Before any of you get your hopes up I am talking about the game that was released around the time of the movie.
There is a decepticon who is an extra boss you fight in one of the levels. I think at the time I was either bumblebee or jazz. This particular character was made into a tripple changer for the game. His three modes were: apache gunship, a howitzer type cannon and of course the robot mode. He was aptly named SHOCKWAVE. Now obviously the game designers can "play" with expand a bit more in regards to character's etc as apposed to the film where the narrative and more importantly the budget have an influence on how and what can be used.
I would just thought I would let you all know about this addition to the game as it answers a long awaited question of mine and that was "will shockwave ever make an appearance again?"
Even though he didn't really say much it was a great way to show him as a tripple changer and more or less bring him back from the dark ages.

You chase him through the city to try and stop him from distroying the city.

I'm leery about getting this game because I've heard so-so reviews about it.
And it's not multiplayer on the 360.

The game was horrible to say good things about it. I found myself wanting to beat levels in it because I was hoping the next level would be better than the crappy level that I was on. Every level was pretty much the same... good graphics thats all I can say positively about the thing.

I agree, the beating the next to next to next level had me goin' too. But, after a few attempts, I quit playing as an autobot and decided to start over as a decepticon!!!Then i realized I can go on line and find cheat codes........what???..you haven't:D

Kids love it. A extremely hard core fan would own it. Other than thats it sucks. It was made by the people that did the Lego SW, Travelers Tales(?). So you see what happens when its rushed from a company that can make good games especially for kids.

That was easy, you take on starscream first and then worry about blackout. To take him down you had to throw cars at him when his health got low enough. There is some strategy involved instead of just mindless blasting.

That is a bit harsh. TT usually make decent games, they did after all do crash bandicoot and lego star wars. And the soon to be released lego batman and indiana jones.

Okay, I must be the only one who like it then <-- any supporters of the game? Hello? *Waves*
I have it on PS2 and PSP and I like the PS2 version better. I really enjoy running around finding the cubes and doing the sub-missions (though some were infuriating! Like the hunt one.) I realise that the levels where pretty much the same - search, drive, fight... and I especially loved playing as a Decepticon - Blackout and Starscream are total badasses and I love Blackout's heavy fire weapon.
And I'm no kid either at 30, just not a picky gamer. This is one game I can repeat playing, but I haven't been able to get 100% so that has left me miffed but eh!

I never said I didn't like it. It is a good game, however it is not as good as the transformers armada game that was released on ps2. Now that was great, massive lush levels, minicons everywhere.........If only they took some notes from that one.
Just as a side note (pm back would be better to prevent this thread going of course) have you played killzone?

Me, being an Xbox owner, cant hire out the Armada game, but my mates has a PS2 and we hired it out, it i so cool! The Levels are HUGE! Interaction was great. Soo fun. Especially the minicons! LOL So cool. But the new game i found, well - im not a hardcore gamer lol, so it was hard for me to get use to on 360 Eek. lol. But the levels were small [in a sense] As they have that BattleArea thingy. And the mission where pretty much "Destroy [Put Another Transformers name here] "
Armada all the way. New Movie all the way! New Game.. no thanks. :D

I hated the Transformers Game. I didn't match up to the film. I hated how everything was timed. It would have been better if there was more fighting and less running around, IMO.

I have the ps2 version..most likely the same as ps3 or x-box. Average game....but so are most movie games.......(with the exception of "From Russia with Love" That was an excellent game). I was dissapointed that frenzy or Brawl/ Devastator were not playable characters
The wife got me the psp version as well, and it sucked ass.....
Anyway, the game writers should make another transformers game not based on the movie.......perhaps explore the use of the justice league /marvel ultimate alliance engine for some levels. I like the use of different combo attacks and power ups. First/third person shooter and driving modes could be used in other levels.
but my mates has a PS2 and we hired it out, it i so cool!
You say true! Armada was great!
Anyway, the game writers should make another transformers game not based on the movie...
What about a "Transfromers: Victory" based game? ;)
And the "movie game" was just an "addition to the movie" :( Yeah, it was cool to play Blackout, or Barricade, but they all were so alike each other :( Where are spinning blades of Barricade? Where're cool movements of Jazz? Why Brawl and Bonecrusher were not playable?? Where's Frenzy, my fav???
I still hope to see really cool game based on "Transformers 2".

That game rocked! I was fortunate to be working as a reviewer for a magazine when it was released and my boss, and friend, gave it to me to review some time before it was released. He was only going to give me 1500 letters but I whined and whined cause it was fracking Transformers and I ended up having a full page review with cool pictures and all! :D
Now if I could only get my PS2 repaired (or if Sony could undo the retarded removal of the PS3 backwards compability so it would be worth spending all that money on it) so I can play Transformers again ^^

The game came out before the movie.
Of course it wasn't going to have the same storyline so it would prevent ruining the actual movie story line since the game hit the shelves a few months before the movie came out.
Thought the game was awesome. I'm just eager for another to play.

