View Full Version : I understand Armageddon isn't the greatest film ever

But there are three scenes in it that send absolute chills down my spine.

1. The opening.

2. When Bruce says 'Get a hold of Truman, prepare the world for bad news' and then that montage starts.

3. The end when Bruce blows the asteroid sky high.

Again, not the greatest, but damn those scenes are 'awesome'.

I agree with the first 2. The other scene that had me excited was after the 2 shuttles slingshotted around the moon and then they see the global killer for the first time while pieces of the asteroid were slamming onto the side of the moon. That was intense.

Are you kidding? Armageddon was the best Michael Bay movie so far in my opinion!

Armageddon was epic. There were numerous scenes where I had chills, my adrenaline was pumping, hot flashes, you name it.

the 2 ships crashing onto the Asteroid scene is the single most nauseating, confusing, jarring scene i've sat through in any movie. Liv Tyler never needs to be cast in another movie again, most boring actress EVER.

The scenes were the drillers are being trained for outer space are a RIOT thou, love it.

Same. Armageddon's "president speech" montage is incredible. My favourite Bay scene of all time.

guess that means he'll have to step it up a notch with TF2:ROTF to take the top spot

Well, the arrival scene in TF1 was pretty close. I don't think TF2 will have an awesome scene like this (since they cant arrive a second time ;)), but we'll see.

At the end of 1 Prime calls out for the others to join them, meaning others will be arriving for a first time.

I still prefer the Presidents Speech in ID4 - the "we won't go quietly into the night". That was inspired piece of moviemaking.

I love Armageddon though.

I think it will be either the Autobots assembling with the new Autobots OR the Decepticons coming together (picture a combination of the Pearl Harbor Japanese Zeros launch + the assembling of the Decepticons in the first movie + Trevor Rabin's industrial sounding edgy score in Con Air during any scene with the convicts)

Why the "OR".....? i feel confidently it will be both, Lord know's he'll have the budget for both to happen. Hooray!

I would have to say these scenes are my favorite which I also think were vital in making this an amazing movie to watch.

1. Opening
2. New York meteor shower
3. Harry arriving at NASA
4. Harry accepting the mission
5. Finding the Oil Drillers and Astronaut training
6. Chick and ex-wife scene
7. Shuttle launch <---favorite
8. Shuttle Sling shot around the moon
9. All scenes on the asteroid
10. Harry saying good-bye
11. Asteroid Explosion
12. Shuttle Landing
13. Credits

Now, granted there are some dumb parts in Armageddon but the movie still rules.

1. Machine guns on the Armadillo
2. The Fact that the Space Shuttle Independence has such a nice smooth landing
3. Screams and fire in space

But Whatever. Armageddon is cinematic gold. It properly balances Action and Drama creating a spectacular ride from start to finish.

I only say Armageddon for the first time this year, I'd heard so many people dissin' it I was expecting it to be a complete mess.

But the only a few very small things that I considered slightly problematic in the entire movie.

and a lot of them are down to personal taste.

For example I found the Death of Bruce's character with the mutuel flashbacks a little forced,

Personally i'd have prefered an enthesis on his breathing then some extreme time compression - then the flash back perhaps just before or just after he presses the button - then uncompression of time and the huge bang.... the idea is a good one it's just the way it's shot for me make it not quite sit well as it might.

and the wedding over the titles is rather hard to make out what's going one i had to spin it through on slow play to pick stuff out.

Perhaps the way somethings are framed means you can't actually tell that they are in real NASA buildings sometimes it just looks like a set as the camera is so close the buildings are a little wasted.... I suspect that is an issue more for TV that is less an issue on the big screen.

Anyway those are quite minor things and that Blonde fella who's name i forget is a bit of a non-character but that's about it really.

Over all I can tolerate Liv's half asleep acting. she's certainly slightly more awake than Megan Fox's hot but vacant act whom i wonder if they have to intermitantly poke with a washer pole to see if she's still alive.

Anyway I got what Michael was trying to do with it - and I consider it a better structured movie than say the Island or Transformers in terms of most of it making sense and being paced better. It's a little easier to see what's going on as well...

This might not have been the intent but I almost consider it a quiet little character movie....

And there's only a couple of badly cast people in it. most of the cast is actually rather good.

So it's something i'll watch again.
Oh and a like the commentry by the other people. I hope we get another Transformers release with another commentary on it as Mr. Bay goes very quite in the only one we have at the moment. So another one would round it off nicely.

Speaking of extra's though there's a curious absense of Cast interviews or anything much from the actors in it. something more on the space suits might have been nice too.

Some sort of production diary type thing or set visit - i'd image that there's plenty more behind the scenes footage that's never been used.

The fun thing for anyone who likes this movie and Transformer (in general) is that Armade Jetfire makes a good stand in for the shuttles in the movie if you want something to fiddle with when your watching it :)

Anyway i liked it.

Yikes... opinions everywhere! (Reminder to self, no body lotion as must have gator tough skin.) I don't know about you guys, but do you have people in your lives telling you what kind of a job you did? Like: Nice paint job? Oh, look you missed a spot? G-d you suck at this, ever think of going back to school to learn how to be a dental assistant instead of painting cars?

Recently I received two critical opinions of my work, which start out to say nice things, and then one just went for the jugular and ripped it out, splattering blood everywhere. A cohort (and competitor) was shocked and disgusted at reading it (think it made them want to barf, I know it made me queasy). After careful digesting of the words I realized I had colored outside the lines and this fella just couldn't stand it, but he did say he thought it could be saved if his changes were implemented... I'm game, at least until the next person pulls out the long knives, and then I may just run and hide.

I'd say I hate critics in general, but I actually have one as a friend, but you know he thinks I'm a storm trooper anyway (my ass so looks better than that in a uniform, please). I know with friends like that... why wonder. Kind of like here, with fans like these… eek.

The only bad part of Armageddon is that shitty song that plays in the credits. Shawn Colvin is it? FFS! It ruins a great film. I simply edited it out of the anamorphic transfer I made.

Yea, the soundtrack is just one of the reasons i find Armag. hard to sit through anymore, *sigh* guess i'm just getting older. I did like Sweet Emotions being used, though that song will forever be tied to the opening creds of Dazed and Confused though.
