Wii. it is affordable and fun. also Nintendo is pretty much the only company I trust to make a sturdy system. That and it is affordable.

360 is dominating the industry right now. The 360 is such an awesome system, but I am getting a PS3 to go alongside it here soon. MGS4: Guns of the Patriots comes out in March :)

im going for PS3
cuse...(this is what I THINK)
-it came out almost, if not about 16 months after the 360, 360 ppl saying they have alota more games than the ps3, but wait for another year cuse ps3 got some big shit coming out.
-PS3 HAS BLUE RAY DISK YAAAAAAAY!!!-.-wondering why im saying this?:Dhehe.. sony is figuered out a way to use the blue ray dvd and the graphics card and some other shit to get better graphics, game engine, and some other major shit.
-sony doesnt just let any random game get assigned to the ps3, they have to be good, the game and graphics have to be good.
-XBOX doenst have much good games, i mean like they're actualy fun to play, but the best ones they have is like halo (which is over, thats the last good game it will have for a while), gears of war, lost planet and a few others, ps3 on the other hand is getting a shit load of ownage games over chirstmas, they have awsome games out rite now called heavenly sword(i played that game, its pure awsomeness, graphics are rocks, and all the atack shit and awsome), ressistance, socom 4, not their gonna take 1 of those 2 realy far, kik the 360's hard shiny ass.
-ps3 CAN HAVE UP TO 7 CNTROLLERS, XBOX CAN ONLY HAVE 4, id rather play with 6 friends than 3, alot more intense and fun.
-ps3 has has 8 cores, the more there is, better gameplay, and smoother running engine (1 is used for your security, and another 1 isnt used, *yet*)
-the 360 only has 3, they cant go too far with that. (so that means ps3's core is about twice as powerful)
-o yeah............... alota ppl say that microsoft is ripping off 360 fans with their charged internet. (yes i admit 360 online internet is better than sony's FREE internet, thats why you dont pay for it, but sony is constantly updating the ps3, they gonna get to the internet updates soon)
-ps3 doesnt overheat, 360 does
-ps3 has interal power supply, 360 has a huge external brickk power supply, very anoyying)
-ps3 is like a multimedia centre, you can surf the internet for free, download vids, pics, and more. although thats not what the gamers really want, but that shows how powrful sony can be.
-the ps3 can handle more games, due to the 7 cores
-ps3 has a controller know as the SIXAXIS Controller, this means on some games, when you move your controller left, your character moves left, but it doesnt have vibration (sony is currtenly working that)
-360's contoller is heavy, but more comfortable than the ps3, but it has no sixaxis, but vibration, sony's controller is lighter however.

thats all il say, now some of you mite not read all that, but idc, i typed all that stuff in like 8 mins, i can type stories and alot things fast.

PS3 HAS A GREAT FUTURE, ALOTA INCOMING AWSOME GAMES, IT CAN HANDLE MORE AND BETTER GAMES, MORE FUN, BUT THE 360............ SINCE HALO IS GONE, DOESNT HAVE MUCH A GREAT FUTURE.

o and by the way, virbration is bad for your brain,, scientificly proven, it destroys your brain cells cuse of all the shocks than goes through your body, and it always ends up going to your brain, as always (which makes you dumber)

so.. thats what I THINK about the ps3, i know you 360 fans will say it owns ps3, go ahead, i admit the 360 is better than ps3, but not for long.

*time, dam 9 mins and 17 seconds, almost beat my record*

these are the same silly debates that go on over at neogaf, ign boards, and the 1up boards.....they will all win...as long as they are all in business and continue to strive...they all win..nobody truly looses until they go out of business. as for who will come out with the most units sold...who cares...i just care about my video games, and getting quality ones.

Heres the story with the systems. for tit for tat here ya go:

XBoX 360: was in the maret a year longer so has a larger % of it
Wii Most popular one lower graphics about that of a Cube, but even though 50 bizillion were made there weren't enough for launch because of the price being so low. It offers a new expierence for gamers because of the way you play. Remember guitar hero? Theres a Drum Hero Comming out Imagine the workout with that on a wii!

And PS3: This is my favorite but its way to expensive. Best graphics processor, but game developers say its the hardest thing to develop a game for and still keep multi platform. And since cheaper is better PS3 has a ton of exclusive games but not as many multi platform games unless it was developed for PS2 and adapted (which defeats the purpose) Also the controlers don't sync with a new unit like the XBox, and you can change the batteries. There is no compartment. All of these problems will be fixed in a later version and expect a price drop at xmas.

In the long run PS3 will be the better gaming machine (excluding a PC of course), but for sheer fun go with a wii. If you like graphics and the cooles new toy PS3 pwns Xbox. But 360 does have a better online gaming system, and more stable "computer like features"... after all it is microsoft. I'll end up getting a PS3 first then a wii. But hope this helps

PS3 is too expensive and it's catalog is very weak.
A little more powerful hardware does not make a better game system. Games do. I don't think blue ray player will be an important factor.

Wii IMO sucks. I only consider it for casual gamers.

360's catalog is GREAT and it's games are visually amazing. It's lack of reliability could be a problem, but MS said it's fixed.

PD. PS3 doesn't overheat? Put it in a room along with a 360 and you will not need heaters next winter LOL

Well, I don't think, I know Wii will win or won already for that matter. Which doesn't mean it doesn't suck. Wii is the first and only console ever I have no interest in at ALL. It's just about pathetic mini games which are fun for some minutes and basically for "everybody" (obviously, since Nintendo aims for a broader market). Wii sucks so much I can't even describe it. Anyway, PS3 sucks too, at least so far... Some more months and it will probably have the same amount of good games as x360. i don't own any of them though. still have to decide if i'm gonna buy a x360 or the ps3 for GTA IV (the one and only game you ever need), probably x360 since its cheaper.

