Was fucking awesome. Every time they had Heath Ledger on as the joker (which was quite often) was a fucking treat. If he acts like this all throughout the movie and the tone of his character is like this, then crap this is going to be one bad ass joker. He's definitely not Jack Nicholson. And while I loved Jack's Joker, his performance seemed more cartoony then a demented psycho killer. Which is what we all see the Joker as now. From what is shown of Heath he definitely has down that psycho crazy creepy thing. It was very exciting.
Also I want to go on record as saying Batman Begins, while I liked the reboot of the franchise and I liked that they took it back to the darker tone. I didn't really like it as a whole. But I've talked about that in these forums before.

Did you catch the IMAX version? That was freaking insane. (caught it with I Am Legend in IMAX) The whole Bank heist prologue in true IMAX format!! Heath's Joker is gonna be one for the books. then at the end with all of the cut scenes with the Bat Pod :)

Yet another reason to see I Am Legend....but the nearest IMAX is like 90 miles away...:(
Okay, seriously, I just watched the trailer for it (pirated of course! wasn't the best quality) on aintitcoolnews, and DAMN, Heath really nails the Joker. DAMN!!
And I ALWAYS have to look at the boards and see what comments people make. This one made me nearly choke on my gum:

03:35:50 AM I will download it in 1080 High Definition and masturbate to it six hundred and sixty six times in a row. And I will not clean up after each consecutive orgasm. It's going to get messy. Damn you Michael Bay.
That bolded part was what made me nearly choke.
I did block out some words because they were a bit graphic. I nearly threw up at first then nearly choked, but thought I'd sensor it for everyone's sakes. Who knows, you may be eating, drinking or reading this board with your darling children.
You're welcome! :P

Here's the individual trailer (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=23945117) (poor quality for now)
I still recommend catching the IMAX footage. The more I watch it the more want a Bat Pod. :p

Gee, thanks. I do tend to have a ray of sunshine come out from time to time. I don't think I'm rude, but if someone's rude to me, I'm rude right back buster.
The trailer is somewhat bad quality, but still very very good.

i hate to say it...but the clip was good....but compared to the regular trailer...i dont feel you saw enough of the joker's personality. Hard to explain, but it almost seems like you saw the joker more in the regular trailer. In this he was just kind of stiff and silent. In the regular trailer he was very animated and you could feel the presence when you looked at him.

Thanks for that youTube link, Ag.
I never really expected to learn too much about the Joker from the IMAX prologue. I saw enough to pique my interest another notch, is all. The real treat for me was seeing that entire sequence in the full 70mm (just like those IMAX documentaries), since they filmed it using the actual IMAX cameras.

YES!!! I will watch it again, in High Def this time, at home tonight and notice other things like that.
But I did notice that the Joker really really manages to get into Bruce/Batman's head, making him feel like a freak and that he's not accepted. I think he would get in my head too. Of course I'm very easily swayed.
Damn this will be a good movie.

Killing Joke, Arkham Asylum, The Dark Knight Returns, Year One, Gotham by Gaslight, A Death in the Family...

Dude, Azrael was the shit! Most people are mad because he changed the costume and that it wasn't Dick who replaced Bruce in the first place. Either way Knightfall was one of those great Batman stories too. That issue with Abbotor (sp) still gives me the willies thinking about it ... A nut job who thinks that eating family members makes him stronger. Yes, Batman had to take out a Cannibal!
http://www.darkknight.ca/gallery/azrael-b.jpg
For me choosing favorite Batman books it's pretty difficult. I usually go for the Miller stuff first then the Loeb stuff (I love how BB worked in the Falcone family from The Long Halloween and Dark Victory). Those two tend to have more of the psychos.
Here's a good question. Who's your favorite Batman psycho? Mine's Victor Zsasz, he's a serial killer who uses the weapon he uses to kill to also scar himself. By now his entire body is covered in scars and each one represents a life he's taken. He showed up in Batman Begins but he was just on trial and sent to Arkham, we didn't even get to see him take a razor to a chick. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zsasz

I mean his psychos overall. If one were to go off how Zsasz was portrayed in the film he's just a mob killer. Another good Batman nutjob is Firefly.
Oh, have you guys seen the Arkham Asylum fan film? It's pretty insane, they got the crazy look of the art and I thought that would be pretty impossible making an impressionistic book come to life. It's in spanish but it does have subtitles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-7W3be8XtQ&feature=related

I just pre-ordered the hard back edition of the Killing Joke. It doesn't come out until March 19, so puh-lenty of time to read it before the movie comes out. Cheaper than the other versions too.

