Calm down I mean it in defense of the man.

I've been a fan of his since I can remember, he was a major influence on my going to film school.

Found a great article discussing the man and his place in the hollywood system.

article here...http://moviemavericks.com/2011/02/whats-wrong-with-michael-bay/

From the article:

"Bay’s work was obviously heavily influenced by Scott’s style..."

"Influenced" - yes. "Heavily influenced" - no.

The irony is that these days Tony Scott is trying to be Michael Bay. Personally, I don't think it's working out for him, because he takes it to the extreme - camera that's moving all the time, combined with rapid-fire editing, zoom-ins and outs, freeze-frames, focus changes, color saturation and all that stuff.

I just think it's too much for the eye. I'm sure you guys have seen "Domino" and "Unstoppable", so you know what I'm talking about.

On the other hand, Michael is sticking to his style from "Bad Boys" and, in my view, it still works for him.

Just saw unstoppable and I agree...it was very shaky and had tight edits...but I love Denzel so I had to see it.....

I would saw that 'Armageddon' most closely resembles Scott's hyper style.

And Denzel is really cool in unstoppable!:)

I think Domino is the most heavy from Scott's part. Yet his style ain't new either, heck Top Gun had some crazy editing of his own, and it was only 1986! And Crimson Tide, (Denzel again)...I think it works for both actually, Scott and Bay.

Couldn't agree more. Why anyone still uses freeze frames in a feature is beyond me. Tacky as all hell.

I think Michael has evolved beyond Badboys. Watched it again the other night on blu-ray, and, it felt very "young".

In TF2, he was much more steadied, moving his camera differently than before. The crane and dolly moves don't take you out of the film, IMHO, they submerse you. I still believe it's his finest film to date. At last count, I've watched it 35 times, and I'll probably watch it another 30.

His Victoria Secret ads are beyond gorgeous, but again, removed from Bad Boys.

I'm counting the days for DOTM. Although I will still see everything else, DOTM is the only film I'll pay to watch - at least twice.

Tony Scott wishes he was Michael Bay

I agree with your views on BB having a 'young' feel

I think thats what made BB2 so spectacular it was an evolved action film.
and from the trailers it looks like the new Fast and Furious is ripping off the car chase with a boat set up.

Yea I agree Bad Boys did have a young feel and it made Bad Boys 2 seemed so evolved and it really worked.

But at the same time I do agree with what Bayhem said about how Michael still uses the same style he used with Bad Boys and it still works for him.

And it definetley still works for him b/c I think he's one of the most, if not the most effective director behind a camera today, and he's been effective for a while now and I think he will continue to be for a long time.

And like many others on here I cant wait for Transformers DOTM. Im not gonna lie for a split second I was skeptical about the 3d use but then I saw the first official teaser trailer then the super bowl spot and I was blown away. There's alot of movies I am looking forward to this summer but theres none I am more excited for than DOTM.

you have to take into account what kind of movie is being made. tony scott is a good director but if the subject matter is pretty bad, the movie will suck anyway regardless of the directing style like domino.

fortunately bay chose films with good storylines. so the story was mixed with his fast motion style, you get a great movie as a result.

when the island came out, at the time i felt it was bay's best movie. but his best movie now are tf 1,2 and 3.
