Default San Diego Comic Con 2012

This year the Comic Con is from July 11 till July 15, just in two weeks time. Already most of the movie companies revealed their schedules and it looks really interesting. Here are the most anticipated events (at least for me):

    - first footage (maybe even teaser) for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.
    - first trailer for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel (unconfirmed).
    - first full trailer for The Hobbit (unconfirmed).
    - a presentation for Iron Man 3.
    - Hasbro presentation - you can never know about these. I believe they might tease us with something about TF4. Don't be surprised if we see the "fan made poster" again!
    - the Prometheus viral campaign is continuing even now and it points to an event at the Comic Con. Wonder what that will be.

Most of these events will happen on July 14 so watch out for them.

Latino Review has 2 very interesting rumors about Comic Con!

According to them at Comic Con Marvel will announce a second movie for 2014 and it will be:

    Guardians of the Galaxy

    guardians.jpg

    • - It will be announced as Marvel’s second 2014 movie at Comic Con
    • - Thanos is in it.
    • - It will “lead up to” The Avengers 2 in 2015.
    • - ”THE SCRIPT IS INCREDIBLE
    http://latino-review.com/2012/06/28/...ovie-revealed/

The second rumor is about a surprise presentation by Legendary pictures together with Pacific Rim. The presentation will be about:

    Godzilla

    Godzilla_2012_design-570x737.jpg

Not only is Legendary bringing the Lizard to comic con but get this, I hear the presentation is SICK! I’m not going to get into specific spoiler territory because then what’s the point of attending the panel, but take this one to the bank.
    http://latino-review.com/2012/06/29/...surprise-year/

Man I love Legendary. They really know how to pick their projects. They're the hottest production company in Hollywood right now and their taste of movies is suiting me perfectly. Just look at some of their movies:

Nolan's Batman trilogy, 300, Watchmen, Inception, Clash/Wrath of the Titans, The Hangover, Sucker Punch, Mass Effect, Jack the Giant Killer, Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, 300: Battle of Artemisia, The Seventh Son etc...

    Can't wait for July 14.

Plenty of interesting anniversaries and events at the Comic Con this year:

10th Anniversary - Firefly (one of my favorite TV series).
25th Anniversary - Masters of the Universe movie
    30th Anniversary - Blade Runner
    35th Anniversary - Judge Dredd
    50th Anniversary - Marvel Superheroes

Also there will be possible footage from Neill Blomkamp's Elysium.

    And on July 13:
Optimus Prime: Up Close and Personal— The incomparable Larry King, one of the most recognized broadcast interviewers in the world, goes one-on-one with voice actor Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime), a talent who is practically synonymous with Comic-Con itself. In this panel, "The King of Interviews" salutes the beloved Cullen and takes attendees through the actor's early days on the original 1984 animated TV series Transformers Generation One, the three box office smash Transformers movies, and his current work on The Hub TV network's Daytime Emmy Award-winning animated series Transformers Prime from Hasbro.

Great guide for the Comic Con if you have never attended it. There was a slight chance for me to be there but everything was against me.

First interesting news from the event.

Peter Jackson will present The Hobbit in 2D and 24 fps:

As we saw at CinemaCon earlier this year, with our 48 frames per second presentation, negative bloggers are the ones the mainstream press runs with and quotes from. I decided to screen the Hobbit reel at Comic-Con in 2-D and 24 frames per second, so the focus stays firmly with the content and not the technical stuff.
    First screening of Dredd:

All the comments and reactions are very very positive. Very hard R movie with great 3D and slow mo scenes as well as very good performances and dialogue. Can't wait for this one.

If you're fan of Grimm here is a nice recap of Season 1 before the promo of Season 2:

First 2 minutes of Dexter Season 7!

    And here's Sam Raimi's Oz:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9ZTP2k0DRc

A description of the teaser footage from Lone Ranger (from Collider):

Most of the trailer has Tom Wilkinson (who plays the film’s villain) providing narration about the importance of trains. He explains that because trains will be the fastest mode of transportation in the old west, and whoever controls them “controls space and time.” It’s unintentionally funny because, it’s, you know, trains. But the visual style is full of Verbinski’s indulgences, like a brief shot that goes into a saloon and there’s a prostitute swinging from a wooden crescent moon that’s suspended from the ceiling. There’s also a slo-mo shot of a bunch of white guys in around a table getting shot at. Hit the jump for more. Then there’s the big reveal of Tonto (Johnny Depp) and The Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer), and the shot is the first official image from the film. Then there’s a bunch of quick action shots including the Ranger drawing down on an unseen enemy, and Tonto clinging on to the bottom of a speeding train.

    Best parts from day 2.

Joss Whedon said 2 very interesting things:

I have not come to a decision on directing Avengers 2 yet. I am having too much fun with this [Firefly reunion] now.
    and

Question: Are you thinking of a Firefly reboot if the Science Channel special goes well?

    “Yes.” -Joss Whedon
“Opening sequence [of the Firefly reboot] is a conversation between Wash & Book”
Hope the second one is true.

One of the Marvel guys slipped the news that if you're an Ant Man fan you should visit Marvel's presentation tomorrow.

Game of Thrones recap of season 2 and the new cast for season 3 (released 3.31.2013):

I assume that's the Extremis suit. Looks odd, I'd reverse the colors: Red with white pattern things.

