  1. Re: Paramount's Marketing Dept. at it again...

I actually felt it was more like Goodfellas or Casino; you can guiltily identify with the characters' misdeeds at first, but their lives ultimately come crashing down.
  2. Paramount's Marketing Dept. at it again...

We all know P&G isn't exactly for everyone, but of course that hasn't stopped Paramount's marketing folks from trying to position the film otherwise.

Lee Burgess, the owner of the Highway 18...
  3. Re: 'Pain & Gain: The Untold True Story' and 'Pain & Gain: How I Survived and Triumph

How can anyone who's actually seen the film consider the portrayal of the criminals to be "sympathetic?"

Every member of the gang comes off as sad and pathetic.
  4. Sticky: Re: Official Pain & Gain discussion thread [ spoilers]

I loved that as well, as it came at precisely the point where I'm sure critics would have accused Michael of taking the story over the top into fantasy.

I also loved the very thinly disguised...

    Re: Pearl Harbor

Yep - all you have to do is look at IMdB where Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind are considered "dull" and "talky" and viewers can't make it more than five minutes into Casablance or...

    Re: "Baymageddon" - Alamo Drafthouse

Well, at least at the Denver theater "Sold Out" only means about 100 people.

I was much more pleased by the number of people I saw at the late night Pain & Gain showings last night (including me!)

    Re: I'm Proud Of Armageddon

    Thanks, Michael.

Perhaps someone needs to let KTLA's Sam Rubin know this as well, given how much glee he showed at your supposedly being "embarrassed" by Armageddon.

    Re: "Baymageddon" - Alamo Drafthouse

    Did anyone go?

The three films turned out to be Armageddon, The Rock and Bad Boys, but by the time they announced the titles it was sold out. :(

A PH quote from the NY Times article I posted in a different thread:

which is, to a certain degree, what the Vista Series version beloved by many of us is.

Really good New York Times article

I found this to be a rather good interview with Mr. Bay in the NYT and frankly, have even more respect for Mr. Bay now, something I didn't think possible:

The only downside is they say they will be showing three Bay films but won't announce in advance which three. :(

    Re: Pearl Harbor

That's OK; I re-watch Pearl Harbor regularly and love it, but have no intention of seeing Argo again.
  13. Re: Has anyone ever seen a MB-signed Pearl Harbor movie poster?

Bummer; all the PH posters I've seen have been signed by Affleck, Hartnett and Beckinsale, but never Michael, and I've always considered Pearl Harbor to be Michael's vision, not unlike the way that...
  14. Has anyone ever seen a MB-signed Pearl Harbor movie poster?

I've seen Michael Bay-signed movie posters for Armageddon, and films in the TF series, but I've had several memorabilia shops hunting for an MB-signed poster for Pearl Harbor but have never received...

    Re: Pearl Harbor commentary

It would only need to be two discs - one BD for the film (it was on two DVDs) and the two DVDs of extras on one BD containing the SD content.

Pity the Director's Cut hasn't even been made...

    Re: Pearl Harbor commentary

That's silly; extras are released as SD on Blu-rays all the time.

The question is whether the Vista Series cut exists as anything but SD video, the same as whether the Criterion cut of Armageddon...

    Re: In defense of 35mm

I'm quite the opposite; I will go out of my way to see real film projected and will only watch digital as a last resort.

It looks better than it used to, but blown highlights and crushed blacks...

Except for picture quality, you are much, much, much better off getting the Vista Series DVD and Michael's director's cut:

I still consider this perhaps the best of Michael's films; I still remember the first time I saw the trailer and was literally in tears at...

Top Gear US is absolutely horrible, IMHO.

I'd love to see how he'd do in the "reasonably priced car." ;)

Right - but Michael would know whether copies exist that Director's Cut Blu-rays could be made of, or if it would be a back to the camera negative or IP kind of thing.

I know many of the early HD...

I've mentioned this before, but simply put I wonder if the director's cuts of Armageddon and Pearl Harbor exist in any format amenable to a release on Blu-ray, ever, or do they only exist in the form...
