Yes, the atmosphere and grandeur were great at first, but there's this thing called "fridge logic" which can potentially sour it all up after.

I loved the movie when I walked out of the theater, but the more I sat there and though about it after, the less and less I liked it.

They tell us to leave our brain at home when we go see movies like DOTM and The Avengers, but I never thought I'd have to do the same with this movie.

Whether or not you liked Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus, you have to admit, the scientists in it were pretty crappy. They touch potentially hazardous foreign substances, interact with alien species, and poorly communicate with their crew. All in all, very dangerous stuff. A comedy troupe called Barely Political noticed that too and created what they’re calling a “Prometheus Pre-Prequel” featuring Weyland Industries scientists training for their trip. It’s very funny stuff.

Anyone else here grew up with the Alien movies? i had since i was a kid starting with Alien on video when i was 4 as i thought it was one of the scariest movies i've seen then i went to see Aliens in theaters when i was 5 3 times and thought it was one of the coolest movies i've ever seen. I had seen R-rated movies in theaters, video and cable since i was 4 as my parents didn't mind me watching and seeing R-rated movies as they knew i love Sci-fi, horror, fantasy, action and comedy including my bigger brother. I had the toys and t-shirts of Aliens as a kid including the movie magazine and played the arcade game which was badass, i even saw Alien 3 when i was 10 in theaters and Alien 4 as a teen.

Did anyone else collected the comics as well including the uber-cool Superman vs. Aliens crossover comic? i did and also Alien vs. Predator comics as well. Superman vs. Aliens was an epic story that was almost as good as Batman vs. Predator. i also have BVP trilogy, Superman vs. Predator, Batman vs. Aliens 1 & 2, Green Lantern vs. Aliens, JLA/Predators and even Superman and Batman vs. Aliens and Predator.

Nice find. I was thinking along similar lines - that the Engineers used the black liquid to create life forms, and their exposure to one of their creations gave rise to the Aliens - if I recall correctly, at least one of the Engineer bodies had chestburster injuries.

    I don't know, I also received this via e-mail:

Looks too big for just a Blu-ray release date. Also according to Blu-ray.com Prometheus has a release date and it's October 9, 2012!

Prometheus 2 to be released in 2014 or 2015! Go go go.

The studio's big summer bet was Ridley Scott's Prometheus, June's sort-of Alien prequel. The $130 million-budgeted film grossed a solid but not spectacular $303 million globally, putting it right on the franchise bubble. Fox confirms to THR that Scott and the studio actively are pushing ahead with a follow-up (stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed) and are talking to new writers because Prometheus co-scribe Damon Lindelof might not be available. "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it," says Fox president of production Emma Watts, who also has overseen the successful reboots of the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises. A Prometheus sequel would be released in 2014 or 2015.

Seen it today (just released in Spain) and I will say it is disappointing... at least. Don't want to call it a bad movie, but the amount of nonsense in it is very very high. Some great ideas and some great sequences but lots of ridiculous things.

Ending part (jockey hunting Noomi) is cheap crap. Same as zombie action scene, no one caring about zombie action scene and half crew dead, dumb scientists getting lost and dieing, no one caring about dumb scientists getting lost or drones finding fucking lifeforms, no one caring about Noomi getting pregnant or running around after surgery, Jockeys showing humanity the place where they make weapons of mass destruction, no one knowing or caring about Mr Wayland... and all the intelligent design shit. Nearly all the action/horror sequences are bad (only good one is Noomi's surgery, which is a great one) and lack any kind of drama. Nearly all characters are irrelevant (and pretty dumb).

    About the Blu-ray.

I'm sorry, but this is seriously stupid. So, in order for people to understand the movie...they''ll have to buy the Blu-ray. Apparently, these days it's just not enough for you to watch the movie in the theater..and understand it. : rol

It's like they admit that the film was a mess and now they want to "fix" everything. The Blu-ray trailer says "Questions will be answered". Really? Are we really there now? Was it too hard for them to explain everything in the theatrical version?