Well so far I have played Zelda and Super Paper Mario, and I hope to get Metroid Corruption and Mario Galaxy. I can tell you this, my experience with the Wii, so far, has been awesome. In fact, the only game that I played on the Wii that sucked was the Transformer game.

P.S. Sonic and the Secret Rings sucks too.

All three have their advantages and disadvantages. To me, the 360 is the best choice. It has a better catalog of games, it's affordable, their online isn't crap etc.. PS3 only has Blu-ray going for it at the moment.

I have my Wii. I love it, but I can live without it, which is why I'm selling it (that...and I need the cash.) The 360 I can't see myself without. Really, it's just personal preference.

I don't think that there even is a war in the sense that if one sells more than the other, than the other will be "wiped out" as in cease to exist or be sold on shelves.

But if you believe that the one who wins the war is the one who sells the most, then yeah, I guess you can call it a war. Not that it even is one.

I'm not gonna say wii won the war because there really is no war going on but it is the one that is selling the most out of them all.

And PS3 is selling the worst. And 360 is right in the middle.

But each one is good in their own right. Each has their pros and cons.

Are there that many people who only choose to stick to one console and is so loyal to them that they refuse to buy the competing brands? Well if so, they are missing out on some really cool games.

I got PS3 and 360 and gonna get a wii before Xmas :D

Not like this is Highlander where theoretically there can "only be one".

But with the recent ps3 price cuts, the 360 has absolutely nothing going for it. I can now get a blu ray player and game console for less than the equivalent 360 crappy frankenstein system made of lots of peripherals, ... well I know what I'd prefer.

I see you are sucked in by Sony's marketing campaign. Its okay, we can all cry for you together.:p

If you research the price cuts, its not what it looks like. Its more of a scam than an actual cut.

To say that the 360 has nothing going for it is wrong. It was made for games and online and its been toted as so. That is why there are options for you to do what you want with it; watch hd movies and so on.

BD was made by Sony and is backed by Sony owned companies or distributors. They forced the console buyers into BD to get them to back BD in the first place. Which in turn makes you buy their BD disc to play in their player. They go you by the balls.

In the long run I think this will be between Sony and Microsoft. Think about the future, 2008 and 2009. Wii is only selling a ton right now because it's dirt cheap compared to the other systems. And Nintendo still has sorry 3rd party support. Well unless you like to play games like Hanna Montana, Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots, and M&M's Kart Racing (?!?!). In the next few years, PS3 and 360 owners will be playing truly advanced games. While Wii owners await the next Zelda, Mario or Metriod game... Nintendo is and will always be for kids.

Nintendo is and will always be for kids.

That's a lame way to look at it. Nintendo is a company that continues to bring gaming to everyone. The Wii is the cheapest because Nintendo doesn't care if it is as good as the PS3 or the 360. It is the cheapest because they want to make it assessable to as many people as they can. sure their 3rd party games suck at times, but I can hardly see how that is Nintendo's fault. also Nintendo is a company about innovation. The light gun, the Gameboy, the DS, the Wii controller. all outside the box.

so in close, Nintendo is not for kids. Nintendos is for kids, adultls, hardcore gamers, casual gamers, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and anyone else that cares to play.

Wii would like to play.

My take:

Wii is niche. Plain and simple. It doesn't pretend to be something it is not. Nintendo realized that a long time ago. It knows who their customers are. It may also be seen as a testament that graphics aren't always what drives the entertainment factor.

If we're gonna talk the other two platforms: PS3, on paper, is the more powerful machine. However, the XBox has its foot on PS3's neck with regards to game titles and online capability. Had Sony had a better balance in the hardware/software dept, it may be up there with XBox in that regard. The comparisons are so uneven that it ultimately comes down to personal taste.

Call me old school, but video games got way out of hand for me once I got out of high school. I miss the days when the hardest choice you had to make was the system with or with out the light gun. (game & 2 controllers included :p )

...and that slapping $.25 on the Mortal Kombat 2 machine meant "next" or in my case, "somebody's bout to get schooled"....:D

The 360 got the jump on the PS3 by about a year. So it has a lot of catching up to do. But it has more going for it (particularly being an integrated unit, unlike the 360 where things are wacked on or external).

And the PS3 now makes a pretty decent Blu Ray player. Even if there are no games on it I'd be interested in until GTA4, Resident Evil 5, and Silent Hill 5...:)

Yea, and not a sign of Parasite Eve 3... I got screwed on that. Aya was a bad ass, and that game was scary for a 10th grader in the dark. I still get a bit freaked out in the opening cinematic of Parasite Eve 2. That dog critter in the snack stand is a beast!

It's 100% Nintendo's fault that their 3rd party games stink. They let every Tom, Dick, and Harry game developer make Wii and DS games. Just look at the some of the Wii games that have recently been released, and what their reviews are. Games that Sony and Microsoft would never let near their systems. There's a little thing called Quality that Nintendo seems to have forgotten. They even took the world QUALITY out of the Official Nintendo Seal that's on the front of every game box

It's very true, Nintendo took off the "Nintendo Seal of Quality" from 3rd party games. It's EXTREMLY easy to get a game on the Wii, they need to be more strict, and they aren't. at all.

If it is "so easy" to get a third party game on nintendo then why don't all the games that go to both playstation and xbox go to nintendo as well? as for the every tom dick and harry thing, can you blame a company for wanting to supply jobs?

also the quality seal wasn't meant to say a game was good. It was there to say that nintendo either manufactured or approved the cartridge itself. it had little to nothing to do with the software inside.

Looks to me that the Wii is more mainstream than the other 2 consoles. From your link: A niche market also known as a target market is a focused, targetable portion (subset) of a market sector.

