of was that I was into comics and thought superman was a weak character.

as for calling supes a ripoff,of batman.you guys were right on he is definately not a ripoff of batman.

I agree Ive never thought of them in the same category. Batman isnt really a superhero, cos theres not all too much super about him. His human physical prowess and gadgets. he's like a dark crazy on speed James Bond haha (did I just say that? )

I dont care much for Superman however. Although did like the series sometimes.

Batman is Sam Spade on crack

Superman Returns would have been better if they had a different Lois. Her big ass five-head could stop a speeding bullet.

umm it made under 400mil worldwide, Superman is supposedly the "Greatest" and "Most Known" super hero of all time. this movie was an epic fail for a movie of this calibur. sure they ended up making profit(Alot of it with DVD'). but the movie was incredibly slow moving, Boring, and poorly acted out. the whole cast was very stale with an exception of James Marsden, and spacey had a few moments as well, but this shouldnt have been called Superman, it should have been called LOIS and clark.

not sure if i should blame the producers, brian singer, or Hollywood. This movie should have ripped from Batman and told the complete story of superman from the beginning since, this obviously wasn't for past superman fans, so why not catch a younger generation by telling the story from the beginning.

and Tom Welling should have been Clark!

yhea tom welling does a pretty good supes.I thought it was well acted and as for being slow it.at times it was I admit but I just watched it again last night I thought it was freakin awsome and it was telling a back story...as for introducing him to a new generation.for what we all know who superman is,and younger people know who he is through smallville.it's only got like seven seasons,it's apparrently watched alot by young people.I also liked the way singerpaid homage to the old films ending it the same way the old films ended superman lowering his right arm smiling then flying off into space.also keeping the o.g. soundtrack.

Oh yhea and bee When I started the thread it was kinda a ramble.I had just finnished watching the movie again, but alot of people didn't care for it so I Thought I would point out how I wasn't a fan as a kid but am now, some things I woulda like to see and some positive aspects of the movie.

and avalanch as for making money. agony x said it didn't make any but I was arguing the point it made quite a bit...sure not as much as say a movie that was as anticipated but I think most people who saw the film said it sucked.so hence not a big showing but it made enough and accorrding to the new script isn't gonna leave anyone calling it boring.

I luv ya rad, but dude... I didn't feel the Superman flick. I wanted to see something new. What was seen that we had not see in films like Spiderman and others. Even cgi wise. I wanted more screen time for Spacey too. The kid makes things a little odd and explains away the 1 night stand in the fortress of solitude. What does that tell kids that ever SUPERMAN doesn't use rubbers! (o.k. I had to say that).

But for real I wanna get some Doomsday action! I wanna see Supes throw his weight around.

How the hell are they going to explain all of those lil specks of asteroid lookin land around the coast...

That's what I liked about Returns. The original franchise sort of lost that train of thought. Singer brought it back.

as far as the one night stand thing.as he explained it as havving to find out if anyone oranything was left on his home planet, and as in real life unfortunately seperation of parents do happen.I thought he was a great role model rather than just leaving the family alone he sticks around,he even excepted the new guy after awhile. As for the cgi effects your nuts.I don't know if you saw this in the thaeteres or not,but him flying through the clouds and then harnessing the power of the sun was pretty cool looking along with the space shuttle scene.I mean he just a guy in a red cape what did you want him to do transform.lol.

As for the doomsday action expect apacolypse, brainiac in the form of an alien, and a creepy lookin bizzarro.from what I hear this one is gonna be full of action.and as for throwin his weight around there will be him practicaly destroying the earth, before all is said and done.

WOOT! Good Villans. The Cloud shots were great, there were just some spots I can think of off the top of my head that stood out. One of them is the bank top scene where it looked odd. Dunno what about it, but something just took me off the vibe of the Chris Reeves films. Even with the one night stand I can get with Superman's sleep over. Can't we say though that nothing happened? The effects were good, but I compare it to king kong where they looked good, but with the air plane and one thing that bugged the hell outta me (yea it's small and I love superman, buuuut) when Kent goes into the elevator to strip his suit he flys out of the elevator and out of the building... did he bust a hole in the roof of the elevator.. or the building. Yea I'll admit it's below me to go at something so small when I have some films that are favs with things like that.

I liked it, I just think for the grand re-entrance of Superman the film could have been more than just average. Fun, yea, but I was already comparing it to the first films I had seen like X-Men and Spider-Man (the first ones). I wanna get more outta the second one. And Spacey > Hackman sorry if that is a touchy subject for anyone. (Hell saying Weaving's name draws a reaction so I'm just gonna C.M.A.)

Thumbs up Re: Superman!...duh,duh duhduhda duh!!!

The problem I had with Superman is it did not go anywhere? It just stayed playing out the Lois and Clark thing. It was like they took all the previous Supes movies took out the parts where he battles as Superman and spliced them together to make a soap opera of Lois and Superman.
For the longest time I was waiting for the action to reall kick in.
Was it great? No but it was a nice restart to a great icon. Could it have been more and or cut up and done with more heroics? Sure.
I think Singer played it way to safe. He emulated the originals very nice and it fit. But as a jumping off point. Nahh not feeling it.

IF..IF there is a Superman after this he really has to have some punch to the story. Hell anything. Smallville had more action than that movie did.

and as far as Batman vs. Superman..Supeman was the original..the first..every other superhero has a direct line to Superman..he started the genre.
Batman has been the polar opposite of the man of steel. The dark brooding anti-hero to the boyscout that is Superman. DC has played this up to the highest degree when pitted against one another. Best story of the two is Millars Dark Knight Returns..just what Batman is and Superman is is done so well in that book.

Superman returns was good...but it didn't have enough in it to make it awesome. The bourne trilogy had more action in it, and kept me hooked for the entire trilogy. IMO, it's a prime example of how action movies should flow

Best story of the two is Millars Dark Knight Returns..just what Batman is and Superman is is done so well in that book.
oh yhea and spacey will be in the next one too, supposedly.well I must say I thought the movie was well made, though I must admit it was lacking some action. However with that being said I gotta say I thought the story was great and quite unexpected. Now mind you I saw it in the theater first day and just expected another superman movie, actually not really knowing what to expect.I tripped out after his arrival back lois had gotten married and had a son. and untill the boat scene never thought the kid was his...especially when the cryptonite scared him but didn't seem to effect him.I also beleive singer had planned on making more than one film so he wanted a continuation from the old films, and to show how superman had personal struggles that were things everyone deals with.speration and being knowledge of having a kid you didn't know about.but now that the back story is outta the way the next movie is said to be action packed, less story depth.

as for the dark knight your right on track/I'm still waiting for a match up in batman three.miller did a superb job on that comic.I have also conceded I was way off base on the comparison of the two.

Did anyone notice the batman superman symbol at the theaters in I am legend?

I must say...I did like Hackman's version of Lex Luthor....but Spacey's was a bit different. I guess more on the psychotic side.

I guess it's just like comparing Jack Nic's Joker to Heath Ledger's Joker. There's no comparing because they're acted differently, even though they're the same character. Jack Nic's Joker was more comic-bookey....where as Heath's Joker is more demented. (RIP Heath....)

Hackman's Luthor came across as more comicky...where as Spacey's Luthor came across much more...psychotic? Demented? Umm...darker I suppose.

Ya get where I'm coming from?

I Like Superman but he's just to much of a goody to shoe.I would like to see superman jacked up on ...............................some black kryptonite or red kryptonite.

There is nothing like seeing a good guy turn BADASS just for about 10 to 20 mins in a movie.
