Right now, the site even admits it's still beta (http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/siri.html), but damn! That's one hell of a beta! I think this is Apple's way of trying to rid voice recognition technology of its "gimmick" status the same they rid touch screen technology of its gimmick status before.

Siri needs a little more work..

A friend of mine paid $680 for the iPhone 4s, even though he only had to wait 2 more months for his upgrade. He told me Apple could put it's logo on a brick, and he'd still buy it. THOSE are the ones people are referring to when they say Apple zombies.
"Players do what they want, haters do what they can" - Nietzsche
Kidding aside, while that's a fair (but ultimately anecdotal) example, that kind of consumer behavior isn't necessarily exclusive to Apple products, is it? Personally, I just find it funny how someone will go into a Coca-Cola thread, unsolicited, to yell Pepsi (with antagonizing generalizations), is all, Tim.
Well, I mean, in your friends defense, an Apple designed brick would be pretty badass.Originally Posted by TIMtationX

I'm Ed Fuego, that's who!
Wait, that isn't where I was going with that.
As r-type pointed out (I can't believe I'm giving you credit for something), the crazy zombies exist for every brand, on both sides, and of course each side thinks their side is only comprised of completely balanced, rational people.

This tool makes people into a lazy turd. We now have to have our txts and emails read to us? We have to have the weather told to us? If We go as far as picking up the phone and talking to a machine, can't they just click the weather app and READ?!
It makes sense from the driving standpoint for safety, but other than that, these "productivity" tools are making people more and more lazy.
There doesn't seem to be an effort anymore for people to figure out the littlest things. Couldn't that man just look up article data base and make an effort to find that article from 5 years ago? No wonder America's GPA is not increasing.
What I hate about companies like Apple is that they market the shit out of their products making it seem like the greatest thing on the face of the earth and that it's a 'people's product'. Bullshit. It's corporate GREED making unrepairable, proprietary products so you'd HAVE to buy from them. What's sad is that people fall for their marketing tactics. It's smart business I'll give them credit. But it's certainly not for the consumer's benefit.
I love being lazy.

First, I agree that people are lazier nowadays. But it's not the fault of technology. The problem is that the teachers (and I use that term in the most general sense, not just in school) of our youth use that technology to replace teaching basic principles and techniques instead of just using it to enhance the basics. Technology, in the right hands, in combination with the basics, is incredibly powerful and effective.Originally Posted by jamjam101

Unrepairable? Proprietary? Did we just take a time machine back to 1996?
You know what jam, you don't like Apple products, that's fine. I've got no problem with that.
But don't suggest that I have been duped by them. It's a pathetic argument, and doesn't do anything other that make your argument look ridiculous. I use the best tools at my disposal whenever I can, especially when they help me focus on doing great things instead of focusing on the technology.
Plus it's insulting because I'm really smart.
Maybe need to work on my humility.
But really fucking smart.

I second this. In fact, I'll go by example. This past semester I've pretty much mastered Excel through my Microcomputer Applications class and even now, I'm using that knowledge for other courses.
But I guess that means I am now too lazy to use a calculator to solve and apply functions manually as well as drawing tables and charts with a pencil and ruler.
In my POV, we need something like Siri. Not to help propagate our laziness, but to help us deal with the constant increasing bombardment of information present in today's age. Because of that, it'll give us more time to do other things. That's not being lazy. It's being productive.

Today I learned that using an iPhone will turn me into a lazy turd.
Siri just typed this up for me.
Anecdotal evidence aside, yet again:
It does what it says on the box.

Everyone is going to be able to find anecdotal evidence that supports the position. The question is what evidence exists beyond anecdotal, evidence that can be generalized to a large population.
My conclusion is that Android gives users the ability to modify their experience more than iOS, which is great for many of the more technical users, but iOS has a better end-to-end user experience, which is better for most non-technical users and those who don't care about that kind of thing.
Like me. I can buy movies, books, music, apps, from my phone, all from one place, all very easily. Play them on my computer, my iPad, my tv, all very easily. I like that. I can do everything I want to do with my iPhone, and with the lack of "openness", I think it is pretty well documented that it makes for a more secure, stable, consistent user experience than Android.
But I have friends who like the flexibility afforded by Android. Great. Have at it. More power to them. I don't begrudge them. They don't begrudge me. And at the end of the day, it's a phone.
Of course, I do tend to think that those who use iOS have more appreciation of good design, usability, and ergonomics.

I have no idea. Of course, I also have no idea what Crysis... is. So from my perspective, in my day to day life and work, it's not that important to me. It probably is important to some people, and in that case, an iPhone is not for them (I assume your question was somewhat rhetorical).Originally Posted by TIMtationX
I think that's another point to be made. Too many people become completely indignant when a particular device doesn't do exactly and everything they want. They slam the device because, "It doesn't do X and that's critical to me so because it doesn't do X it sucks donkey balls." Nooooooo... It just means that the device is not for you.

Nothing. No claim, video, survey, NOTHING provides a clearer description of a devices functionality than an end user's account of the experience. Anything released by a company that will profit by the sales of their device is nothing more than promotional material.
I disagree with the end-to-end statement, but that is a matter of opinion. Everything else though I agree with.
Yea, that is a great feature. It's very obvious that Google is heading the same direction. My only hope is that they never have software like iTunes. I really, really dislike iTunes.
I haven't seen any negative documentation on Android's security, or stability. The user experience though, again, comes down to personal preference.
Yep. It's just a phone. Which is exactly why I don't get the hate(on both sides). But then I read something like your last sentence and I know why.
Oh and maybe Nelson/Sora can split this thread? I didn't start the derailment, but I contributed to it, and i'm sure Trailbreaker didn't start an iPhone thread just to have the Android nerds talk it down.
I just got back from a friends place and half of the people there had iPhones. We downloaded some music and video clips and the iPhone noobs all wanted a copy of the files...
My biggest argument now against iPhone/itunes is the fact that people can't freely swap music and movies without syncing their iPhones to their laptops and having to jump over various hurdles only to discover that iPhone users can't transfer music and movies freely between devices. F*#k you Apple! Go suck a f$&k!
Some iPhone noobs had that "bump/tap/file swap app" but it only works on contacts and some other BS, after 1 hour of trying none of the iPhone user were able to swap/transfer music & movies/music video clip files between each other with our authorizing their devices with that laptop and it's the latest version of iTunes. (which meant there was a risk of swapping too much information - contacts, private photo's and video's etc)
As of now I will try to avoid this thread, you iPhone users can endorse iPhone and Siri until our troops come home but in the end your argument is invalid.
On the bright side i converted 2 iPhone users to Android mwahahahahahahahaha!
The only way to predict the future is to invent it.
One last thing (sorry, I browse with multiple tabs open in the Google Chrome browser and was unable to edit my last post due to the 5 min time constraint) but all these comments about iPhone devices "openness" - easily downloading games, apps, e-books, music and videos and then "sharing" them is just pointless if it's only between your own devices (main iTunes account), so much for making it "all very easily" and a more secure, stable, consistent and enjoyable experience... :lmao ... WHAT A JOKE!
If i need to do some work or surf the web I'll use a computer or laptop (regardless of it being a Mac or Windows OS), If i need to listen to music I'll use a high end music system (linked/streaming music from various other devices), if i need to play games i'll use an Xbox 360 or PS3, If i need to take photo's i use my Canon 5D, If i need to swap files with family and friend I'll use a USB flash drive or a portable HDD. If i need to make a phone call or do any of the above mentioned activities on the go I'd like to use a device that supports my lifestyle and lets me do this without any constraints.