I think it's more fad than mainstream. Once the dust settles those numbers will stabilize to some extent. As an analogy to those stats: The Wii is like the guy making money right out of college, whilst the Xbox and PS3 are the med students that will blow by the Wii's pay grade the moment they get out (read: when people are more comfortable with the tech).

Maybe I'm wrong and it's the other way around, but sticking solely to games seems pretty focused to me. The niche part of my comment was that I feel that Nintendo isn't pretending to compete with the other two as an across the board mutli-purpose machine. It's primary focus is games, not a balancing act between HD, Online, Media Storage, Music, etc. They (Nintendo) seem to be perfectly happy that their flagship games are initially meant for the kiddies.

Once people realize that the Wii is just a glorified Game Cube (don't hate me, Uraydo) and that theres only a finite number of ways you can move the remote in front of the TV during a party, the luster will soon be lost.

I would agree with you but the fact that the Wii has been selling out constantly for a year says otherwise, no console in history has done that, even the most hyped consoles (PS2 and 3) sold out for a period of 3 months (even less with the PS3) before things went back to just walking into your local electronic store and picking one up. Every backer of the Xbox360 and PS3 has been saying this about the Wii "it'll phase out, it's gimmick etc, etc" but time flys and it's already been a year, this thing isn't slowing down.

Ironically Tobi, I'm not a backer of any. (as I own none of the 3) The last console I bought was 7 years ago. My observations come as an outsider nowadays. Also, I don't know if there are stats for the rate of returns, but part of my skepticism comes from reviewers that got bored and returned the Wii after a while. Those seem more prevalent than anything based on quality.

It would also depend on how long one considers a fad lasts. I didnt call the Wii a fluke. (yet again, I may be eating my words one day)

Frankly, any console is fine for us developers. Every console has its drawback and advantage, so we see them as different tools for different purposes.
But on the other hand, it's true that too many consoles confuse consumers. Maybe those three companies should release the PlayBoxii. :D

Each has it's own perks. I'm a bit of a techy (Geek Squad when in L.A.). So here's the lines

PS3: Has best procesing power, Highly adaptable, made as a home entertainment piece
Sadly early versions the USB/wireless controlleers didn't automatically sync to another PS# so you would have to resynch when u got home from a friends house, and the battery couldn't be changed. This has been fixed

360: Obviously the thing it has going for it is internet gaming. The processor isnt up to snuff with PS3 and it came out a year early. It had no clue what sony was up too, but for that it gained a fair share of the market. Good console, but you can play PC games. No major adaptability the USB and multi tab ports aren't as great, but it does have more games, and being it is microsoft the support is great.

Wii: This is the lil tike of the bunch, BUT it is also the most fun. If you aren't a heavy gamer who wants all of your play to be based on fun and participation then this is the system the graphics are far sub par to the other consoles, but it's the most fun and the cheapest.

PS3 and Wii will win. I am going to buy a PS3 soon, then a wii. Since BD won the war PS3 will no longer drop it's price (I assume) and youll get a few things in one when it comes to this console. I put the money on sony. OH, check out the gaming expo at the mind control gaming that is coming out. Rumor is that sony is checking into it and applications. Remember the add for PS9 where your brain IS the game.. who knows?

I just wanna play Mario Galaxy =P.

Actually.. yeah I do remember the PS9 ad.. I thought that was awesome!!! lol.. I heard that the gaming consoles will still be dropping in price to $299 come this July for the standard 40GB system. It's nice to be able to watch movies, play games, and do other stuff with the PS3, but since I just bought mine.. I'm still a virgin at everything you can do with it. There are different themes you can get for the XMB screen (main screen before you even play a game), I chose to go with a Warhawk theme since thats one of the games I play. I was hoping there was a Transformers theme, but I can't seem to find one using the PS3 online store. I don't know how people design them or set them up otherwise I'd try doing that.. though it'd take me a while to figure it out. Still trying to figure out how to use the headset with it. Maybe I should find a forum with other players...

What about the whole bru-ha-ha about the PS3 being so hard to design a game for. Was that just talk, or people being lazy?Depends on budgets.

That falls under the budget too, Guyver dude. How much money you get to design it also falls under the time it takes to make it. A shorter time (smaller budget) makes it hard to design for considering its a new console.

I bought a PS3 not to long ago for blu-ray and games. I had a 360 but I couldn't stand wondering when it was going to break down and the Wii to me is just a gimick. I didn't like the Wii at all when I played it. I'm not into the motion sensing stuff.

i have only ever had to send my 360 back once for repair. havent had a red i since but the i do own 4 360 now and 1 ps3. i got the ps3 three more for the blu-ray movies than games.

I realy dont care if it takes them 2 or 3 years to make a game as long its good.like some of the new up comming game Haze, ffxiii when it gets here,mgs4 on ps3.

360 Rb6v2,gears of war2,army of two,alone in the dark,RE5 ect
I just hate it when thay release games 1 year after the first one comes out.It was a nice game but it could of been better GRAW2

i lost count of how many times they pushed back GTA 4.
I cant belive they have band Dark Sector here in oz.ill just have get it sent to me from the U.S

Yeah, I ultimately got a Wii. I never thought that of all 3, that the Wii would be the one I'd end up with first. (PS3 is on the horizon)

But I had to be honest with myself. My "hardcore" gaming days (if one considers fighting games and side scrollers as hardcore) are way behind me. Don't have the time I used to. I made the choice to get something that my wife could also get into. However, make no mistake, is still think this is the lightweight console of the 3. But its accessibilty to all of my peeps that aren't into video games was a key selling point at the end of the day.

Now that the dust is settling on this format scuffle though, I feel more comfortable/confident in getting the PS3 as the console upgrade.

