The Beast is right below. I was finally able to get it on itunes today as they uploaded the trailer from Beowulf to PODCAST. This Link: THE LEVIATHAN (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KcYrGxsNIQ&feature=related) Shows that the original sketch/water color appears to be correct. So it looks like this will be on BAD ASS monster flick. Sorry for the other post of mine that was unorganized as I was excited (and buzzed). But, I have edited it and hopefully it makes more sense now. So check out the old post and the posted link for support. This pops up at 1:29 seconds of the frame as the tanks attack. I cannot see the smaller creatures except in shadow, but the link provided below matches this big baddie. SO, If you see the example un-edited on the youtube link; you will understand the picture below.
DO NOT SCROLL DOWN UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEE

OLD POST:

I was peeked in interest to this film back around September, but just recently found out some cool stuff.

Check out SLUSHO.jp (http://www.slusho.jp/) it is a website that is under the management of Paramount about the viral sleuth marketing campaign. Reading some of the information there they keep talking about a whale and drinking this special drink. The discoverer of the drink became a big whale in his dream about the product; even before he went on a marketing campaign. The fictional drink is created from something called Sea Nectar and is found in the deepest parts of the ocean. Under massive pressure and MUST be at a color temperature to preserve the nectar.

MY THEORY IS THIS:
The Marine Scientist (discovered the nectar) because of the great pressure and temperatures that it is under, drilling for the drink's ingredients caused the pocket to burst and leak into the water. A whale consumes a large amount of this liquid and changes from a BIG WHALE to something else. OR the scientist experimented on his animals with the nectar in a straight form. The site claims the drink has magical properties and mentions the FDA. I assume the position that the drink is like evolution cocaine. It speeds it up. So BAM there it is!

Tell me what ya think or put your own spiel in here!

I also found this online and it helps put the story together for me. I have NO CLUE if I am correct but like I posted in Simon's thread "I'd bet my ridiculous government salary" that I am.

The man who discovered a presumed picture of the beast and it's image is inside. DO NOT CLICK AS IT MAY BE A LARGE SPOILER:
THE LEVIATHAN (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KcYrGxsNIQ&feature=related)

I hate to tell ya this, but J.J. Abhrams is on top of this one 110%. There is nothing in that picture but smoke. The whale looking monster in the pictures that are shown on youtube, etc. are not it. We will only see what the monster looks like when J.J. deliberately shows it to us.

That blurry picture and the drawing are a whole world of different. JJ's the master of misdirection, I wouldnt start speculating yet. I've watched the trailor a couple times and I still don't get it (hate teh shakey cam).

The thing in the 1:29 frame of the trailer looks a lot like the whale beast from the youtube video. I doubt they would also make a fake viral website. Some of it has to be true. Yea, there isn't much footage out there, but compare that blury shot to the video. Not smoke if you watch the trailer and know what you are looking for now you can clearly (used loosely) see that because the tanks are shooting at it the beast turns a sharp left and its claw smashes into the building and you can see the head. About 3 seconds of footage. DL the trailer from itunes and run it from 1:21-1:29 and look for that image. it's not smoke. It's also not a clear view. But, there is another shot from a helicopter and fire that you can see a black blob moving forward and "making" that fire some how. It's the whale beast gotta be!. It's so odd it will work.

EDIT: Also look at the little frills hanging down. You can also see the little slumping things that are in the sketch actually rising up as if they were horns. The head looks a little more "beast from 20,000 fathoms-ish" and the mixture of a humpback. You can see what looks like teeth and an open mouth. It also has a bit of a slump. It's not face full forward, but it is slightly cheated left because of the turn. Ya might not see it, but it's there. I'll give ya an unedited screenie of it and you can check it out.

It's "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" is the rumored one. Also some movie called or monster called chtulu or something. It's another guys beast. But the 20k fathoms story is viable. It's in that photo though; watch the trailer and you'll see it duck back after it gets shot at. Kinda resembles Gorgo in that screenie.

I'm not crazy; here is a guy who sees the same thing I do. He seems to think though that because of how it is shot we will probably end up not ever seeing the monster more than what is here. I on the other hand am thinking it's going to be a mixture of shots from Handheld to actual camera shots of the actors with the cameras. Think about the helicopter shot in the trailer... it's not hand held.

But here is the 3 seconds that are in slow mo.

for those who don't think it's the monster...it is...it's not smoke..but its certainly not enough to get excited over in my opinion. I'm excited about the potential of this movie...but other then that, i'll wait and see. It was supposedly made with a tiny ass budget...so who knows how much actual monster we get in the movie

I agree 100%. Wouldn't add or subtract. Even with the budget thing. If it's all hand held we might not get much at all. Loads of potential, I just hope the flick doesn't drop the ball.

BTW, Thanks for making me no longer feel like I was seeing stuff in the picture... I KNEW I SAW THE BEAST!:D

Ahh, so this Abrahms production finally has a name huh? Shoulda called it what it is, crap!!! Just like MI3, crap!!! He's not a good filmmaker. But can be a pretty creative writer.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't he that one guy who begged M Bay to help write Armageddon? Did a shit job, got yelled at, then came up with the opening shuttle explosion sequence a couple of days later? That was great, but he still sucks.

