I did and I'm looking forward to what he's gonna do. Hard to say whether he's gonna carry over this style to Robo, but it reminded me of a stateside director's (David Ayer) recent stuff: Harsh Times, and Street Kings. Looks like Padilha's got the gritty-style down pat. Very promising.
But I have to be honest, with Hollywood in full Verhoeven remake-mode it seems, until I see these new ones, I'll continue to have a real hard time divorcing the properties (and by default, the idea of these remakes) from what made them so enjoyable for me, and it wasn't the action. Which (with what little I've seen of 2012 Recall), they're already showing to be emphasizing. No telling yet with Robo, or Starship Troopers.
tl;dr: Padilha has skills, still proceeding with caution.