Okay, ley me clarify myself.I was reffering to transformers energon the game for ps2.I'm not saying to make up new robots or anything of the sort.I was talking about the game play, and strategic qualities they could of added. The zoom modes and the alt mode transformation was far superior to the new game.I do admit the movie games graphics and looks were far superior but the fluidity and lack of character depths and missions were far weaker. Why not make the movie game not a freakin movie but a game?have zoom in capabilities energon blade capabilities and even throw in some possible things for the next movie like saying the way skorpinok came joined to black out but then black out used him as a wepon when fighting bee.

I knew what you meant as well rad. It's funny as you and I seem to be the only 2 who are on the same page here. The game that you and I both have referred to, was actually made here in australia by Melbourne house a division of atari. It was so well made that I don't know why TT didn't have a look at how it was done. I mean the level designs and character animations were so awesome to look at that some times I would just sit and stare at the screen at some of the beautiful renders.
Here are some screen shots over at gamefaqs for those who have yet to see this great game. Note some are blurry as no doubt they have been taken from the game during play.

Now as you can see hotshot with wings there, but it is the background that says it all.
Another from the same level, but a wide shot without a transformer in the way. The detail and whatnot is so good that it looks like a postcard. I mean take out those 2 blue beams shooting up into the air, (they are access portals back to autobot hq) and it looks like a photo taken of the amazon with some ruins.

Yes! Like this! Energon blade for Prime, advanced bare hands combat abilities for Barricade, scorponok as an ally for Blackout - more roleplay, I'd say. More difference for different game characters.

I'm in the US as well. I don't beleive there was a game ever put out called Transformers Armada, but there was a game put out for Playstation 2 simply called Transformers by Atari that used the Armada figures. Here is the link: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/transformersarmada/
Edit: Ok so nevermind.. I clicked on the links and its the same game you were talking about.. Though you have different box art for European and Australian games I guess. All in all, its still Armada figures, not Energon. Not sure where the Energon thing came from. As far as I know, theres only been so many Transformers games out. There was a Transformers game for Nintendo way back when, then Beast Wars Transformers (Playstation), Beast Wars Transmetals (Playstation, N64), Transformers (Ps2 - w/ Armada figures), and Transformers the Movie (Numerous formats).

I don't doubt you rad I am just trying to work out why they would call it energon when it is clearly the armada series transformers in it. Coz it proves another thing in regards to continuity. As I mentioned it follows the cartoon story almost 100%. The only differences were there were less autobots in the game, they were still chasing the minicons and at the end you face off against unicron just like in the cartoon. Also clearly it was the armada prime, redalert and hotshot in the game and not their energon versions. So spelling error is right me thinks.

Here in Australia back in 2004 the Transformer game for the PS2 was called Transformers ARMADA.
http://palgn.com.au/images/avatars/gallery/O/Optimus_Prime.jpg
Based on the new animated series, Transformers Armada: Prelude to the Energon is Atari's new action adventure, aimed at roping in new fans of the show and cooing back starry eyed oldsters.
This new game will be exclusive for the PS2 and is billed as a 'revolutionary' 3rd person game where the player takes control of an Autobot to lend a hand in the eternal fight against the Decepticons.
This game goes against the recent trend of games that feature drivable vehicles, since you automatically have the ultra-cool feature to turn into one and drive away. From articulated trucks to sports cars to...um...some sort of cheap VW Beetle rip-off.
In normal mode though, you'll be able to utilise various weapons including cluster rockets, homing missiles and vortex cannons. A cannon is not a cannon unless it's a vortex, I think.
Here's the sales pitch from Andrew Carter, VP of product development for Atari Melbourne:
"We're working diligently to develop a game that expands upon the TRANSFORMERS ARMADA brand to deliver a truly unique experience with intense gameplay, vast environments and an emphasis on combat. Every massive environment and character model will be delivered with an unprecedented level of visual realism by harnessing PlayStation 2 system's powerful graphics technology and techniques - resulting in incredible rendering effects and absolute immersion for players." Sounds lovely.
With the Armada expansion of the Transformer Universe came the ability to collect 'Mini-cons' and evolve your Autobot while the Decepticons vie for this ability also. The game puts emphasis on this ability, as a sort of 'power-up' and it is the aim of the game to free the Mini-con race, defeat Megatron & the Decepticlones thereby saving the planet Earth. Phew!
The game is set for PAL territories some time in the spring of 2004 for PlayStation 2 only.