I know that's the head with the mouth opened, but if it's 100% the claw I dunno. Looks like (because of the tanks) that it is pulling back and behind a building to get away from the fire. Looking at that oil painting though, I am certain it's the head. The link you put ups helps a ton if you know what to look for first. So check out the thing I swear is the head and watch it in playback and BAM; you'll see it. I now that there is something like a hand that is knocking into the building as it runs away. I'm just freaking glad you and a few other senior members see it too.

@Agony PM me the answer, but is there any other place to go and post using our names. I have heard rumor of a secret forum. Any clue?

@Elemental: Dunno about crap. To have a film with a 30 million$ budget that will net 30 in the opening week (easily) sounds like great marketing to me. As for MI:3 I believe that J.J. directed and had nothing to do with scripting. It was green lit and Cruise pushed and pushed that he would only do the film if he could work with J.J.. MI:II was worse. There is a blatant stock sound snippet in the hotel room with Tom and the female in Mexico that you hear the good old fashion "Door Knob!, Door Knob?" as back ground clutter because they were too lazy to re-record their own background. I was shocked when I caught that in there. Almost didn't believe that some one would do something so obviously lazy in popro.

It will either kick major ass or suck though, this movie has no middle ground. Looks great, but there still isn't enough out there to guarantee someone to make a sure decision. The internet marketing campaign is great. I will respect this film a ton if the monster is never shown. Or is only shown at the end because the camera's owner dies and you get only a portion like a bad lochness monster photo, or TCM picture of leather face at the end.

^^^ I never said JJ wrote MI 3, he's a shitty director who hasn't really done crap but get jobs via nepitism. and just because he is making a movie and spending about 26+ million for effects doesn't make him a good director.

He's crap, so is his work.

That's fan art. It's posted in my other Cloverfield thread. There is even an action figure out (it's supposed to be the beast). I wish it was the franken whale, but I doubt it. I hope so... but dun think so.

J. J. Abrams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._J._Abrams) conceived of a new monster after he and his son visited a toy store in Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan). He explained, "We saw all these Godzilla (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla) toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Kong), King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense."

JJ has already said in interviews we will see the beast in full in the movie. Even by watching the trailer, that aint no small budget.

If it is a whale monster how can it make fire? I dont think its that at all. My votes still on mutated humanoid/alien.

The main beastie is HUGE!!!

And there's rumors of a parasite that branches off and infects people.

The main beastie is HUGE!!!

And there's rumors of a parasite that branches off and infects people.this one could be huge. and do you really think that lumbering beast they put up first would be able to move around in that city well? there is no way they wouldn't have a good video of that thing in the movie. even if this one is just a parasite then it has to at least resemble it's offspring. of course i haven't listened to much of the cloverfield crap so if you tell me the script or whatever youve seen says otherwise then i am with you

This mobster kinda, kinda, kinda reminds me of the monster from CLASH OF THE TITANS in little ways. Like the upper body, the hands and a little in the face just the mouth area though. I know I could be wrong I've only seen this movie once today 01/18 5:05pm.

This is got to be one of the dumbest movies out there. Its Blair Witch project meets Godzilla. Not even worth my time. I was curious from the previews during the Transformers movie as well, even went to a website where you had to figure out these puzzles to know more about the movie. Solved those puzzles in about 10 mins. Umm.. yeah.. not worth even renting.

Actually I myself did describe "Cloverfield" as "Godzilla meets Blair Witch", a comparison which is almost mandatory. It doesn't do the movie justice, however. Not the least bit.

"Cloverfield" is one of the most engaging movie experiences coming out of Hollywood in recent years. Although there are some minor flaws, as a whole this is as exciting as this kind of movie is likely to get. The introduction of the main protagonists is cleverly done and spot on, once the action gets going, the tension hardly let's up and some of the sequences are the stuff that nightmares are made of.

What I like best about the movie - and what certainly makes it hard to swallow for the mainstream-crowd - is that it seldomly concedes to common expectations. The monster is hardly shown (with the utterly unnecessary close-up at the end being an exception),

SPOILER

hardly anything is explained and even the ending is more or less open to interpretation.

SPOILER END

So, for those looking for an effects-heavy creature feature, this certainly is the wrong movie - although the effects DO put Emmerichs "Godzilla" to shame. Where his beast seemingly trampled through cardboard-cutouts (the helicopter chase sequence being a prime example), "Cloverfield" shows believable images of a New York that has been gutted.

Still not having seen "There will be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men", "Cloverfield" as of now sits alongside "Juno" at the top of my list for 2008.

Dude, Raven and I went on for like an hour after we saw that (he clued me in to that, so I stayed and listened.) It's something like...."I'm still alive." or something to that effect. I heard it twice because he was on the phone with me before my viewing, and after his, and it's definitely a clue to the sequel.

Most definitely.

I didn't read through the whole topic (I know... a whopping 3 whole pages! :)) so I don't know if this has been brought up before, but apparently at the end of the movie when they flash back to the ferris wheel scene, you can see something fall from the sky into the water in the background. I didn't notice it in the theatre, but when I get my hands on the DVD I'm gonna check it out, and listen for the whisper.

I did like the movie... but wasn't a fan of Blair Witch.

Still alive. Cool. Anyone else notice that their seems to be 2 monsters (not including the little parasites) in the movie? I only noticed the second time after watching it. There's the big one that attacks the city and the one that kills Hud, its way way smaller, and looks different. Maybe like, the baby one or something.

Naa, it's just one monster, probably just a scale error.

If that thing was a baby then the mamma would tower over the city.
