Default Gangster Squad to be delayed for reshoots of the theater scene

I'm not familiar with what the details on the scene are, but this seems like a stupid overreaction to me. Surely a month delay and maybe a few cuts would have sufficed. All they're doing is making any controversy even worse.

Saw that scene at the end of the trailer. It was short, but pretty brutal (couple of mafia guys literally executing folks in their seats) and you can't help but being reminded of the theater shooting in Aurora. That being said, I don't think it's right to reshoot entire scenes and basically validate the crazy Holmes.

But...these days studios are not taking any chances, so from a business standpoint I understand their decision to do some reshoots and delay the movie. On the surface it looks like they're overreacting a bit, but when you think about it it actually makes sense.

P.S. Steve Jablonsky was hired at the last minute to compose the music for the movie. It will be interesting to watch a gangster film with his score on it. Looking forward to it.

I just saw the trailer that contains the scene, and while I agree with you that it certainly is hard to watch with the Aurora shooting in mind, somehow I doubt it plays (or would have played I should say), as harshly as one would think. The movie looks very stylized.

I couldn't begin to imagine the trouble if Inglourious Basterds was set for release this year.

Link to the Gangster Squad trailer.

The scene that they are talking about is at the end of the trailer.

First I wanna express my condolences to all the people who were killed and injured in the Aurora shooting. I hope that all the injured people make a full recovery of their injuries.
That said, I think it's overreacting to re-shoot a scene of a movie just because a similar incident happened in the real life. I think postponing the movie to the January 11th release date would have sufficed. I don't think that millions of people around the world would have made the connection to the Aurora shooting in the beginning of January. I understand that all the people involved in the shooting could have been offended and got back all the bad memories from it, but if they are gonna start to re-shoot scenes just because similar things happen in the real life, what's next?
Are they gonna make things like school, office, cinema, fast food restaurant and you name it shootings taboo, forbidden in future movies?
Cause when you think of it, almost all kinds of real life shootings have been filmed and probably brings back bad memories to all those people who have been involved in them, but that's the thing with movies. It's a movie and it's not real. It's a chance for people to escape the real life for a couple of hours to see something that they hopefully think was a great experience.
I hope that the director makes a director's cut with the already shot scene and releases a Blu-ray that contains both the director's cut and the cinema version of the movie.

After seeing this, I completely agree with this scene being removed.

Seeing as this is the only Gangster Squad thread on here, I'll post this here.

I just found out that Steve Jablonsky is the composer for the film. Up until now I've had no interest at all in seeing this, but now I certainly do, just to hear Jablonsky's score.

If anyone goes off to see this, please tell us how the score is. If it isn't very good then I won't go, but if it is then I would consider going off to see it.