Armada or Energon... This is the same game, believe me. There are only three TF games on PS2. "Transformers: Tatakae" with a lot of G1 characters and "Transformers Armada: Prelude to Energon" and "Transformers: Movie" game.
I can play my Playstation Transformers Beast Wars and Transformers Beast Wars Transmetals games on the Playstation 2. Does that count? :p

To post a picture - upload it online, to some sharefolder (imageshack.us, photobucket.com, tynipic.com and so on), then click an icon above "quickanswer" text area and paste in the link.

Holy crap we have a debate on our hands here. Thank god no one is at each other's throats here. Now I have gone back to page 3 where I put up the pics and I looked over the first link and this is what I found.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/image/917920.html?box=26577
The first europe cover, australia gets the same covers that euro gets.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/image/917920.html?box=52063
The US cover obviouly different but it is the same one in rad's avatar. But notice it clearly says just Transformers on the cover there.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/image/917920.html?box=69240
Then a year later they released the director's cut in euro which from what I see is no different, just a blue cover.
You may have misread somewhere in the game manual perhaps rad that it says something about a prelude to energon. But no where on the game cover does it say transformers armada: prelude to energon.
SS you are right in regards to the intro movies and the premovie just before the first level starts, as I have do have the game as mentioned and I remember that part of it. Of special note is the minicon ship, straight out of the cartoon. The only thing I missed was Prime's power link with his trailer. That would have been cool if they got that in.

finally back on,lol.Okay I not only beleive but am not positive it says energon in the manuel...However my game the cover just says tf;However my game when playing does say transformers energon. And this is why me and many others refer to the game as transformers energon.

Well it is possible you got a completed beta copy with some of the bugs still present. They shipped it without thought not realising that was the case.

I wonder... I actually picked up the Playstation magazine issue #82 I believe it was that had the demo version of the Transformers (Armada) game in it as well.. I'll have to take a look at that copy again to see if it says anything about a prelude to energon or something of that nature..

No I meant the beta version of transformers before they completed it. During that time they usually throw around title ideas, it probably just so happened that during that time "prelude to energon" was considered as armada takes place before energon anyway. We'll never really know as melbourne house has disolved into atari now. (I mean I could ring them as I have done before when the game came out, I actually managed to talk to the game producer, hey don't ask me how that happened. I just picked up the phone and asked the operator for the number for melbourne house..the rest is history.)
I know you are inching to know what he said, well I did ask at the time if they were working on a sequel, they said they were. Now this was over 3 years ago. So it's safe to say that a sequel is not on the cards as they well and truely missed the boat there.
I did tell him that I was impressed with them getting the voice cast from armada into the game, mainly prime and megatron. Gary Chalk and David Kaye respectively.
My main point of ringing him was to congratulate at the time, a great game worthy to hold the transformers title. He was a bit taken aback at how direct I was being as well he like me is an aussie and when we have something to say we say it. He actually said that he was impressed with the reception of the game so far at the time. Why a sequel was never made we will never know.

Ok, my bad.. it was Playstation Issue #81, not #82. On page 92 of the issue it has a review of the game and some of the things in it as well as the extras. All thru the article it refers to the game being based on the Transformers Armada series. The only time it says anything about Energon, is where there are extras. In the Comics section it states "Transformers has four minicomics to unlock. They're based on the Armada and Energon universes, which both feature characters who apparently repeat their English phrases in French and Spanish".

That you are right on. The comics were a mixed bunch and some of it created more questions that it answered. I think they did it as a lead up to energon by adding them as datacons to find thru the game to unlock.

yhea I found everthing except like three things.and I never saw prelude anywhere never even heard it called that here.just energon in the game...I got to find my manuel and scan a pic of it,I think it shows energon in the title their.

This is the link (http://www.thetransformers.ru/ps2/ps2armada) to a site where you can see "prelude...". The page's non-english, but the name is english and it's at the top of the page.
"Energon" is not quite right because game's plot is based on "Armada", not "Energon" series.
I'll try to explain. There's "Unicron trilogy" made in Japan by Takara and translated into english by Hasbro in 2002-2005. It consists of "Micron Densetsu" ("Armada")
, "Superlink" ("Energon") and "Galaxy Force" ("Cybertron") series. "Armada" is a prequel to "Energon". Maybe it is the reason for "prelude..." in the name of the game...

http://babel.altavista.com helps translate the page from russian to english, though a lot of the translation doesn't look to make any sense. I see the name at the top, but I have a feeling someone typed it in there the wrong way in the beginning.

Nope.. I can't say I've ever seen nor heard it called energon anywhere.. Like I said before the only time it ever mentioned anything about Energon was in the extras section with the comics.
