Remember that they don't have any resale value (At least here in Lou they don't.) so by the best you can get so it will last. I was into the stuff a long time ago back when JBL was the best subs you could get. Dunno what it is now.

Quite true. That goes for here too. Agony, if your budget allows, spend the extra $$$ for subs with rubber surrounds. (less prone to punture, and greater cone excursion)

As for firsthand experience, for the past few years I've been running a pair of 12" JL Audio W 's. They take all of the daily amplified abuse I give them. Another brand of subs that I've had nothing but positive experiences with is Rockford Fosgate. Bro-in-law has a pair of 15" Fosgate Power T2's in his Tahoe that I've wired to suck the air out of your lungs.

ya at the moment...money is not really that big an option, which is nice for once...but i dont think i want to spend more then $800 on everything plus instillation.

so i need some help.....my knowledge of subs and amps and shit are pretty much non existent, but im learning as i buy all this shit. I have everything except the amp.

What I need is a 2 channel 1000 watt mono amp that pushes 500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms.

I was looking at a Rockford Fosgate at Best Buy, but it's $600 and Cruthfiled doesn't seem to carry amps that powerful. Does anybody know a good place I can get an amp this powerful for fairly cheap. I'd like to avoid spending $600 just on the amp if I can.

This is the Rockford I was looking at:

I need something that runs at those specs....as this is basically the minimum my subs will allow. Any help would be fucking awesome

The one you selected is a 1 channel amp. You would essentially have to wire your subs in a "series" wiring configuration. Unfortunately pricewise, you get what you pay for. They are generally priced the same across the board (depending on the wattage, obviously) at the major retailers. Unless you go and buy from your local (and potentially bootleg) flea mkt dealer. Personally you cant go wrong with Kicker, Fosgate, MTX, Alpine. (ones I've wired and have been pushed to their limts)

Let's start from the beginning:
1) Are you doing the install or a shop? (will determine what you need and don't need)
2) Are you sure you want/need 2 channel amp? (1 channel mono would do the trick)

I just got a 500 watt mono JL amp.....the shit was installed today...dropped way more money then I would have liked...but it's been worth it so far. I haggled $150 off the regular price....so I happy about that

Use some sound deadener material like Dynamat or whatever its called. My buddy used it on his trunk parts to keep it from rattling and opening. He still has it in there and its been like 3 years since he first put it in. Good stuff.

He also rednecked his license plate with a wash rag. LOL

What Dev said (dynamat, sound deadener). Also some spray-on rubberized undercoat from 3M will fill in some hard-to reach areas as well for added sound insulation.

is dynamat hard to install yourself....cause that shit is expensive enough, and i already spent a shit load on the system itself

To: Galvatron: Everybody knows Macgyver would use a paperclip. j/k :p

It's not hard Agony, just tedious. You'd have to remove the felt in the trunk area (and any corresponding clips or screws, possibly spare tire hardware, etc.). And dependind on the amount you buy, you can cut it in the shape of a panel (like the inside of the quarter panels or trunklid). You'd also need basic handtools and a heat gun (or at least a hairdryer), and finally gloves or roller (to smooth out the material on the already heated foiled side, kinda like pizza dough). Ultimately, it also depends on whether the shop bolted down your setup (in terms of more time for teardown and re-install).It all comes down to your patience level man, I love doing this stuff, but it may prove to be a pain for others.

And by foiled side I assume that you meant chewing gum wrapper ? :p
lol.

the box isnt bolted down.....but i had them bolt my amp to the back of my seat so when i pull the seat down, i can get to it easily....i also plan on getting another 500 watt mono amp, so i can have one for each sub...so i'm def gonna need my shit dynamatted then...i'll probably just have someone professionally do it...i have the patience and time....i just dont want to fuck something up, and have it be a waste of my time and money.

so i was told dynamatting it can either fix the problem or fuck it up even worse....dunno if i should just dynamat it to see or just go buy a new damn trunk lock

If thats your only problem; fuck it, buy a new lock. See what you can do with a rag first, lol.

Crutchfeld is heap, but got for a Fozgate for price and bang for your buck. Trust me! I had a job as a Geek Squad agent inbetween 2 films lol. that was oone hell of a trip.

For the record... anyone who works in retail is one brave s.o.b.. Especially doing computers where people refer to the tower as a "monitor", or a "modem".

Geeksquad helped me out with a serious computer problem a couple of months ago and they were out to my house within hours of when I called them. The guy over the phone needed a little more phone skills but the tech himself was awesome.

Best Buy rox I will and so will Agony... GET THE WARRANTIES! Best in the business! I don't work for them anymore but yea the Gee Squad, they put us through soooo many things before they hired a new "agent". The prices are a bit steep (considering that to those who know how to do it it is easy), but come to thin of it everyone cant afford a flat screen, but everyone does need a computer. So with that reasoning that's how they get what they do done.

Sry to hijac the thread bout gee swuad, but n e who yea they aren't full of it, and don't go to firedog... they don't now ish. 1 group of people handles everything from CPUs to Microwwaves... no specialists.
