Think "Ocean's Eleven". A lot of huge stars who made the movie just because they wanted to make it. It was not about money (if it was, the movie's budget would've been $200 million). Michael himself is one of the most expensive directors in the world, but I'm sure that he'll work on "Pain & Gain" for less money. I'm confident that the actors, no matter how huge they are, will do the same thing.

I really hope Andrew Bryniarski is cast in this. (He appeared as Cuba Gooding Jr.'s sparring opponent in Michael's PEARL HARBOR, and more famously as Leatherface in the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remakes.) The man is just an all-around cool cat, and has both the acting chops AND muscle to be one of the movie's body-builders.

Btw the muscle + actors topic. I think its better to choose a good actor than a bad actor with muscles. I dont know if you guys watch the Spartacus series. But there are some really normal looking actors cast in that series who got on these work out schedules etx and put on some really really realistic looking macho gladiator muscles. Pain & Gain was written by Pete Collins a crime reporter who has flown under the radar as to his spectacular work and talent.

Collins has been featured on 60 Minutes regarding another story he did and I believe that story is one of Mike Wallace's all time favorites.

As you read Pain & Gain Collins’ extraordinary writing skills makes the reader feel to be an eye-witness to what was transpiring. It's a chilling read and one you can't put down once you're past the first few sentences.

Collins has two other stories that are *at least* on the level ofPain & Gain and *possibly even better*.

PAIN & GAIN has been compared, in ironic and tongue-in-cheek ways, to Carl Hiaasen--on steroids.

That's because Daniel Lugo, Sun Gym manager, the genuinely charismatic leader of better-weightlifting-through-injectable-anabolic-steroids, got his Sun Gym job with "convict" as

his previous occupation. Lugo then "masterminded" a series of crimes in Miami now remembered as a book/film cocktail of In Cold Blood, The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight,

Pumping Iron--and, yes, FARGO and PULP FICTION.

Daniel Lugo played his everyday role on Miami's streets until the police closed the show. Now he stars on Florida's Death Row with his Sun Gym sidekick Adrian Doorbal.

Here's hoping The Rock gets the opportunity to portray this rich, fascinating, damaged character.

Thanks Nelson, guess Bay is going for a 150min running time. I do hope he doesn't cut much from part 1, there's so much materiel in there that suits his style of filming (cuts, camera angles, comedy) and which would look good up on the screen.

Yep! If I were a film maker, trying to win an Oscar would be the least of my goals. I'd rather create something that an audience would like to see. Not make material for old people to deeply analyze and observe in depth development of the story and characters.

PAIN & GAIN will be on the same intellectual/entertainment/artistic level as FARGO, PULP FICTION, and THE USUAL SUSPECTS. Weren't those flicks critically acclaimed?

It's a modern, glibly ironic, funny, muscular, existential, violent, sexy, scary, paranoid thriller.

It's end-of-the-century Miami.

He says that he was first offered the role eight years ago, and his key description is:
Stylistically what he’s gonna be able to do with this movie, take the spirit of what he’s been able to do in a lot of his action movies—stylistically even with Transformers and then just in terms of characters that you care about from the movie The Rock or Armageddon and you blend all that together and you put it in a smaller movie like this, it’s percolating into something I think that is just gonna be really interesting to a lot of people.

"...it was time to film Seven's scene. We had to remind Bay and the crew that she should have blood on her. We quickly painted her up with some fake blood that is safe to consume. This time when she ran through the bushes she was greeted by a crew and camera and hesitated briefly until she zeroed in on me and her steak. Bay was pleased."

I so wanna see that trailer.. :P why is there not a teaser..? Like one of the guys pulls the pin out of the weights from 10KG (from a women who used it before him and you see the pin go in at 150KG and your like "Wwoooowwww!!! That must be The Rock who's gonna pull all that!" and then.... You see the pin go out of the 150KG and lowering down all THE way to 50KG's and you would see this guy pulling the weights with a lot of errors and sweating and stuff hahaha lmao XD ;)

He has a point actually - it's a studio picture that'll be out in the spring so by now they should've released at least some official images. The fact that there's nothing about a Michael Bay movie with The Rock and Wahlberg goes to show that they'll keep it a low-profile project. Not a bad thing if you don't want too many trailers to spoil everything for you.

Sounds fun. Since it's a Miami-based film, the premiere to be held in NY was kinda unexpected, though. :)
