Default FOX News pisses me off

Oh my god. How and why do people watch FOX News, it boggles my mind. This not only pisses me off as a person but as a gamer as well. But this also shows just how fucking retarded FOX News is.

So there is an incredible game out called Mass Effect, an M rated game. It's a sci-fi RPG epic where you can develop relationships through hours of character interactions. Well in the game you can develop a relationship with a woman and have sex with her. In a non interactive sex scene that barely shows anything. Nothing more then you would see in prime time TV or a PG-13 movie. It's literally 30 seconds in a 30+ hour game. Here's the clip for those who are curious with how 'graphic' this supposed scene is.

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=3E2RWSiNqUc

Well FOX News had a report about this and a "round table discussion" with so called 'experts' talking about how in this game "You'll see full digital nudity and the ability for players to engage in graphic sex."

Geoff Keighley is the only person out of 7 total people to stand up for this game. The other 6 including the host condemn this game. And let it be known that NONE of them have played this game. 2 of them admitted to never playing the game and i can guarantee you none of the others played it. They are going off sensationalized facts given to them by the FOX News network. Sure is "Fair and Balanced".

Here is a video of the actual news report:

    http://www.gametrailers.com/player/u...es/163925.html

EA the publisher of this game has issued a statement calling out FOX. Basically for "insulting" them. Here is most of their press release:

    ----------------------------------

"As the parent company of BioWare, the studio which created the game, EA would like you to set the record straight on a number of errors and misstatements which incorrectly characterize the story and character interactions in Mass Effect."

Your headline above the televised story read: "New videogame shows full digital nudity and sex."

Fact: Mass Effect does not include explicit or frontal nudity. Love scenes in non-interactive sequences include side and profile shots - a vantage frequently used in many prime-time television shows. It's also worth noting that the game requires players to develop complex relationships before characters can become intimate and players can chose to avoid the love scenes altogether.

FNC voice-over reporter says: "You'll see full digital nudity and the ability for players to engage in graphic sex."

Fact: Sex scenes in Mass Effect are not graphic. These scenes are very similar to sex sequences frequently seen on network television in prime time.

FNC reporter says: "Critics say Mass Effect is being marketed to kids and teenagers."

Fact: That is flat out false. Mass Effect and all related marketing has been reviewed by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and rated Mature - appropriate for players 17-years and older. ESRB routinely counsels retailers on requesting proof of age in selling M-rated titles and the system has been lauded by members of Congress and the Federal Trade Commission. In practical terms, the ratings work as well or better than those used for warning viewers about television content.

The resulting coverage was insulting to the men and women who spent years creating a game which is acclaimed by critics for its high creative standards. As video games continue to take audiences away from television, we expect to see more TV news stories warning parents about the corrupting influence of interactive entertainment. But this represents a new level of recklessness.

Do you watch the Fox Network? Do you watch Family Guy? Have you ever seen The OC? Do you think the sexual situations in Mass Effect are any more graphic than scenes routinely aired on those shows? Do you honestly believe that young people have more exposure to Mass Effect than to those prime time shows?

This isn't a legal threat; it's an appeal to your sense of fairness. We're asking FNC to correct the record on Mass Effect.

    Sincerely,
    Jeff Brown
    Vice President of Communications
    Electronic Arts, Inc.

    -------------------------------------

I mean this is the epitome of irresponsible journalism. Anybody who honestly watches FOX news is fucking retarded. It's a wonder they even still have a news network.

I watch FOX news more than any other, but get my main dose from Bill Mahr and CNN. FOX news is VERY conservative. I am not a person who labels someone like FOX does as liberal, left, right, but I like watching the channel. Some of their shit is just to conservative though. Times are changing, and if digital "sexuality" is bothersome then DONT PLAY THE GAME. This is the same network who claimed tha the Cloverfield POSTER was strictly to capitalize on 9-11. So while they are the more lesser of the evils on network news they still need to "get with the times". Great game too Agony!

OH, BTW it is sexy CGI... if ya go for that thing. Still though it's nothing to get a "stiffy" over, or get your panties in a bunch (@FOX).

They nit pick over stupid things. That's my biggest problem. They will take Anna Nicole and run with it, and run on like Bill O'Reiley about homos in San Francisco, but they harp on longer about dumb things like video games, or rap and effecting the youth, or things like that. It's really irritating. They do the best job, but it's not the job that should be done by the #1. There should be more of an attention paid to the rest of the country and not just the middle class "middle America" group. Not everyone is their definition of middle America.

Prime example is the 5% unemployment rate. The reason that rate is so low is because people HAVE to have jobs or they cannot make it in a world where the dollar is so damn worthless.

But seriously Agony, I understand with what you are trying to say. The need to hold them selves to a higher position being #1. Instead they stay to their base and pander to that group ignoring their very slogan... "Fair and Balanced".

They need to stick to their guns. That's how they got to #1 in the first place because they gave attention to the things others didn't, but the more they lean to a certain side the less credible they look... especially in a world that doesn't know what non partisan news is. They are the best choice (in my opinion) but we should all listen to what others have to say.

Cats, Dogs, Liberal, Gay, Straight, Muslim, Catholic, Atheiest, Emo, Prep, Teen, Elderly, Rich, or poor it doesn't matter... just pay people the respect of assuming they will not take what ever you have to say and swallow it like a tasteless pill. That's why I like Real Time, because Bill doesn't beat around the bush, if you are offended... turn the fucking channel. If you cannot understand the discussion then you have no right to vote in a society where you should understand more about a subject (like a candidate) whether you like their hair cut or not.