I want a wii....and who says they're affordable?

It's about the same price as a 360 (from what I'm seeing at amazon.com anywhoos.)

And you don't get another player (blu ray, hd) with it.

But I've heard it's a whole lotta fun. My cousin got one for Christmas and loves it.

Depends on budgets.

budgets or not, its still the hardest system to designs for. There have been a LOT of games that were exclusive or leading on PS3 only to lead or be exclusive on 360. Also a lot of games coming out on both systems at the same time have been canceled on the PS3. Granted a bigger budget allow you more time to make the game, but its still hard to work with.

The console wars as far as actual "gaming" goes IS between the PS3 and the 360. Myself.. I'd say the PS3 rocks. I've tried the 360 and didn't care for it as much.. but then again I've always been biased towards the Playstation.. Wii is not dominating the industry. Yeah its a hard item to get a hold of and yeah a lot of people are buying it up. But theres only so much you can do with it. I've played a few of the games and they were fun kind of like singstar or rockband type games (bowling, baseball), but when it comes to regular games, PS3 beats it out by far.

Hey Devastator, on the PS3, while playing Warhawk, you can have it set up to fly using Motion Sensor. It's weird to play at first cuz you have to dip and turn the controller, but it works. I don't know if i prefer it.. but its there.

I've played on friend's xbox's and I don't know what the big deal is over Halo

I do like the ps3's six axis controller (motion sensor tech) It is quite responsive in games like the God Father, and Heavenly sword....It's pretty good in Lair....but that game is just about hd graffix....nothing overly exciting

I imagine we'll be flying the planes and Helicopters with this tech in Grand Theft Auto 4 :)

I guess to each its own. The stores around my area sell out of Wii's and PS3's at the same rate. (by rate I mean that they usually get in 4 Wii's, and 2 PS3's about every week to 2 weeks) Except the PS3's have been around alot longer so they've sold more. The Wii's are also at a cheaper price than the PS3's by far. So a lot of times people look at the price. The online capabilities enhance game play in my opinion. Sure fighting against a preprogrammed computer is fine and all.. but playing against a bunch of other people .. to me thats what gaming is all about.

For instance yeah I have the Transformers game.. and yeah its cool and all.. but you can only beat it so many times.. and once you beat it.. then what? You are left feeling kind of empty. Whereas online games like Warhawk.. wow.. thats all I can say.. wow.. talking to other teammates by headset.. fighting on the ground, by jeep, by tank, by rocket launcers.. or even by air.. wow.. I've heard of a lot of people rave about Call of Duty 4. I haven't picked it up yet.. but I can say that Warhawk is awesome. I've seen the other games like Lair and Heavenly Sword. But actual gamers look at those and think.. Wow.. cool graphics, hot chicks.. umm.. ok.. 6 hours.. I beat it.. now what?

I'm assuming you have the Wii since you are raving about it so much. I just know I've played it.. and yeah its fun for house parties or what not.. with a bunch of friends when your drunk.. other than that.. as far as actual GAMING goes.. I can't see it being all that good.

I took some time checking out the different systems before puchasing one. I played with other friends on their systems.. to get a feel for what I wanted.. The 360 didn't tickle me.. the Wii is fun but not something I'd play if I was home alone.. the PS3 just seemed to have everything I wanted to do. Thats how I came up with my decision of getting the PS3.

I traded CoD4 in. Got sick of it. After you get used to it online and level up its too easy and gets boring. Plus you cant choose which maps you want to play on. They copied it off of Halo and it sucks. Sure it puts you in a game faster but if I want to play the same fucking map all day I should have the option to do so. I don't want to try and join then quit over and over again.

I see it as if you love FPS war games and you play like Rambo then this is the best but if your like me and are a strategic team player pick up The Orange Box with Team Fortress 2. Or RSV2 when it hits on the 11th.

I only game with friends anyways. so the lack of online capability never bothers me. It's my guess that the Wii will be Nintendos breakthrough console into the online world. It comes with a built in wireless connection and a big part of the new Mario Kart game is going to be its online capabilities.

It's my opinion that systems like Playstation and Xbox, try too hard to make gaming and elitist activity. Too often, people us the word "gamer" as a title of status. A TITLE OF STATUS! what is up with that? Yes, Nintendo keeps it simple, but only because they can reach more people that way. The head of Nintendo America said something along the lines of, " yeah, our system isn't in HD, but there aren't that many people with HD TVs. why should we make a more expensive system if only a hand full of people can enjoy its full capabilities?"

Playstation and Xbox are in a war of who can be fancier, and it is the costumer who foots the bill. I will probably never own a PS3 or 360. not because I don't like them, but because the companies excluded me. I am not elite enough to own one. what kind of messed up shit is that?

In any case, if online is part of your definition of gaming, don't worry, Nintendo will get there. they are already getting there with the Wii and the DS. They may even master it with the Wii.

oh and by the way. I know more people that are more excited about the new smash bros. than they where about halo 3.

Yes.. I have no life.. lol.. Actually I work 3rd shift.. so my son actually calls me nocturnal.. I thought that was hillarious.. he's only 6.. but yeah.. I pretty much sleep during the day.. work at night.. sometimes go out with friends on the weekends, but otherwise stay home most of the time. I don't consider myself a GAMER cuz I'm not that much of a junkie. I usually play a game till I beat it.. then stop playin altogether for a while. I hadn't played my PS2 for about 6 months because I beat everything I owned. Then again, I only have 12 games. Transformers was my last pick up.. and that was easy to beat... granted it took me about 8 days to beat (1 hour a day, beating each mission making sure to get the 100% status), but... after I was done with it.. I was done.

