    Default Pearl Harbor commentary

Remember that ultimate edition 4 disc Pearl Harbor DVD? Well it wasn't so ultimate if you live in the UK. We missed the director's commentary, the director's cut and it was in shitty plastic boxes. I still got mugged and bought it back in '02 though (dayum! 2002!!!).

I'm just gutted that I've never been able to listen to the commentary just because I live in the UK. Seriously what was the reason for that??? Anyway, is there any way of obtaining it? Does any have a link? Would anybody be kind enough to send me an mp3 so I can listen alongside the film. I'll pay you in... ummm.. plectrums!
I've always defended Michael Bay against attacks that his films are full of stupid explosions, girls in underwear and mindless characters... but then he made Transformers 2 and I conceded...

I really wish I could help, but I'm simply not good with the whole mp3 thing.

I do remember that one S4TE member (can't recall his nickname though) was able to extract the "The Island" commentary as an mp3 file. Maybe if he's reading this he'll post something that'll help you out.

That would be so cool. I love the Island and I really enjoy listening to Michael's commentary. But here in Hungary they dont distribute the DVD with the commentary

What is it exactly what you guys want? Is it background commentary during the main movie or is it The Making of Pearl Harbor/The Island?

I searched for the Bay movie DVD's, i got 4 of them
    • Pearl Harbor
    • Armageddon
    • The Rock
    • The Island
I got The Making of The Island and Pearl Harbor (documentaries) if you want...

They could have released a special edition of Pearl Harbor two days ago cause it's been 70 years ago since Pearl Harbor happened but they didn't, to bad i guess..

If you have this 4-disc edition Directors Cut then it should be on there.. maybe you can activate the Directors commentary by pressing the button on your TV/DVD controller and choose Audio: English 1, English 2. it's on disc one and two.
Try this and maybe it's on your version too but you never discovered it maybe? who knows...? let us know if its on your 4-disc edition alright.. i hope this helps.

Yeah, it's really a pity that we in Europe couldn't get the version that Flying wrote about. It's region coded to US and Canada only. How come they never released the director's cut outside of the US and on Blu-ray (except the plastic packs for UK)? What are the differences between the director's cut and the regular one? Or actually the Blu-ray that is released is with the director's cut. Because I see that the running time is the same. But why it is not labelled as such?

It's been a while since I've seen the Director's Cut ( I stick to the theatrical version ), so I'll just quote Wiki on this:

"The director's cut of the film included the reinsertion of graphic carnage during the central attack (including shots of eviscerated bodies being torn apart by strafing, blood, flying limbs and so forth); small alterations and additions to existing scenes; Doolittle addressing the pilots before the raid; and the replacement of the campfire scene with a scene of Doolittle speaking personally to Rafe and Danny about the value of friendship."

The Blu-ray is not the Director's Cut. It's the regular theatrical version.

I've looked around on the net for the Directors cut for you in the surrounding countries near you but they are all sold out the 3disc and the 4disc versions =/ =( if you really want it you'll need to order it from the UK or Germany maybe..

Thanks Flying but as I said the director's cut DVD is region coded to US and Canada. So even if I order it from UK it's still an US import and I can't watch it on my PS3 or DVD player (it's the same with you).
The only version of the director's cut that is playable in Europe is this one:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pearl-Harbor...3641025&sr=1-6

It looks horrible and there are zero special features.

Well, it's not entirely true. I got the 4-disc version that Flyingheart posted and it's a Region 2 dvd box. I bought it when they released it many many years ago. The thing is that the movie company doesn't release the 4-disc Director's Cut version on dvd no more. Now the only available versions on Region 2 is the 2-disc dvd and the Blu-ray version...

Yeah exactly, Albershide why did you think it's all US & Canada region coded??? your in the EU right? then it's Region 2 PAL for you...

..and that's what i was searching for for you but it's all sold out like i said, i searched on Polish, Italian and German sites for you.

    Just found this: (Germany)

Whats that? a region free blu-ray/dvd player? It's smart but not a very cheap solution to the problem they have though..

A $50 multi-region Samsung player can be turned into an ALL-region player with a simple hack.

Or so I've heard. : rol

Yes, I know that it's region 2 for me. You're right, I was searching only for a new DVD and missed the used ones. It really sucks that you can't get a new region 2 copy, although the fact that it's a DVD and not Blu-ray makes me not to want it that much. I want it mainly for the special features.

that's really a solution but I don't want to fill my home with all kinds of technics. For now the PS3 does a great job. Not to mention that the region coding is a thing of the past. I'm not saying that it will disappear completely but the situation with the Blu-rays is much better compared to DVDs. Before all DVDs were region coded and now most Blu-rays are region free and if they are coded then there is a version at the same price with the appropriate code. The thing that suck also is that many great special edition Blu-rays from the US are never released in Europe for example.

    So true.
