I applaud the design. But it looks highly breakable.

That's what i was thinking myself. add the fact that it has a customized processor it's extremely expensive. i am not sure how it stacks up against other macbooks as far as memory and speed

I was checking out the guided tour on the Mac website and I get the feeling it's probably geared towards the business world, where the less gadgetry you have to carry around the better.

I don't know about that. I just read it doesn't come with a dvd drive. you have to actually buy a separate drive. Apple seems like it's starting to switch roles with microsoft. pretty soon they will be offering 5 different versions of their OS also

You don't think a cd writer or dvd writer would be important to them? Granted you have flash drive and what not but suppose you have to send a hard copy to someone.

Oh and i am about to switch over to a mac. most likely i will be getting a laptop. any suggestions? keep in mind i'll be using it for illustrator and photoshop and stuff like maya and what not

Oops you're right. But can't it connect wirelessly with the wireless drive thing?

still reading. so far it really doesn't seem practical for anyone unless you have the money to burn.

I have a MacBook(black) with Illustrator CS3 and I'm really happy with it. But I would say you need the MacBook Pro, since you plan on using Maya.

Even still, it's a step forward with certain things. Like concept cars, it's implementing innovations that are gonna trickle down to the regular products eventually. (like that slick trackpad, etc.)

Intel Core 2 Duo in the ultra thin body.. sounds not too bad to bring along on a trip.
But battery replacements looks a little bit bothersome.

personally, I would rather see mac come out with one of those drop resistant and spill resistant laptops. you know, the kind people bring to job sits.

3k Dollars, and you pay by the pound. Sounds good, but getting a more custom job would be better. But sometime form wins over function. But those who can benefit from it will do so, those that won't will just not bother.

Lap tops are looking to be more like the future of Computing, they are still a year or so behind PCs are far as function and upgrade ability. The day I get a Quadcore X in a laptop I'll be one happy camper!

It depends on who you talk to.

I am currently working on a Dell laptop and love it (except it didn't come with an internal wireless antenna....which means I have to resort to a USB adapter and the internal card costs a hundred bucks because it's not PCMCIA, but an EXPRESSCARD ADAPTER, which Dell manufactured BEFORE they hit the damn market, but I digress).

My brother got a dell desktop that had a bad hard drive. Well, my dad calls Dell, while it's still under warranty, and they told him that we'd have to pay shipping for it, even while it's still under warranty. My dad literally threatened them....and they sent it over, when we sure as hell could have picked it up ourselves with us being 15 minutes from the damn plant.

Anywhoos, no more problems with that Dell. Then my brother got a new Dell laptop, pretty one for his birthday. Spent a lot of moolah on it. Two days out of the box, he puts a pen on the keyboard and shuts the screen and cracks it. Not a pretty site when he saw that.

Anywhoos, he called Dell, they gave him an estimate....around $500. Not bad, he could handle it. Then, they charged him twice for the repair. Took about a year to get that straightened out, along with my mom threatening legal action on them (again.)

Then, earlier this year while he was in France, they recalled his battery. My mom had to ship that to France for $30 because they refused to ship to France.

Anywhoos, my next notebook shall be a Mac...when they go down. I'm used to working on a Mac at work.....and I get confused when I come home to a PC. Go figger.
    I'm a dog chasing cars. I don't know what I'd do if I caught one. I don't have plans. I just do things. I'm not a schemer.

I have a Dell laptop as well. The only gripe I have with was the battery. It wasn't one that was recalled, but it stopped holding a charge so I had to get a new one.

Besides that I have no problems with mine, but I don't think of Dell when I think of graphics(I know others will dispute that, that's fine). Mine is basically relegated office/business software stuff.
