I LIKE !!!!! Makes sense to develope more user friendly cars for specific job tasks.I think the suicide door in back makes sense.I worked corrections where a 'combatant perp' was being brought into the facility from a stop or bar fight or something where the 'perp' was in fact hostile.Getting someone in and out would have been easier.I've done court transports of inmates to and from court. They too would have been easier for those who have medical issues. The diesel engine is a great idea!!I hope to do the same with this car.I would like it to be oddly enough "environment friendly".Burn french fry grease.I have a kid that loves life and cares about earth. I'm with him on this.He is seven and grown-up in many ways.I need to learn from his example.Back to the car,it kinda looks like a chrysler 300 on steroids.Shorter and faster....and looks mean..almost..robotic..???Hes definately Decepticon...I called it first.Sorry autobots...with Megatron dead,Starscream gone getting help,I'm in charge.:D

ok for a start........
0-60 in 6.5 is not quick enough. They'd never catch me in one of those:D
.....My 6000lb truck does 0-60 in around 4.8 seconds...and the average speedsters on the market will do 0-60 in under 6 seconds.
.......now just to figure out how to outrun radio's and helicopters ;)

Not everyone on the road does sub 5 second runs. Besides I bet this car would handle better then your 6k lb truck anyday. Its also a much improved time over the current police cows running v8s where baseline Ford Focus's (us crappy version) could out run them.....
So its not super car territory. They buy Corvettes for those needs. Bottom line is its a humongoid improvement over what they have now. And it looks cool to boot. It would certainly help reputation on the street and respect manor. And it might even bring in more recruits to the force.

Really? outrun this?
325HP HEMI Charger
or this with the same 325HP..no..no focus is going to outrun these cars. And more and more departments are picking them up.
.
Not to mention the Impala SS's that some departments are picking up as unmarked cars with 303 HP.

I've yet to see either one of those cars on the road as a cop car. sure they exist but they are not common or mainstream.
Only Crown Vics, & Impalas. And only lately has the Impala's gotten ballsy. But again, the SS isn't a mainstream cop car. It is a start tho.

I live in a rural area...the township has two of them.

Yeah, the ratio of Crown Vic's/Impalas to Chargers/Magnums is (and this is hyperbole, not actual stats) like a 100:1. (just from what I see in my city) Plus, Dodge has just given Magnum it's walking papers so we won't be seeing those after a while.
Besides it's a start. Chases for the most part get stopped before they get to an unobstructed straightaway, unless you are dealing with Highway Patrol scenarios. Even still, the idea here would be to optimize fuel efficiency for the bulk of the fleet. You would still retain your gas powered high pursuit vehicles (which are in low numbers anyway) for the freeways.
But for the daily beat, suspect transport, and the ever-looming confrontation, this thing is a step in the right direction.

I dunno about saving gas. Cops sure spend a lot of time idling to keep warm......hell the cars are left running in the summer as well.
....Then there's the dukes of hazzard cops who wreck their vehicles out of ignorance. ...Stories you here from mechanics at the police station.
but yeah, the goal is to stop a high speed chase before it happens. They use various tactics to make this happen.........and I'm sure everyone here has seen at least one episode of dangerous police chases, so you know the end result.
Alas, the "Rad finder" (trailer hitch) :D

You telling me that there would be no decrease in fuel consumption per capita on a turbodiesel idling vs. one on gas?

No!.....but Diesel isn't that cheap anymore, and the savings isn't that much especially at idle, because the turbo isn't spooling......You see the turbo needs to spool to create the boost so the engine doesn't have to work as hard while driving. The fuel savings benefit at idle comes from the use of a smaller engine
The point I was trying to make..... since their cars idle more, ...They should have gone electric, or at least hybrid to set an example.

A little thing about the Charger police car..
going to put it in two places here since it relivant to two topics.
http://autos.aol.com/article/sedan/_a/dodge-charger-police-car-review/20080303144809990001
MPG's I thought this was pretty cool.
Chargers, however, are proving increasingly popular for local agencies perhaps in part because of the available 3.5L V6 that helps reduce fuel consumption. Even the 340-hp 5.7L HEMI V8 in our test unit beats the 4.6L V8 in the Ford Crown Vic on mileage thanks to its cylinder deactivating MDS system, which allows it to run on four cylinders under light loads. However, when you bury the right pedal, this thing moves. In the most recent MSP testing, the cop Charger got to 60 mph in 6.52 seconds, over 2 seconds faster than the Crown Vic at 8.63 seconds. Even the V6 Charger runs 0-60 in 8.9 seconds. You can read the full Michigan State Police test report with all the specs and test results right here.
and yea the Magnum is going away and I thought it was 325HP..its 340HP :D

They are becomming common in New York, NJ, PA, and the New England 6 states.
Alot of cities are picking them up over the CV's.
And Florida still has its LS1 Camaro's for those fast focus' that are running away from cops.
and speaking of Chevy. The Impala SS in both versions was a quick car. and now is faster than the CV and just a tad slower than the Charger.
Takes time my man to get things changed when the CV was such a popular police car.

....345 hp;)......and the crate 5.7 hemis make 360 hp....for 09 it's about 380 hp or more in the trucks....but we'll see how much for sure when it's released. Lookout Tundra :D
It's sad the magnum is gone. The interior in the R/T is/was better than the 300C

where i live we have one of those Chargers on the State troopers force, and we also have a brand new Mustang in the sheriffs department. I wouldn't want to see anyone trying to get ugly on our streets, plus this is just not the state to get stupid, not when there are six military bases surrounding us. Fot the most part our roads stay quiet.

Yeah, those pictures of the police car up there... My god so frag-aft! x3 The car looks slightly like this one guy's car in our neighborhood. >.>
We have two Bumblebee-ish looking cars in our neighborhood as well, one that resembles almost the real thing, with the exact car type. And the other one is a muscle car at the police station. I call it Captain Fanzone's car. xD

If there is ever a Cop Car that belongs in Transformers & RoboCop....
This will make being a cop look cool again. I'm sure there will be a rise in recruiting when these things hit the streets.