The reason I wasn't mad about him was referable to the time lag of availability. Back then importing American comics took a long time, so Japanese readers saw him after everyone already knew he was a temporary stand-in. And I liked the way Dick was bitcing about Azbat to Tim. :D

Personally I'm still waiting for a movie that lets Batman get open like he does in the comics. Seriously, greatest detective ever, greatest ninja ever? More people need to end the movies with broken faces.
There's a reason why he's a regular human yet all the (literal) Gods in the JLA fear him.
This should be agony. I should be a mass of aching muscle, unable to move. And, were I an older man, I surely would... ... but I'm a man of thirty -- of twenty again. The rain on my chest is a baptism -- I'm born again... I smell their fear -- and it is sweet. The Dark Knight has returned - Batman from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. A story about a 55 year old Batman still smashing faces.

I am sooo jealous of Heath Ledger. That role is an actor's dream. If played right I could see the academy looking to give him a nod after roles like Broke Back. It'll definitely take the cake for the greatest portrayal of the Character, and will 100% win MTV Movie awards best Villain if nothing more.

Yep, yep, yep... looks like a wicked, I say Wicked portrayal. But I still don't like clowns.
I really don't see the Joker as a clown.
No, wait, the Jack Nic version I do, but not this one.
I just see Ledger's joker as somewhat of a demented, tortured soul who 'has a taste for theatrics.'

Nicholson if ou listen doesn't seem like he tried very hard in that flick. Lines like "Woop" that he repeats in the resturant scene it is like he cued off the script and that had those exact words typed. Some of the best stuff are the lines like Wait'll they get a load of me, and Where does he get those wonderful toys. Delivered greatly. I noticed in one of the trailers or the bank scene heath has a line similar to wait'll they get a load of me. DAMN! Though the performance Ledger puts in is worth the ticket. If we have seen so little and gotten so much I can only imagine.
Batman Begins was alright I saw it in Grahmans in West Hollywood and was under whelmed, but it was a great film none the less. They gave batman back his Balls. That's why Batman's wins is so prevalent. I say Underwhelmed b/c of Spider-man being so damn good, and havin just as large of hopes. I really am jealous though it's one of the greatest Villans of all times. Cpt. Hook, Joker, Luthor, Carnage/Venom, endless list. But as far as Iconic Villains Hook and Joker are at the top for an actor. So damn different. Remember the clay looking beast the scarecrow ran with? Think of all the new villains they can choose from. This role would kick ass! Damn YOU HEATH! DAMN YOU!!!

OOOOH, I'm looking around on the IMDB page of The Dark Knight and Barbara Gordon is in it.
I wonder if Nolan really is going for the Killing Joke angle...
OmarB
01-04-2008, 03:23 PM
He can't, Barbra was a kid in the first one. Remember that scen with Gordon at home having dinner with the family then goes outside and Batman's on his back poarch. Right, the kid at the table was Barbra, she could not have been more than 4 there. But then Gordon's wife is also named Barbra. Plus, the whole impact of The Killing Joke is the mutilation and rape of not only Barbra but Batgirl too, it was an act to hurt both her "fathers."

Actually since the first movie the angle has been directed straight at the darknight series, don't be a bit surprised to see barbra in the third film with a fight between superman and batman as well as a guest appearence from the green arrow.though the movie has not followed exactly along the lines of the darknight the darknight returns comics it has definatly taken it's look and character type of bats in that direction and as for the joker I think they shoulda headed more in the direction of batman dead end the movie for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about heres a link to the movie.

Dude, The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Strikes Back are set years in the future (Batman at 55, not his present 32) so it can't play into these movies except thematically. The fight you are referring to with Superman, Batman and Green Arrow showing up didn't have Barbra there, it was Carrie Kelly (Robin then Catgirl), Barbra/Batgirl had nothing to do with it.
Batman Begins had lots out of Miller's Batman Year One. Does not mean it's gonna suddenly become TDKR and have old washed up superheros popping up everywhere, not in Nolan's real world Batman universe.
Oh, and I think Batman Dead end sucked. Sandy Collara, I give him respect for what he was trying but it looked cheap and the suit looked like a stupid Halloween costume. A human cannot fight super villains, aliens and predators in tights, works in comics, not in movies ... that's why moves are adaptations not one to one conversions.

But....Iron Man first....then Indy...then Wall-E....then TDK.
Man it will be a sweet summer.

Can't say I was the least bit impressed by the new trailer - not even on a movie screen. While still OK, it's the worst of the lot so far. Nevertheless, I'm absolutely looking forward to "The Dark Knight".