This July the PS3 is supposed to drop to $299 for the standard 40 GB system. I'm just curious where you buy upgrades for it. Is it a special Playstation hard drive you have to get, or are you able to use any computer hard drive? Oh well I probably won't get that far anyways. Granted I don't have an HDTV either but I still hooked it up to my 26 inch wood encased floor tv, and I still have fun with it.

Not having read the posts leading up to this point - I'm perfectly happy with my 360, although the damn thing broke down on me twice already since launch (red ring of death...) I was thinking about getting the Wii on launch day, but couldn't get one - and in hindsight am glad I didn't. What a sorry piece of cr... Seriously, the controls are maddening. Almost never ever have I felt to be in total control of the action onscreen, wether it be shooters, racing games or any other title. And then there's the software line-up... "Zelda" and "Metroid" are titles I would certainly buy, but that's about it. Most titles are geared toward a family audience in the sense that luck oftentimes contributes as much as skill to the outcome of a game - something which simply isn't my piece of cake.

The PS3 on the other hand... I was perfectly happy with my PSone, skipped the PS2 for an Xbox and have done the same again in this console generation, although I am one of about five people who owns a PSP in Germany ;) That said, Blu-ray certainly is a big plus, now that the format war has been decided, as is the promise of a great software line-up, especially from first-party-developers. (I'm anxiously awaiting my "God of War" for PSP tomorrow...) But up to this point...there's nothing that would make me favor the PS3 over my 360. There's not a single platform-exclusive game that I really would rush out and buy ("Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" being the closest to a must-have), most of the titels that are also available on the 360 perform better on that plattform and "Halo 3" alone is reason enough for me to have to own a 360. That and "Gears of War".
The motion-sensitive control is an even bigger pain in the a... than the Wii's and I simply can't imagine giving up rumble effects for that. (OK, THAT problem has been solved) Xbox's online service is expensive but well worth the money (not counting the week-long-period around christmas when nothing seemed to work...), PlayStation Home on the other hand is an intersting concept... Could I be happy with a PS3? Certainly. But there's not enough in it for me to warrant buying a second current-generation console.

Oh, and by the way - just in case anyone cares: "Winkeladvokat" is also my Gamertag on Live.

Guess I'm just old school but I don't care about rumble or motion sensing. Weird, you'd think as much as I've played games when I was younger I'd miss rumble. lol

Uncharted is amazing, dude. If you ever get a PS3 its a must-have game. Story, characters, game play, graphics, and sound. All top notch. The jet ski part is the most awesome part in a game I have ever seen. Especially in 1080p.

"The jet ski part is the most awesome part in a game I have ever seen."

Actually, "Uncharted" would be the first game for me to buy on the PS3 (along with "Heavenly Sword" I guess), should I ever get one - which is highly unlikely, considering I own a Blu-ray-player already and hardly find time to play all of my Xbox-games properly. But just to stress your point: Does "I have ever seen" include "Call of Duty 4" and "Gears of War"?

By "cr..." I'll assume you mean inovative. and if you have played store models they probably hadn't set it up right. The only games I have ever played on the wii that pissed me off were Transformers and Need for Speed. other than that the controllers are freaking mind blowing. there is just so much you can do with the Wiimote and you don't need extra buttons.

Nope, sorry. I certainly see the innovation in it, but I still think the Wii caters mainly to non-gamers - with the incredibly poor graphics not even being the point. As bad as Zelda looks in light of todays standards, at its core it's a great game, one I would buy on Xbox Marketplace for sure. But the controls sacrifice complexity for ease of use, accuracy for novelty. The line-up is the weakest of any current console, which is not only my personal point of view, but reflected in the review scores of leading magazines in Germany. And I don't play on a store unit, but on a game reviewer's unit. I'm certainly not at odds with Nintendo. I still use my SNES from time to time, I own a DS and truly cherished my Gamecube, although software support was a disgrace with only very few titles worth buying. (These however, ranked amongst the best games ever, e.g. "Zelda" or "Resident Evil 4") The Wii however... All gimmick, little fun. For me that is - I know quite a few people who got into gaming because of the Wii, which maybe is the greatest accomplishment of any console in the last few years. It's not for me, though, I'm afraid.

you talk about the Wii being behind in graphics and then you say it's gimmicky? Graphics are gimmicks. seriously, what percentage of TV owners have HD TVs? the "poor graphics" as you call it, was a marketing choice. Why should Nintendo cater to the select few. To say the Wii is for Non-Gamers is down right insulting. The so called gimmick (controls) as you call it, is an innovation that is changing the way Wii owners look at games.

I do agree the lack of good titles is some what maddening, but I hardly see how that is a fault of Nintendo. Exspecially, when their in house titles are so great. (Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario.)

what do the PS3 and 360 have to offer? A big price tag for one. also they have some really cool looking games that even I want to play. but is there really much else. Graphics are great, but a shit game can have awesome graphics. I back the Wii as I do because Nintendo seems to actually want to best themselves in what they do. That's what I'm about. Growth. could you imagine how sad if it would be if we were playing games on HD TVs with a Joy stick and a button?

I can understand and even respect you not liking the Wii. It has its down sides. but I am freaking sick of hear things like, "the next gen war is between PS3 and 360," or "Wiis are for kids," or "the Wii caters to non-gamers"

No my friend, the Wii is as much of a next gen console as the PS3 and the 360. It just happens to be my favorite next gen console, cause it caters to THIS GAMER, and never have I played a more fun system.

P.S. I missed your full comment on the controller when I first read your post.

But the controls sacrifice complexity for ease of use, accuracy for novelty.