EDIT: not saying you don't have the right to vote, just that you should understand more about a subject before you start to criticize it and are only informed by media opinion... people are more like lemmings now than ever.

I don't care what they decide to make into news stories. My problem is the fact that in this news story, and in most news stories, they sensationalize to the 100th degree. In this news story they reported incorrect facts as truth. When everything they reported on was speculation, lies, and unfounded truths. There was almost zero journalism going on here. So much so that a publisher had to release a press statement about it. Something these publishers NEVER do. They can do news stories about gays, and video games, etc all they want. It's when they go about these stories with the utmost irresponsible journalism, thats what bugs me.

I'm confused if your (@FOX) is you saying that the news report is nothing for someone to get their panties in a bunch over. Because I sure hope not.

funny enough, one of the so-called "experts" they had on to discuss this was also there to promote one of her books. Check out her Amazon rating after she went on national TV and bashed something she never played and has no clue about.

    http://www.amazon.com/Cult-Perfectio...1199196&sr=1-2

As of my posting here there are 526 1-star ratings. And eye for an eye I suppose.

Author Faults a Game, and Gamers Flame Back

    A scene from Mass Effect.

    By SETH SCHIESEL
    Published: January 26, 2008

The Internet hath no fury like a gamer scorned.

That’s the lesson Fox News and a self-help author learned this week after a program on that channel featured a discussion of the sexual content of the hit video game Mass Effect.

Bound by global message boards, blogs, chat rooms and of course the games themselves, gamers are perhaps the single most intense subculture on the Internet — fiercely protective of their pastime and at ease with the byways of cyberspace.

So the game world has been ablaze with indignation since the Fox News program “The Live Desk With Martha MacCallum” said on Monday that Mass Effect, one of the most critically praised games of 2007, contains frontal nudity and explicit depictions of sexual activity. The assertions of virtual lasciviousness first appeared earlier this month among conservative bloggers incensed by brief YouTube clips excerpted from the 30- to 40-hour game.

Mass Effect, a science fiction game, includes a complicated romantic subplot that is no more risqué in its plot or graphic in its depiction than evening network television.

To exact their revenge, gamers have turned their vitriol on Cooper Lawrence, an author who appeared to mischaracterize the game when she said: “Here’s how they’re seeing women: They’re seeing them as these objects of desire, as these, you know, hot bodies. They don’t show women as being valued for anything other than their sexuality. And it’s a man in this game deciding how many women he wants to be with.”

In fact Mass Effect allows users to play as either a man or a woman, and the few suggestions of intimate contact occur in the context of a detailed interpersonal story line. Asked on the air by Geoff Keighley of Spike TV whether she had ever played the game, Ms. Lawrence laughed and said, “No.”

Irate gamers have flooded the page on Amazon.com selling Ms. Lawrence’s most recent book, “The Cult of Perfection: Making Peace With Your Inner Overachiever,” sending its user-generated rating into oblivion.

By Friday afternoon 412 of the book’s 472 user reviews were the lowest possible rating, one star. Another 48 ratings were for two stars. Only 12 of the ratings were for three stars or higher. In addition, 929 Amazon users had tagged the book with the keyword “ignorant.” Tied for second place with 744 tags were “garbage” and “hypocrisy,” while “hack” and “hypocrite” tied for fourth place with 710 votes. Gamers have also attacked the book on the Barnes & Noble Web site.

Many of the reviewers admit that they have not read Ms. Lawrence’s book.
As one Amazon user put it: “I know all about this book but have never fully read it. Why? Due to the overwhelming backlash, I have no choice but to agree with the 1 star ratings. The rumors are rampant that this book was poorly written and poorly researched. So without verifying the contents myself — I give it a 1 star. Good thing video games aren’t judged in this manner — whew!!!”

On Friday “The Cult of Perfection” was ranked the 346,106th best-selling book on Amazon. Mass Effect, by contrast, has been a hit, selling more than 1.6 million copies since November. An Amazon spokeswoman said the site would soon begin to remove reviews written by users who had clearly not read the book.

In an interview on Friday, Ms. Lawrence said that since the controversy over her remarks erupted she had watched someone play the game for about two and a half hours. “I recognize that I misspoke,” she said. “I really regret saying that, and now that I’ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it’s kind of a joke.

“Before the show I had asked somebody about what they had heard, and they had said it’s like pornography,” she added. “But it’s not like pornography. I’ve seen episodes of ‘Lost’ that are more sexually explicit.”
Electronic Arts, the giant publisher that owns Mass Effect, has asked Fox News for a correction. A Fox News spokesman would say only that Electronic Arts had been offered a chance to appear on the channel. An Electronic Arts spokesman said the company had not yet decided whether to accept the offer.

By telephone from Edmonton, Alberta, Ray Muzyka, the medical doctor who is chief executive of BioWare, the Electronic Arts studio that made Mass Effect, said: “We’re hurt. We believe in video games as an art form, and on behalf of the 120 people who poured their blood and tears into this game over three years, we’re just really hurt that someone would misrepresent the game without even playing it. All we can hope for is that people who actually play our games will see the truth.”

Many of you have seen the idiotic newscast that fox posted about Mass Effect. Well this did not come without a backlash.
Gamers bombarded the guest host who made these lies in her recent book covering the subject.
