Ok, I first have to say this came out in 1999, and I was only 16 so it wasn't like I was trolling the waters for great cenima. But, DAMN. I have raved about The Departed for the past year or so, but this is probably the greatest concept for a film I have EVER seen. It clocks in at just over 3 hours, so it's no quick ride. It IS an emotional roller coaster if there is such a thing. Art to the nth degree. I had never heard of this film until BLAM, it popped up on TV about 3 hours ago... WTH.
Has anyone else seen it or know what I'm talking about? This is the best example of writing I've seen in a loooong time. Nothing is what you think, and everything has a place. It's not pointless BS. There is nothing like in The Departed saying well this guy killed that guy b/c they writer didn't want to fill in a true denouement. I just got through watching this so I have to let it sit, but I'll be damned it this isn't the best piece of film I've seen since, and maybe before The Departed. Heavy Drama (even melodrama) Not to the extent of White Oleander, but it's a true original. WOW. SEE IT, SEE IT, and SEE IT!...
EDIT:
Actors:
Tom Cruise
Juliane Moore
Phillip Seymore Hoffman
Will H. Macy
John C. Reiley
& MANY MORE
Truly an ensemble piece, if you like Crash you'll love this!

I have seen bits and pieces of it, but not in its entirety yet. It's in the Netflix queue somewhere.
Cameron Crowe usually does good films. Elizabethtown was okay. He does pick great music for his soundtracks though.
I've heard it's very confusing to watch because it's shot from an addict's point of view or something like that, but hell, anything with John C. Reilly I'd watch. Loved Ricky Bobby.
Anyways, yes, I will watch it, someday, sometime. :)

Hey B, I believe Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood) was the director of Magnolia.

IMDB Strikes again! And yea it was Anderson... Thank God no relation to W.S.. I really, really liked this. WOW! The moral: It happens... What is IT... Life. No sad endings, no happy endings, in the end there is just an ending. That goes for everyone and everything.
