Thread: Optimus Prime VS. Starscream

  1. #1

    Default Optimus Prime VS. Starscream

Everybody knows that Optimus can't fight mano y mano with Megatron because Megatron is beyond his league, but I wonder who would win if Optimus Prime and Starscream fought in their Earth machine form instead of their Cybertron form.

    Prime and megatron aren't brothers.

Now Prime and Ultra Magnus, they are brothers cuz they were built at the same time.

And Starscream's a coward, he'll get get his a$$ cut off like bonecrusher's head.

It depends on which line you are looking at. In the G1 series, Prime was once known as Orion Pax, who had heard about Megatron, but didn't know him until of course Megs attacked Orions' energon warehouse.

In the movie, as well as the prequel, the writers give off the impression that Prime and Megs were brothers of some form. They once made sure Cybertron lived on in Peace until Megs wanted more power. They make note of Prime calling Megs, his brother throughout the movie. Perhaps in the Movie universe, they were brothers.

Ultra Magnus was never Primes brother. They were not built at the same time. Yes the toys share a similar looking cab, but they are still different. If you recall, Ultra Magnus didn't show up on the scene until the 1986 Transformers movie. Prime had been active long before that. I don't recall if there actually IS a series that relates them as being brothers. I don't recall them calling each other brothers during the Robots In Disguise series, nor in the Energon series, though they were able to link up to each other, and I'm not familiar with any other line, where Ultra Magnus was also in the mix.

Which weapon are you referring to? His mighty Laser Rifle, or his booming Ion Blaster? Or maybe you are referring to the 2 submachine guns that he had in the classic series. And what exactly is wrong with his energon axe, or his sword? However you look at it, he's carrying more than just a pea shooter. Unless someone thinks getting blasted into oblivion is nothing.

I didn't know that. wow, don't i feel stupid!!!I don't think they are literally brothers though. Maybe brother has a different meaning, like, for example, "preach on brother!"

Dreamwave actually the first to acknowledge prim and magnus as brothers.

I was thinking about this thread and remembered another episode in the G1 series. I don't recall the name of the episode right off bat, but it was where the kid, Sparky, was trying to figure out what Ultra Magnus's birthdate was so they could throw him a birthday party. If Prime and Magnus were brothers, wouldn't it make sense that their birthdays were close to each other? It would also mean that Magnus's birthday would have been close to when Orion was built.

In the Dreamwave series, I think its more meant as brothers as like.. blood brothers, or like how people who were in an orphanage were brothers because they grew up together. I guess it depends on how you look at a brother. It's sort of like one of my friends.. considers me family.. even though he's black and I'm white and we have no relation to each other.

In the movie Prime says something like sorry it had to come to this brother after Megs was defeated, so in the movie they are brothers.

Simon Furman Q&A Volume 2 LIVE!
    http://idwpublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=42871

    5) It's a very loose term, though. Can you define "brothers" in a TF sense? Is it merely some trivial notion of 'created around the same time' or 'somewhat looky-likey designs', or that they share some E.S.P., or what?

SF) What defines a ‘brother’ is going to feed into and be explored in two ’08 storylines. In the ‘ongoing.’ Sideswipe is about to step up and make his presence felt, most notably when he meets Sunstreaker again and realises he’s no longer just Sunstreaker! There is a bond between lots of characters, it’s just that in some cases it’s more pronounced, and the pair (or more) of characters in question are aware of it (even if it’s purely subliminal). Then, in a kind of standalone (but, of course, very connected) series, we’ll start to understand exactly where that link/bond came from. It’s connected to the lineage idea introduced in Spotlight Optimus Prime and to the eventual concept/realization of Combiners. Whatever it is, in some Transformers the bond is very strong, almost like in twins, in others it’s so watered down they don’t even know it’s there. A lot of ‘fundamental’ stuff, in terms of what makes a Transformer tick, is planned for next year.
This is just IDW's case but it still looks interesting.

In the live action movie continuity (the movie, prequel comic, a novel), Optimus and Megatron referred to each other as brother several time.
I wonder if it means just a fellowship? Sharing the same coding sequence? The unaware bond deep under the collective unconscious in Jungian way?

I'm looking forward to know about it.

so many people assumed that and I don't know why. They are no more brothers then me and you are. I thought it was obvious that it was just a figure of speech kind of thing.

It makes perfect sense. Optimus feels guilty that there was no other way than to kill his own brother whom he had ruled Cybertron together with for ages.

But he didn't kill him! Optimus said "You left me no choice, brother." Sam was the one that shoved the allspark up Meg's chassis. It was Sam's choice to kill Megatron. Not Prime's.

    The line should have read:

Prime: "you left me no choice but to get my ass kicked off screen for ten minutes and let some high school booger-picker make a foul out of you, brother."

And he might feel guilty that he is the one who decided to launch the Allspark away,
he is the one who imperilled the safety of the Earthling, and he is the one who couldn't bring the peaceful conclusion to their war.
The Primeship comes great responsibility. Maybe he is blaming all on himself.

I love to see him in that way (probably because I'm an audience from Samurai world which embracing defeat, you know).
So sometimes I'd like to call this movie "Transformers: Last Cybertronians"

Oops, sorry for getting off the track. VS. Screamer, go ahead.

all that is a given, but I am talking purely about the line.

Prime standing over a fallen Megatron: " You left me no choice, brother."

That line implies Prime had no choice but to kill Megatron....which he didn't do.

If you ask me, the line was designed to distract the audience from the fact Megatron was kill by a high schooler.... but if I said that... I would start to sound like Bowspearer.

Exactly what i thought. Why can't people grasp that..?

Its just a fellowship. They ARE on another planet, so why not refer each other that way? Megs and Prime have a lot of respect towards each other than most understand.

Its figure of speech, Not literal.

Yep, your interpretation makes sense in a way. I won't disagree.

Mainly I wanted to tell Universal Kalle that I have the same sentiment. ILM artists gave Optimus a perfect sad look on the face in several scenes. As if his remorse tracks back to long long past like "Magatron died in the Earth, the Allspark led Megs to here, I (Optimus) sent out the Allspark, Megs wanted to hold real power, I happend to become Prime... " OH HELL! PRIME IS SUCH A EMO!

I know I'm too biased and infatuated fan. Never mind and get back to the original subject.

Indeed! You can call it "The curse of the trilogy".
