Raiders of the Lost Ark IMAX Exclusive Re-release

First thing I noticed when I walked into work (at a movie theatre) the other day: print-out promos for Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark...! Since this was the first time I'd heard about it, I immediately questioned my manager about it. Because TDKR has a two month long IMAX spot all to itself before Resident Evil: Retribution opens on Sept 14th, Paramount seized the chance to fit Indy in before the Blu-ray comes out. I'm not sure if this is a U.S.A. only kind of thing, but I certainly hope international theatres will be graced with this re-release as well.

To commemorate the long-awaited Blu-ray release of Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures, Paramount is reportedly planning to re-release Steven Spielberg‘s all-time action classic Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX theaters from September 7 to 13. Spielberg himself worked on the film’s transition to 70mm while simultaneously remastering the 1981 hit for the high-definition home format.

ScreenCrush broke the news with a hat tip to Latino Review’s El Mayimbe.

The report states this hasn’t been officially announced yet but, it should be soon, and the press release will have a full list of theaters where you can purchase tickets. It also says the film will play in both full 70mm IMAX as well as digital “LieMAX” formats, though either will be sufficient as Spielberg obviously didn’t shoot the film in IMAX thirty plus years ago.

Spielberg spoke to the New York Times about the conversion, confirming the release:

For me, it’s always been the bigger the screen, the better. It’s the only marked contrast we have to the generations that are seeing our movies on phones and hand-held platforms. It’s a complete relief to be able to see a film that many people have just experienced on a palm-sized platform technology, suddenly hurled at that them on an Imax-sized screen.

The Blu-ray set hits shelves September 18 and some ticketing websites are already selling tickets so check your local IMAX

Apparently it is limited to AMC theaters. This means I will be making a road trip to New Orleans!

AMC is running an exclusive marathon of all 4 films (non-IMAX), while also showing Raiders in IMAX. It can't be limited to just AMC, since my theatre (Great Escape) already has tickets on sale.

All I knew was according to /FILM (http://www.slashfilm.com/raiders-of-...-imax-convert/ ) All they mention was AMC. So I had thought it was a limited release. I hadn't seen anything concerning it at the more local IMAX theatgers (Rave, http://www.ravemotionpictures.com/
) so I did a little digging at the site. Lo and behold I came across the add for it. I would have thought they would have ads for it on the first page. Now this means I don't have to drive 2 hours to see it.