    Looks good though.

After screening the footage from Pacific Rim Guillermo del Toro tell the audience that there will be radio silence on the film till the end of the year. Damn!
Here is a brief description of the footage (from bleeding cool):

When we got to see the unique, one time only trailer, it opened with what appeared to be a parent and child walking along on snowy beach using a metal detector. It picks up something… something big and metal. A huge, stumbling mech – a Jaeger robot.

In subsequent scenes we saw the operators taking control of the Jaegers, two at a time. There were lots of shots of huge kaiju, the giant monsters that threaten life on earth in the world of Pacific Rim.
Idris ELba’s character was heard giving a pep talk to Jaeger pilots. Armageddon is going to get its ass kicked.
And here are the first reactions from Twitter:

    http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit.../news/?a=63823

    And more on the film:

They apparently designed some 40 kaiju and “did an American Idol on them, had a pageant… but the better kaiju are the ones that are in the film. And when you think you’ve seen a kaiju do its thing it does something else… there are some set pieces there that I think have never been seen on film.”

As for the Jaegers, Guillermo promises “rocket punches… amazing melee weapons, close contact weapons and some artillery. Expect obscene robot porn, robot on kaiju action.”
Another great news is that Guillermo and Ron Pearlman are now ready to start working on Hellboy 3!!! :borat

Any doubt has now gone out of the window. Ben Kingsley is playing The Mandarin in Iron Man 3.

He was revealed, in full costume, at the end of tonight’s Comic-Con promo footage. The first thing we saw were the rings, but the hair and the robe and the whole kit and caboodle were revealed as he sat back on his ornate chair.

    guardiansofthegalaxysdc.jpg

Producer Kevin Feige dubbed the Guardians of the Galaxy movie a "big space epic" that will introduce various Cosmic entities from the Marvel Comics Universe. Drax the Destroyer, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Nova names only a few characters, in addition to the grinner from Marvel's The Avengers mid-credits stinger; Thanos.

Have you heard the latest rumor?

Peter Jackson shot hours and hours of material and now there is a chance that we got 3 Hobbit movies instead of 2. There will be some stories that are not in the book but explained in other Tolkien works.

Peter Jackson has revealed in an interview with Omelet at Comic-Con 2012, which will record more scenes from The Hobbit next year.

The filmmaker said he did not know yet whether it will use this in an extended version of the movie or will create a third chapter, but is discussing the possibilities with Warner Bros.

And here is first look at Godzilla:

    And some teaser description:

We see huge black clouds, massive smoke, and slowly it clears away revealing a ruined city. There are hundreds of crashed cars and rubble — buildings are broken in half and people are crawling over the sideways ruins of buildings. Some buildings have had massive chunks torn out of the middle of them, like when a cartoon character runs through a wall.

We see the side of something huge, like a mountain. We only slowly realize it's actually a monster. There is something like lava running down the side of it. And then there are huge CLAWS. The monnster is laying on its side. There is a huge Godzilla scream! Like a massive trumpet sounding!

And then Godzilla is rampaging through the city, trashing buildings with its huge claw. Buildings collapse. THOOM. A giant arm swipes across the city and everything crashes. We see its massive spiky back and then the trademark face. The monster opens its mouth and SCREAMS. - io9.com

Last but not least Man of Steel

    Description from bleeding cool:

Surprisingly, the look of Zack Snyder‘s footage leans on the handheld, intimate look of something like a Bourne movie. Shots tended to focus on details, the camera operator tended to walk behind characters, or hold the shot loose. Snyder has tended towards a very different look before, so I wasn’t expecting this at all.

But beyond the look, what did today’s trailer reveal?
We saw several shots of a young Clark Kent. As a very young kid, he is seen playing outside of the Kent’s house, wearing a cape, running about and posing. As a teenager he’s seen saving a school bus of kids after it comes off a bridge and plunges into water.
I managed to get down most of the voice ver heard in the trailer. Here it is.
Jor-El asks “What if a child dreamed of beaming something other than what society had intended? What if a child dreamed of becoming something greater.”
An unknown woman says “My son was in the bus. He saw what Clark did” as we see footage of the school bus accident and Clark saving them.
A man say “People are afraid of what they don’t understand.” I think that was Jonathan Kent, and this next snippet definitely was. As Jonathan Kent unveils the craft that brought Kal-El to earth he says “It’s not from this world, Clark. And neither are you.”
A bearded Clark says “I have so many questions.” Clark meets his actual biological dad as an adult, which suggests that either Jor-El has survived, or when he appear to Clark in the fortress of solitude (or, I guess, wherever) he seems to be fully tangible.
Jo-El talks about the choice Clark has to make about who he’s going to be. Whoever [you'll be] Clark, good character or bad, it’s going to change the world.
Some shots showed Superman on fire. There’s a shot of him flying, catching somebody falling. We see him in cuffs, being led along by the military. He’s seen kissing Amy Adams as Lois Lane, while in his Clark guise, I believe.
We get to see Clark arrive at work at the Daily Planet, apparently just tucking something away in his bag, pulling out his glasses and slipping them on.
Snyder continued to deny the involvement of Zod in the film, to a comical extent even, but we see him in the trailer footage, just for a brief moment.
The teaser will be attached to The Dark Knight Rises so we have to wait another 5 days.