Like I said in my post before. for some games the controls can be frustrating at best, but that is a fault of the developer, not the system. For the better games for the system, the controls are so intuitive. if I was to play Halo on an xbox against myself but as Samus on a Wii; Samus would own face. I absolutely can't wait to play a First person shooter with my Zapper (gun controller attachment). I find it infinitely more fun to actually be able to aim with your hand rather than a thumb sized joy stick. furtermore in games like, Mario Galaxy, you not only get the fun of a platformer, but also you can point at stars to collect them, shoot things, and effect things around you with a cursor; all without missing a step. That, too me, is down right fluid game play.

Those have cool moments sure, but you have never seen/experienced anything like the jet ski part in a video game. Trust me. Its not extremely intense or a plot twist moment, nothing like that. Once you experience playing it and seeing it in full potential you just, its wow, almost magical. Imagine being a child and going to Disney the first time and riding your first river rapids ride. Ok... I have a PS2 so the PS3 is out in my mind because I DON'T want to spend more money, 360 has Halo (that really stands for itself there: AWESOME GAME!), and I've heard you get injuries with the Wii. So the verdict is *drumroll* the 360!!

And even in my mind that doesn't really make sense so I do say that all the platforms are amazing... just depends on what you want to play. haha.

Graphics.. Hmm.... lets see if I can help ya with this. Regardless of the fact I don't have an HDTV, Playing games with my Coleco Vision, my Atari, My original Nintendo, my Sega Genesis, or my Playstation or PS2, The graphics blow all of those systems away. It practically looks like you are actually in the game. The contures and textures are so smooth. Rarely ever any blocky shapes like in other gaming systems. I think what he was trying to say was the Wii was crap. I love the PS3, it feels like you are in the game. And yeah.. I now of people that have had the Wii that have gotten injuries. I knew a girl that would play the boxing game and would jump all over the place so much that she'd make the whole house shake. One time she actually punched the tv, and broke it, and cut her hand doing so.. She was a bit of a nut though. I dont' get along with her anymore, but thats beside the point. I don't see whats so "innovative" about the wii. It hasn't inspired me to get any of the games, or the system..

I'm thinking about getting Warhawk as well. I'll be getting RSV2 and Army of Two this month so if guys want to add me to your friends list go ahead. I have no friends on PSN at the moment because I have no online games. Just send me a request letting me know your from the site and I'll add you.

LOL.. I was just gonna ask what your PSN name was.. then I saw it right there.. Mine is the same as my screenname here..

Man I play socom Combined Assault and am tempted to buy this warhawk game.I love using vehicles!!Its like driving a remote control car on T.V.!!FUN...Makes me wanna sing ,"I'm a GOOFY GOOBER.....YEAH!!!"

Well.. theres Warhawks, tanks, and jeeps.. its fun, but I'm not that good..

I don't know about the drives. My little brother is my computer guru. He provided me with the firmware to play divx movies, and regular dvd's in the console.

Floor Model TV.......:D:D....Man you'll be so happy when you buy a new tv

I'm a 12 hr shift worker myself, and generally like to beat a game once I start it...........It's just all the other things life throws at me that gets in the way. Priorities come first. Winter time is usually my gaming season. Come spring/summer I'll be working on my truck...continuing reno's on the house, and enjoying campfires every night, and maybe a vacation or two...with a little gaming here and there

I hear ya there... Kind of the same with me.. the winter season sucks this year... and yeah.. I plan on getting a HDTV here someday.. just don't know when..

I think you'd be quite surprised at the number of gamers owning an HDTV, even if it's only of the 720p kind. But apart from that - although both PS3 and 360 need an HDTV to show their full potential, even on a standard TV the graphics are above and beyond anything the Wii could even dream of being capable of. And no, I do not think that graphics are gimmicks. Of course it was a conscious choice on Nintendo's part - and economically a wise one. While Microsoft and Sony have to subsidize the hardware to reach a sensible price point, Nintendo earns money with the Wii itself - like it did with the Gamecube. (Which in turn was one of the reasons why software support was so slow... Keep that in mind...)

I don't think the term "non-gamer" is insulting, at least I am not trying to be. For most gamers, who spend a minimum of an hour or so per day with their hobby, the Wii is not a choice that could replace other consoles (or the PC for that matter) This is something even Nintendo acknowledges - from the start the marketing was geared toward non-traditional gamers and toward positioning the Wii as a SECOND console. This has worked out fine: As I stated - and as is even more the case with DS - Nintendo has reached out to consumers who have never before been playing videogames. I'm actually stunned to see people of age 50 and over buying a videogame system for themselves. Again, this is a great accomplishment. Alas, not only the system, but the software caters to them.

Well, you do acknowledge a lack of great titles. Whose FAULT this is does hardly matter, does it? I don't care who to point a finger at, what I care about is a choice of games. And here I see a case of "Gamecube Reloaded" with the added ache that of the titles released, many are not only not great but utterly sup-par.

The price tag is something I simply don't care about. Wether I spend 250 or 400 Euros on the system is not a matter of concern to me, what with the games being 60 Euros on average. What matters is what I get for my money, and technically, both PS3 and 360 are way more capable than the Wii, which hasn't evolved much from the Cube. Actually, the asking price for 360 and PS3 is in the range of a single graphics card for PC, so even if more expensive than Wii, it's still a bargain. Especially if you take the PS3's Blu-ray capabilities into account.

The Wii certainly has taken video games in a fresh direction. And I can't stress this enough - it's great to see that it actually got people into gaming that otherwise wouldn't care. However, the controls are an innvation that has no lasting appeal for me, limits the level of control the player has over the games and actually is too much of a focus point when developing software. Concerning FPS - I'm convinced a gamepad provides much more accuracy (like a mouse and keyboard provide more accuracy than a pad), but we won't soon find out, will we? Cross-plattform-gaming? Now THAT would be an innovation I would celebrate :)

The Wii IS a next generation console, I never doubted that. It's not for me though, I'm afraid.

