View Full Version : Michael Bay... Republican or Democrat?

What side of the political board is Michael Bay on?
How much of the criticism Armageddon and Pearl Harbor received was down to the fact they appeared to be right wing movies?
Does politics have anything to do with the atrocious critical reviews these films received?
Fair criticism is always welcome, but the liberal press absolutely destroyed both films, not on merit, or on any kind of cinematographic criteria, but solely based on the fact they couldn't stomach the pro Americanism.
Armageddon was laughed at in Cannes. They hated the story of an oil driller saving the world, a real American hero.
Pearl Harbor was hated because it glorified American military achievements in World War 2. Liberal film critics allow their own political bias to interfere.
Were the positive reviews for Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima down to the fact both have a clear left wing message? They wouldn't dare criticise one of their own, Clint Eastwood. Yet Eastwood's films are no way near as emotional, intense, or exciting as Pearl Harbor.
I personally don't care whether the theme of the film is right/or left. I want to be transported into another world. The visuals have to be perfect. Armageddon and Pearl Harbor achieved that.
And of course you cannot determine a filmmakers political views based on his movies. Zulu by Cy Endfield is about a military battle, glorifying war and colonialism in many ways. But Endfield himself was a communist.

I really don't care at all what his political affiliation is. I'm a fan of the art, not the artist. There are many people who great work and may be quite different in their personal life (like Polanski). I don't think about his politics, religion, finances, private life or anything outside of his art.

i dont see why it matters whether or not he is republican or democrat. The side of Michael Bay i'm interested in is his professional work...not his personal life.

I respect the democrats because they want to see every American have the right to vote and actually have their votes counted in contrast to the conservative republicans who want only the wealthy and powerful to have that right. Looking at their most recent speeches, in PollclaSh (http://pollclash.com). The republicans want the status quo and forget that we are still working to make this a more perfect union. Yes, the right-wing republicans would prefer to return to the days of slavery and when they "won" the Southwest from Mexico. The truth hurts sometimes but if what I'm writing hurts you then you must surely be a ultra right-wing republican.

Thomas Jefferson's political party was Democratic-Republican (slave owner); Andrew Jackson was a Democrat (slave owner) and Abraham Lincoln (abolished slavery) was Republican.
There is no such thing as perfect, not even a perfect fool.
Nobody needs to tell anyone what affiliation they belong to if any at all. That they think for themselves is all that matters.

Liberal Democrats want to put America into an economy downfall, to where the citizens HAVE to rely in the government to take care of them. Conservative Republicans stand for the original constitution and freedom. i.e. for high gas prices. Democrats endorse bio-fuel which jacks up the price of certain foods, and Republics want to independently drill and refine our own fuel. Bush (Republican), tried to pass a bill recently to drill off shores to give a break in high prices, the Demoncrats shot it down, 2 times. You can't blame everything on the President. The Congress has just as much of a play in what happens as the President. The majority of Congress are Liberal Democrats.

Be careful what you post. An argument waiting to happen.
And this is Michael Bay we're talking about here, not politics in general (this thread should actually be in the Michael Bay forum). Actually, I predict that this thread to be locked sooner or later. Political discussions get heated which is why some forums on other sites don't allow them.

Nah, I doubt it'll be locked as long as people argue like adults. Which, probably won't happen. So yeah, it'll probably get locked :p
