Default Something Broke - Another movie I directed

    Hiho everyone,

so, I finally got around to properly upload my third live-action movie, called "Something Broke", which I finished working on about 1 month ago, maybe even more. It is based on the song "Something Broke" by the awesome independent musician "TarbyRocks" and has a full length of 33:13 minutes.

This is the first time that I got to realize a live-action movie that I really really wanted to do. I had the concept for this movie stuck in my head for several months before I finally got around to make it. At first I wanted it to be an animated movie, which would have made alot more sense considering the content of the song, however, im happy that I got around to do it in live-action instead.

While this was again a movie made as a school project, it far exceeded that, making it the biggest and most expensive movie our school had seen yet. Personally, im torn about the final product. While I really like certain scenes, the limitations that come with a school project still show: The lack of a proper casting, which I think hurts this movie the most. Additionally to that, we were very limited when it came to the filming crew.

Little warning: This movie is supposed to be evil. While not having alot of blood or anything, this movie is meant to be disturbing and discomforting. If it actually is that remains to be seen, but I suggest unless you are like atleast 14 or 16 or something, you probably should not watch it.

Im really hoping for some feedback.

Do i hear à little Transformers in there? ;D
Ok i watched the first 18min. and i haven't seen any action yet but i'm still counting on it i'll give you some feedback for the first half and please don't be offended by my feedback it's only from my point of view i don't know if others agree with me but here goes..

    - Nice costumes those two actors got looks good.
    - I couldn't understand what they were saying would have been nice if there were subtitles in English.
    - The first scene i would have done somewhere later on the day where it's more dark, having this scene in the middle of the day made me think where all the other co-workers/people where in that building..? And a night scene for this movie would have looked better IMO.
    - i noticed the sound.. there wasn't much background sound or even background music or sound of the actors to accentuate what they are doing or whatever.
    - The room looks good but it's à bit to big and you can hear how large it is which i didn't like, and sometimes i couldn't hear actors speak, they should have talked louder and more clear so the sound editor could erase that largeness of the room..
    - i would have disconnected a few lamps at the desks so that the room wasn't all lighted by that ugly light and you could have used a bit more of your own light or the desk lamps which gives the scene it's own personal atmosphere and your own personal touch, so the lichting wasn't all great.
    - You did a lot of low angle shots which is nice with some scenes but not all. You went from low, low, low to high angle which bothered me a bit.
Plus these low angle shots weren't very flattering for the bigger lady, in fact it only made her bigger and look like a giant from such a low angle.
    - I thought the guy actor could have shaved à little to fit his role à bit more it looked like he came right from the ghetto or something doesnt fit his style in the movie with the costume.
    - If i were you i would have watched CSI à bit more with the lab research scenes and drops on the knife and shirt, it was à bit weird to do it in that same room where they did the paperwork and lab work.
You could have searched for à chemical or lab school to work with to create that scene there and let REAL lab people to their work for you, looks so much better on film.
Or you could have used à few tricks of your own like spray water over it take the knife and sprinkled it with lemon juice and then used the blacklight on it or something looks way better.
    - i believe there were some chemical or nuclear issues but wearing that mask looked cool but was à bit weird to put on and off again while that same dangerous package was lying right next to him.
    - was hoping for a more dark atmosphere after your introduction on here before i started watching, to much light i think and wrong kind of light.
    - With the sound of the actors talking at the desks there was more sound bouncing off i think, i might have experimented à bit with the boom stick to see which angle sounds better from low or high angle.

Sorry, but your feedback is not really usable seeing how it is based only on the first of half of the film and you didnt activate subtitles. But thx for watching and atleast I can use the technical criticism. And btw, there are english subtitles. If they dont show up, you need to press the little "CC" button.

The second half was definitely better with action but i see what you mean the actors.. she wasn't really running for her life at all and those soft thuds would not make that door go open.. was pretty lame of the actors indeed.

You can forget technical things but acting is something that has to be done right.

    It wasn't bad i give it a 7.5/10

Dont ask for feedback, if you dont want to except criticism.
The film is really nice for school project. Witht the casting, even if it is voluntary (I guess it is people who enjoyed doing it) feel free to ask them to do it in another way, feel free to direct them. Nice camera work though!
There are many many small mistakes in it, which you either are interested to learn from or not.
Did you btw coem up with the story or was it suggested by the song?

And most importantly, its really a big thing that you started it, made it and finished it! We all have to start somewhere. Is it a hobby or do you want to study further in film?

Thats the problem, the actors didnt do it voluntary, really. They needed to do it to get a got grade, neither of them really acted before, exept for the guy. However, I have to say, its cool that they made it through this project with me and didnt just give up.

To your second question: Both, really. The ending is extremly similar to the song, however, everything else I mostly came up myself while orientating myself towards the song as good as possible. The point behind this movie really was for me to make that song into a live-action movie as good as possible.

And yes, I want to study film

    Thx for watching!