Nintendo has been doing this since the gameboy color. they intentionally hold back on technology so they can present an affordable product. Which is great. If the Wii was Hi Def I probably wouldn't have been able to afford it. I was barely able to afford it in the first place. Not all gamers can spend their money so carelessly. It's nice to know that Nintendo is looking out for these types of gamers.

as for graphics, I am quit amazed by what the 360 and PS3 can do. But then again, I think Mario galaxy is oh so pretty.

It all depends on what you want from gaming. I find the Wii more than adequately fulfills my need for gaming, and I have no desire to own a second system.

I think it is unfair to say that the downfalls of the Gamecube will effect the Wii. why don't you bring up the Virtual Boy, while your at it.

and yes, the Gamecube didn't have much to choose from, but personally i found it funner to play than it's competitors. I shop for hardware, then I worry about software. To me, Nintendo makes solid hardware. but I totally get doing it the other way around. Both ways of shopping have there advantages.

Wow... just Wow...The Wii is miles away form the Gamecube. I see more differences in in the two than I do between the competitors and there past incarnations. Granted there may be more differences that I have not seen.

However I do know about Nintendo, and the Wii is a COMPLETELY different system. It may look similar on the screen, but that is where the similarities end.

Why stress a point we basically agree on? Yes, the Wii is affordable, yes this is intentional and yes, this is great for people not wanting to dish out 50 to 150 $ more. (Assuming 250 $ for the Wii, 300 $ for an Xbox 360 and 400 $ for a PS3, correct me if I'm wrong, but that would mirror the price tags in Euros)

So, granted, if you simply can't afford any of the other platforms, the Wii is a sensible choice. But be kind enough to acknowledge the fact that I'm speaking as a consumer who has a choice as to which product he buys - and I for one think the technical advantages of 360 and PS3 far outweigh the larger price tag. Generally, I do not factor in price when trying to assess a products quality - as long as the price is within a reasonable range.

"as for graphics, I am quit amazed by what the 360 and PS3 can do. But then again, I think Mario galaxy is oh so pretty."

Now imagine how great it COULD look on another machine ;) No, seriously: Personally I lost my liking for Mario several years ago, and I'm not really into cartoony graphics - but from an artistic standpoint, the level of creativity that went into "Galaxy" is just amazing - and that goes for all aspects of the game. I'm not really a big fan of the game, but I fully understand why one would be.

"It all depends on what you want from gaming."

Now THAT I fully agree with.

"I think it is unfair to say that the downfalls of the Gamecube will effect the Wii. why don't you bring up the Virtual Boy, while your at it."

I think you misunderstood me here. I wouldn't call the Gamecubes end a "downfall", such a term is reserved for Dreamcast (which I own and still appreciate), the Jaguar, the Lynx (which I own as well and still don't get why I bought it in the first place...) or the 3DO. (Or the Virtual Boy for that matter, but this abomination never had a start to speak of). The Gamecube was a very succesful platform that suffered from shortage of software and an untimely end. Nothing that would rattle Nintendos credibility.

BUT the point I'm making is: Nintendo - unlike its competitors - earns money with the hardware itself. Not much, but they're not subsidizing it. The pressure to earn revenue from a steady stream of software (wether it be licensing fees or as a first-party-developer) is not nearly as heavy as for MS and Sony. Nintendo still made good money when the Gamecube - at the end of its run - hardly saw any new releases at all.

"Wow... just Wow...The Wii is miles away form the Gamecube."

Certainly, this depends on your definition of "miles" ;) but when you look at the specs, the differences are not that great. (Apart from the controls that is of course) Why do you think the Wii is 100% downwards compatible?

And why does "Zelda" look and sound identical on the Cube? Yes, because it was developed for the Cube. But if the technical leap is as big as you state, at least SOME audiovisual improvements should have been possible within the process... Ironically, only the Gamecube version lets the player freely adjust the camera, a fact that is due to the limitations of the Wii's control scheme.

Bottom line: As you said, which platform you choose, depends on what you want from gaming. For me, the Wii doesn't deliver. For you it does. I can't find anything wrong with that. We should all be thankful there is more than one succesful system out there in the market. Every manufacturer contributes something unique to our hobby, competition ensures we ain't seen nothing yet. As content as I am right now - I'm really looking forward to the NEXT generation of gaming. And I'm certainly open for any platform no matter the manufacturer. Well, not Atari maybe ;)

1. Okay we can put price aside. There are still many pluses to the system.

2. I don't see how you don't see the improvement in graphics. It may not be on par with the other 2 consoles but the improvement is there. I played all the way throw Twilight Princess, and I can assure you the improvement is there. It may have the same LOOK, but the sharpness is steps above what I have seen for the Zelda titles so far.

I didn't even notice the camera problem you spoke of. the c stick may be a thing of the past, but with the controls set up in the way they are, I can look any where I desire in an instant. this problem may have been a downside to the game but it could have easily been fixed with the pointing ability of the Wii-mote. Still, I didn't even notice the change.

The C stick may be gone, but shooting arrows has never been so much fun.

Is it really necessary to quote the whole post?

Aside from that, the Wii and Gamecube versions of Zelda are graphically identical, with the only difference being that the Wii version is horizontally mirrored (on the Wii Link is right-handed whereas he's a lefty on the Cube) and the Wii version offering 16:9 display, which slightly sharpens the graphics on a widescreen TV.

Just to remind you, I never claimed there was no improvement in the Wiis technical specs and subsequently visual capabilities. All I'm saying is that these improvements are extremely subtle.

But since you're hardly likely to agree - why not mention a point I think we both appreciate: The Virtual Console. Downloads may be way too expensive (as is the case with Live Marketplace), but the sheer variety of titles (at least in the US, as always, the German version is lacking in this respect...) is something I'd really like to see for 360...

ah, but there was an improvement. I haven't played Twilight Princess on the Gamecube, so I would know. But I have Played mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime three. Metroid didn't have much of a change visually, but the Mario title did.