Maybe it's just me, but I think that this is beyond moronic. It's the first time I've seen anything like it. I hope that this is not the beginning of a new trend: "Hey folks, watching the movie in the theater is not enough. If you want answers, if you want to understand it - buy the Blu-ray."

Here's the ridiculous Blu-ray trailer that left me scratching my head:

"You know why the departures and the arrivals at LAX are on separate levels? So the 30,000 heartbreakers that come here each month don't notice the 30,000 that are leaving with their hearts broken."

Will the Blu-ray answer questions like why the hell were all the characters playing hot potato with the idiot ball?

It's just a clever advertising. Nothing more. Maybe many people will be fooled by this, that's their problem. I have to agree that they added pretty interesting scenes in this trailer. Too bad they won't solve the problems this movie has.

Overall I think this movie had a great viral campaign. Don't forget that there's a special "investor announcement" coming in 10 days.

    [rant]

There's folks out there who prefer the convenience of watching movies via internet-based video streaming/rental services like Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, pay-per-view, etc. (I'm becoming one of these people) that are gonna be at a disadvantage. The plot of the movie should be explained within the movie. That's why I hate it when folks say things like, "well if you read the book/comic/expanded universe you will understand!" No, just no. I have no time for that. Now we got a freakin' Blu-ray trailer...an AD...saying "well if you buy our expensive four-disc Blu-ray set you will understand!"

My attitude towards these super mega über collectors' editions is waning. After thinking about it, I realized that I rarely ever watch the special features more than once. Most of the time it's you're concept art, animation, story boards, inspiration, pre-visualization, blooper reels, commentaries, etc. It's starting to bore me, especially when a lot of that stuff is already on the internet, free to watch. There are a few exceptions (Transformers for example), but these days I just wanna watch the movie.

Seventy years separate the timelines of Ridley Scott’s directorial efforts Blade Runner and Prometheus, but a new Easter Egg suggests the plots take place in the same world. Available on DVD/Blu-ray in just a couple of days, Prometheus will have a special feature that reveals a few lines of text supposedly written by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce). The text, which you can read after the jump, talks about Weyland’s mentor, a creator of synthetic lifeforms who will be instantly familiar to fans of Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic, Blade Runner. This may be a simple nod to the fans that connects Scott’s works or perhaps it hints at a potential crossover in the planned sequel to Blade Runner.
Whatever people say about Prometheus (plot holes, plain characters etc.), we have to give Ridley a credit that he created another very distinct universe which if continued to be developed could turn to another fan favorite franchise. And if indeed they find a plausible way to connect the Alien movie with Prometheus, Blade Runner and Blade Runner sequel then this might be one of the greatest sci-fi franchises ever.

I came across the original script before Lindelof got his mitts on it. Haven't finished reading it yet but just got started.

I thought this is the most underrated movie of the year and i saw it 3 times in theaters and glad to have it on blu-ray.

Anyone else it wasn't dumbed down for a PG-13 rating cause that would had been insulting just like AVP, i mean some PG-13 action movies can be great like Avengers or Transformers but NEVER a PG-13 installment to a R-rated mature franchise like Alien, Predator, Robocop, Terminator, Die Hard etc. as those franchise are meant to be R-rated. I'm glad the studios listened after fans boycotted the idea of the film being PG-13 and they did the same for Expandables 2, we can prevent franchises from being PG-13 sugarcoated as they need to be respected for what they were. I didn't pay a dime to see Die Hard 4 in theaters as i had to wait for the 2-disc unrated cut which was a wise choice and i didn't pay a nickle to see Terminator 4 in it's theatrical neutered cut as i had to wait for the R-rated cut on blu-ray. Now there should be an online boycott if Die Hard 5 gets screwed with another PG-13 rating as it needs to go back it's R-rated adult roots and i hope they will listen but luckily that guy at Fox who screwed up DH 4 got fired now and hopefully there is a chance for a non-family DH movie as teens grow up you know.
