Tranformers: the original script

So...I just got the orginal Transformers script by John Rogers. It was the script that was written prior to Kurtzman/Orci jumping on board.

So far, I'm on page 36, ....in this script:


It's Sam Witwicky, not Spike (although he kinda changes his name briefly after impaling Soundwave.)

Sam's gal is named Trish.

BumbleBee is not a VW bug...he's referred to as a "little 2-door econo-car" named T.C. BTW, He speaks from his radio.

Carly accompanies Dr. Vry to Kazakhstan to retrieve the Enegon Cube inside, what I assume is the Ark. There is mention of the TRANS-Scan.

Ratchet is a firetruck that speaks like "a British field Medic from World War 2."

Optimus Prime is an 18-wheeler.

Soundwave is a tape deck and his minions transform from iPods to laptops, and Soundwave basically transforms to a fridge at one point.

Soundwave infiltrates base where T.C is being diagnosed and proceeds to fight with T.C. when he stands in his way of the Energon Cube.

I'm almost on page 50 of 110 and there is only one mention of Megatron--when Prime is telling everyone the story before they got here.


Megatron arrives on earth on page 62 with Starscream, Skywarp, and Devastator. Soundwave is on earth by the time they crashland at the military base.
In the industrial revolution, Ratchet was a caboose on the Pennsylvani RR. Jazz was a manure truck.

They "shape shift." Soundwave becomes a soda vending machine at one point.

Just finished reading. Overall, it's very G1 & but kiddie orientated.

Some stuff is outright silly and kiddie/cartoonish.


At the beginning of the thid act, the Autobots kind of whimper and realize they can't beat the FLYING DECEPTICONS (yes, a tank, a construction vehicle fly). So after a speech from Sam, the government brings in Xzibit (the Rapper) , the guys from Orange Country Chopper, Jesse James & crew, and Dale Earnhardt Jr., to fix and make the Autobots togher and faster for battle. which takes palce above the HOLLYWOOD sign and a TV station.

Jazz flys and fights with Starcream and Skywarp (he ends up killing Skywarp & Stascream). Starcream literally gets killed by a city Transformers that falls on him.

Megatron is a tank, and Devastator is a military construction vehicle. Devastator ends up getting killed by Ratchet who's gears destroy as Devastator bear-hugs him.

Megs is killed by Prime as Prime smashed the Energon Cube and jumps off a cliff.

And Soundwave is impaled by Sam.

No, they didn't want to show it to him thinking it might scare him away. IIRC, he hasn't seen it.

But in all honesty, I think the only thing you can find in this script that has anything remotely to do with the movie is the fact that Megatron wanted the Energon Cube to make more Decepticons.

I's funny though, it's kind of suggested in the script that the reason the Autobots escaped towards Earth was because at the time they crash-landed, Earth was the most undeveloped planet they could find. They kept an eye on humans all through out their development seeing when the humans created anything remotely close to a machine that the Decepticons could transform into one of their own.

T.C. (aka BumbleBee) was the only one who never lived in Cybertron. He was "sparked" inside the ARk as it made its way to Earth.

As for the script, I wouldn't of shown Bay either. That's terribly laughable. How did he get a story credit? It doesn't seem like much of his draft made it into Kurtzman/Orci's drafts.

Well that is indeed dangerously cheesey, but keep in mind that first drafts are always awful. You come up with all sorts of terrible ideas that seem "fresh" and on the pulse of mainstream cinema, and then it's just complete crap. We can always be thankful for the rewrite process.

Was soundwave, soundwave as we knew him in the 80's? Also, what all character and vehicle modes were there. I saw the mention of Thundercracker. How different is this script from the leak on the kiddy scale?

Just run it by Bay if you can hook us up w/ a copy. It's hard to ask questions about something you don't now much about.