The reason I'm challenging you on this stuff, is because every time you talk about the Wii, you make it sound like Nintendo short changed gamers. from my point of view, it seems Nintendo put a lot of thought into the Wii. The games I have played for it so far have really blown my mind (except Super Paper Mario). even the crappy crossbow training that comes with zapper, is fun to play. Like I said before, I can't wait to play a first person shooter that is compatible with the zapper.

I think Nintendo has really don't something new and exciting with their Wii console, and in no way short changed there customers.

I dunno.. I mean after all, you can chat with the PS3, which is nice because the same headset I use for my phone I use with my PS3 because of the bluetooth capabilities, that and the Blu Ray player makes it nice, that and being about to play other DVD's. Its just.. oh I dunno.. I think its a well rounded system all together.. so to say the Wii is the only next generation video game console.. well.. PS3 is a next generation up from PS2! As well as other systems that I'm not gonna get into. Now maybe the PS4, will be your computer, your flat screen tv, your game console, your blu ray player everything all in one.. That and maybe your cell phone if you fold it up just right (like "The All Spark") and then have other features like your own personal ATM.. lol.. btw.. Devastator.. I added ya to PS3 finally.. lol.. been too busy playing Warhawk.. wow.. I don't care what those other two are arguing about with platforms and markets and yadda yadda yadda.. thier gonna continue debating it into the ground.. I'll just sit here and laugh and play my games on my PS3 and smile.

@uraydo

Shortchanged their customers? What makes you think I said that? Nintendo delivered more or less exactly on what they promised. It's just that what they delivered doesn't cater to me.

@Devastator

I can't see any merit in limiting the term "video games console" the way you do. Video gaming has evolved beyond single-player jump 'n run. Community features are an integral part of the video gaming experience ever since the first Xbox. Multimedia features like Blu-ray-playback are a welcome bonus that do not in any way limit the gaming experience.

Because the Wii is strictly a video game console and thats what its meant for. The others do all kinds of things. Plus its the only one that has actually revolutionized gaming (how we play).

In the future we might look at what Sony and MS has and say "yea it plays games too." because both have advertised them as a center piece of your home theater entertainment. I'm just thinking, I'm bored. Who knows what the future holds besides Nintendo putting us in virtual reality. Then controlling our minds so that we only support Japan and Japan being the only country left and we all become Japanese...lol

Sumimaisen.. Doozo Goriyuzima... heh heh.. oh no.. they got me speaking their language now.. Must stop playing japanese inventions.. but.. I can't.. I like it too much!!! How is Wii virtual reality? PS3 (I dunno bout 360) has singstar, guitar hero, dance dance revolution, rock band, eye toy, motion sensing wireless controllers with bluetooth headsets.. and one of those games where you use the cards like pokemon, or whatever you call those games with the cards and the characters and the points and all.. like.. Dual Masters.. but yeah.. you place em on a board, and a camera picks it up and plays these wild like looking sweet battles on the television for ya.. From what I can tell Wii has a joystick motion sensing controller and thats it. I would think PS3 is more virtual reality like then Wii (Granted I don't have any idea what Wii has to offer anyways)

the Wii has a motion sensitive remote with a joy stick attachment.

gamecube buttons:
A
B
Y
X
L
R
Z
Start

also: D pad, thumb stick
and C stick

Wii buttons (with attachment):
A
B
+
-
Home
1
2
Z
C

also: D pad
and the thumb stick

also lets not forget that the remote is motion and position sensitive and the numchuck attachment is motion sensitive.

In metriod for example, you can aim and shoot with the remote and grapple things by swinging the numchuck attachment.

The ps3 uses motion sensing tech as well. I haven't tried a wii console, so I can't compare the two.

But since the wii's selling feature and primary design is the motion sensing tech, I'm gonna go ahead and say it's probably better tailered for gaming than the ps3

as far as I know, the PS3 can tell if it is leaning forward/backwards or to either side. the wii remote can do that, and point. also I think the Wii remote is more sensitive that the PS3 controller.

There are some games that require shaking the ps3 controller for certain moves. By shaking, I mean tilting it forward and back rapidly

The motion sensing tech in the ps3 does respond to angles as well. It's not limited to 4 axis, but 6

I had it for 360 and beat it all before but I just had to have TF2 again. It has to be my favorite online shooter. Still searching for Warhawk without the mic in store. I already own a bluetooth headset. I dont want to download it I want the hard copy.

As long as you have the right info, and have adequate soldering skills, there are no issues

The ps1's were easy...anyone could do it. Sony caught on quick, and produced several different board configurations, so you couldn't do the same mod on every system. You would need the right schematic (via model #) and then crack your knuckles, and go to work!

The ps2 proved to be a little more difficult to mod....tighter soldering points required a very skilled hand, or even a jig fixture to help place just the right amount of solder. Too much heat could change the resistance in the circuit, and screw up certain functions. Again, with the ps2, Sony launched several different configurations

The psp was all too easy.....upgraded technology is somewhat a downfall to sony, because the Hack is simply firmware, and the same goes with the ps3 so far....no splicing, or soldering at all.

I've no idea what the wii system modchip entails, but there's a lot of confidence afloat for it

I guess I didn't play a lot of games to need to get a mod chip... I heard about it.. but never got it nor really knew what the importance of it was.. I'm sure it had something to do with modifying games or cheats or what not.. Then again I had Gameshark if I wanted to do something like that. Even had a code to play as Sephiroth in the Final Fantasy 7 game.. It was kind of blotchy and sometimes froze up the game.. but it worked..
